Very Slow Sales at Roadside Shop

there, almost one ad cycle has passed and my chili popcorn still not sold. meanwhile i have put up 5 planks and they all were sold almost instantaneously. shows that traffic is/might still there but people are not buying. maybe they're just picking out the cheapest. understandable but only AFTER the update? this i couldn't really comprehend. maybe there are just an abundant of stuff to replace the b&e. anyway i don't bother selling much these days with the exception of expansion materials. im just producing stuff for my own use and to help people with. i've now come to terms with it haha

Everyone plays the game differently and for different reasons. I play without friends and usually send my boats away. I nearly always have very quick sales from my shop, and spend ages trawling the newspaper for good stuff. Many of the LEM and building materials are in the shops, but often hidden among the common place items, so you have to be patient and be prepared to search.
I get frustrated when I shop at how many people sale in bulk (ie 10 of one item). Often I only need a few of an items for whatever reason - usually to tide me over while I'm producing the product myself, and have run out. I only sell small amounts of anything at a time, and usually good stuff that I know people are desperate for. It's usually all gone before I finish filling the stall. Soooo, if my stuff is being bought (silo expansion materials, cream, animal feeds, fish fillets, berries, etc) it must be reaching the paper. You just have to be quick!
I admit that hamburgers and roasted tomatoes are the new bacon and eggs, but I find there's more variety now.

My advice to those who can't shift stuff is try selling small amounts of some things if you don't already. Also, as has been recommended, if you're desperate to empty your storage, fill a strangers boat. There are lots of ways to play the game, you just have to adapt to the climate!:)

Tonight I filled my shop, and placed the ad on the cocoa beans. Eight slots had cocoa beans in them...random goodies in the others, some of which were rare items and others regularly seen items.

Nearly fifteen minutes passes...the cocoa beans with the ad on them got scooped up even though it was in the middle of all the beans being sold. Buyer left, and nothing else sold. Ten more minutes passed and the others got scooped up by another buyer. The first buyer was anon picture, the second had a real picture.

This has happened a few times to me...like the bot is still around plucking the ads out of the circulation or something.

i don't know what's going on, but something odd is happening.

Selling has now become a pain.

i understand what you mean. it does feel very strange (and creepy at that too) but could it be a coincidence? how many times has it happened so far, almost everytime? what about trying to place the item with the ad on at the last slot?

given the current situation i don't think its advisable to sell roasted tomatoes and other common items anymore unless you're willing to price them cheaply. there are just too many of these ads around that roasted tomatoes have became the new bacon & eggs!

That is happening to me to, when selling wheat only an anonymous buyer comes and picks up just the one in the add although i place it in a random slot in the middle. It has happened three times now, seems a little odd that it should be a coincidence. It is sad that the game has gotten so much slower to play. It is extremely boring now since buying and selling to me is the fun part and what makes me play for longer periods. Now I just pop in once or twice aday for twenty minutes or so to fish and fill up the few production buildings wich arent already full.

I would prefer the to have a more free market back, I can live with all the b&e rather than not being able to sell stuff and adds being slow...

Howdy y'all! I've only been playing a little over two weeks and have noticed the same thing - chili popcorn on sale ALL day to day and no movement. I price produce at lowest cost and price other stuff 10-20 below maximum - the fancy stuff is max price. I also sell in small quantities. My stand used to HOP with lots of turnover and I do advertise (at least I think I do - its frightens me that I say that .... Sheesh) I'm not really interested in little people or boats (already have Captain III thanks to the forum helpers) as I'm trying to save coin to buy the next machine. I actually found myself getting bored today waiting, waiting, waiting for action. I have tons of GC friends (but I've noticed many times lately that their stalls are empty - where's the love!?!?). Could it be the day of the week? Time of day? Fish impact? Does everyone live in Australia? Code algorithm fiasco? Random variables? Not enough new players to dilute the market and drive demand on the usual stuff? Whatever it is I need some action and maybe I'll use this for my PhD in economics case study dissertation :-) On that note I"m still holding out that Gerden at home office will say "shoot that code is supposed to have a PERIOD not a comma...." fix it and life is good again. But who knows ... Anyone want to buy some chili popcorn? :D

I've never really been able to sell chili popcorn particularly well. I think most folks put it in the queue at night, so it is usually plentiful. (Butter popcorn! Now that's a different matter entirely!). I think the new advertising system is causing more of the chili popcorn ads to show up, so even more competition. Back when it was all B&E, if you advertised anything at all different, it stood out, and brought buyers to your shop. Now, not so much so. May take the buyers (and sellers!) a while to work out the most efficient way of advertising and shopping again. Then with luck the sale speed will return to its previous levels.

After a major update like this, people change their buying habits for a while.
I have read all the posts on this thread, and I have an opinion on what is happening. But it is only my personal opinion as a player.
With the addition of the fishing boat, lower level players may be concentrating more on making money and collecting vouchers, instead of earning xp. As only jewelry and metal bar truck orders earn vouchers, players may be trashing the other orders, so arent buying items to fill them. A lot of people may have spent the money they were saving for another machine on the fishing boat, and now have to save again, and as we all know, truck and boat orders don't reward we'll with coins.
At the same time, there is a lot more items, such as chili popcorn in the DD, which makes it even easier to find, and less likely to be snapped up quickly.
After a while, things will probably even out again, and items such as chili popcorn, which are easy to find in the DD will be snapped up again.
