I have been trying to figure out the best way to take out this base. I have level 3 dragons and level 2 hogs. I either go all air or all hogs. Would like some input on the best way to take this guy out.

I would go all dragons with max loons in cc. 2 rage and 1 heal potion. easy 3 star.
Please describe how you'd time that to get your loons into the coreQuote:

I wouldn't bother with level 2 hogs. I am also at TH8 and mine are currently L3 - they still suck. They start becoming really useful at L4.

And cuts look fairly important here, as defenses are just lined up, which likely means that if your cuts are poor, the loons will take a stroll around the base instead of heading to the core.

Well I haven't faced any L5 clans yet, so I haven't encountered max wizards. But on that subject, it's rare for dragons to be clumped up in one spot so that they take massive splash damage from wizards. It is also unusual for a cc to be out in the open like that (and not centralized).Quote:

I'll amend my statement about CC troops to say that the units themselves won't kill your dragons, but they can easily distract your dragons from focusing on other things that can wipe them out in a few seconds.
Apart from 1 cannon and 2 wizard towers, the rest of my defenses are max for TH8 so I am facing a lot of max TH8s in wars. The few times I tried using L3 hogs, they did not fare well against those bases... My fellow clan member with L4 hogs is doing a lot better against the same bases.Quote:

I would only bring hogs (4 plus 5) with dragons (9) if there was an AD that could be easily taken out by the hogs. In general, unless you have a specific purpose, a mix of ground + air troops is a bad idea because you are now exposed to every single trap on the map.Quote:

Further, hogs not only are a hell of a lot faster, but, especially in conjunction with a heal spell, hogs will often do far, FAR more damage to a base than loons will. I can't tell you how many times I cleared a base because the hogs went above and beyond the call of duty (i.e. my primary goal was to just clear the ADs, but they not only got the ADs, they cleared a boatload of other defenses as well).
And you can get really creative with it as well. I can show some videos of us clearing bases using this technique that are pretty insane.

As I said before, in my mind, Dragon Snipe (with hogs) is one of the most powerful attacks you can execute at TH8 (base calling for it, of course). You can do this up to and including max TH8, it's that strong.
If you're not trying this (on bases that call for it), you're making a significant mistake. Then again, I guess I shouldn't say this; I would NOT want other clans attacking us with this strategy on certain bases... :)
Of course an AD6 does more DPS than a L5 heal. That doesn't justify not using a heal spell though. An L5 heal reduces an AD6 effectiveness to that of less than an AD3. For an L3 drag, that's definitely significant.Quote:
