We need to be able yo upgrade troops faster so scientists will "research" more troops at once. You can only get 4 all together but you can have 2 at th7, 3 at th8, and 4 at th9. They obviously cost gems to get. Or stars as @coc.world (on instagram) said so they are easier to get.
