Planning to upgrade my Alt. account to TH10 in the next couple of weeks and I will definitely be doing the 9.5 route. I will do my spell factory, lab, cc, and new skeleton trap first (only 4 builders on this account). I plan to upgrade all the camps, my hounds, and my freeze to max, then I will think about adding the infernos and 3rd xbow.

To me it only makes sense to get your offence up to par before adding to your defensive weight. As I like to tell my clanmates, you should always be able to 3 star your own base (or 2 star for TH10), if you can't you need to get your offense caught up to your defense or else you will be a liability in war.

Thanks Jiggy, Im upgrading to th10 shortly and I will be upgrading spell factory, lab, cc, camps along with golem and wiz first. Oh and freeze, lol.

The X.5 concept is a big mistake, you upgrade your TH to make the 9.5 concept and in CW excellent but you get the loot penalty while you are 9.5 and every TH 9-8 can get more loot form you as you dont build new defense.
IMO CW isnt so important to penalize yourself that way.

But how much would that 8.5/9.5 clan stay? After 2 month when the player go maxed troop for a certain strategy he will start upgrading defenses. So a clan of such type will be so for only 2/3 month

Many clans are applying the concept. I'm applying this concept lately in my clan. But still number of people applying it compared to others is small. The effect should appear in a month when more members join the concept

Its all conjecture based on a theory that offensive upgrades are not weighted as heavily as defensive upgrades. As no one is able to prove the offensive weights this is dubious at best.

What you are doing by going 9.5 is basically giving yourself an easier mirror opponent. Because your position on the war map is only influenced by by defensive strength, as you don't upgrade your defenses your position on the war map stays static but your offensive capabilities increases.

All those offensive upgrades, camps, troops, spells, etc WILL add weight to your clans match and give your clan tougher opponents, but you will sit lower in the war list getting an easier match on a personal level. I think its a cowardly tactic when taken to the extreme.

It is sensible to prioritise lab, spell factory & camps but to take it to extremes will inhibit your progress in the game.

As a max TH9 I was always matched with TH10 opponents and generally had no issues 2 starring them so I dont see how going 9.5 will prevent you being matched with TH10's.

Is it even possible to have a th9.5???

I'm not sure whole clans use it. As someone else commented they would probably have upgraded further anyway quite quickly. Most people use the x.5 as a transitional stage. It seems to work, but it is of course hard to be sure of the effect of a few accounts in a large clan.

A couple of reasons why 8.5 might be advantageous, even if the warmatching does use a realistic scoring (not so sure about 9.5)
- you get 2 attacks but can only be destroyed once. So a good attacker with overpowered troops can gain 2 triples but only concede one. If this was extended to the whole clan you would run out of targets; but assuming your clan can't usually 3* all targets, you probably gain 1 triple on your enemy

- at a new TH defences can be added to the war map much faster than offence. As a new TH9 in a week or two you can add the new guns to near TH8 spec and start building xbows (active in war); by this time you'll have spells, lab (but no research) and some camps done. If you look at the defence scores, those guns now rank you about as close defensively to a full-max (30/30 hero and full lavas) TH9 as to a max TH8. So it seems to me this typical progression is actually quite unbalanced - about half the defensive firepower has been added, with minimal offensive gain yet. So I would argue that the 8.5 route is not necessarily unbalanced - the typical route of slapping down xbows right away at TH9 is actually unbalanced between defence and offence.

PS - and taking it to extreme, I don't upgrade my old account at all; it is now static as roughly TH8-max defence, but with TH10 lavaloon. It's hard to believe this isn't advantageous however the matching works - it's usually an easy 3* on high TH9 bases. And whatever people have said about giving away easy stars, the enemy usually struggles to 3* it. Enemy TH8 can't; and usually lower TH9 get 2*. And in event of the war looking like a mismatch - I can deploy an emergency inferno to balance things up somewhat

Even if you are matched with TH10s, they will be early or preemie TH10s. I think people should do 9.5, but NOT MAX TH9 defenses. If you are maxing TH9 defense and offense, then you will push yourself into the TH10 weight to easily as a 9.5.

Now If you are doing what I am doing, going to TH10, but all my mortars, cannons and most ATs are still level 10(TH8 level), then when I get to TH10 and upgrade camps, SF and lab, I will still be less war weight then if I was a Max TH9. BUT, now I will have 240 troops space, 5 spells(plus freeze), 5 more CC space and TH10 level troops. So if I do all those upgrades and it puts me at or near TH9 max, i'm WAY WAY ahead of the game. I will probably get paired with an upper TH9 or crummy TH10, a little better bases then I face now, but with TH10 offense. Or I could max my defenses, still get 1-2 starred in war, but face much much tougher opponents. Hmm....

Those defenses I never upgraded would have done little for me. I have been one starred only in the last 6 wars. I'm the number #1 spot. The last 2 star against me, was a TH10, who got a cheap 54%(love my base!). So i'm not worried about my base getting 3 starred, because I will be facing the same or similar opponents that I do now. I have 22/20 heroes, max troops(minus valks) and lego/lava walls, so i'm ok on that end.

Eventually, i'm sure I will start to upgrade my defenses, but I will probably have 40/40 heroes and max troops by then lol. I'll use any gold for walls or give it to the poor.

The only negative will be on the raiding side of the game. I will offer more loot and nexting costs more(but I won't care about gold). I am in M2 right now and only attack th9s and 10s, so I really don't care about losing th8s. I will be in no rush to upgrade anything after my camps/lab/sf are done.

If I didn't care about war, then of course I would max out TH10 right away, the weight of your defenses is only a plus and doesn't effect the bases you raid. In war TH10s just too messed up balance wise with offense/defense in my book. I don't want to scrape two stars every war and be happy.

We had our last TH10, who played non stop at TH9, quit the game when he went to TH10. He was stupid and built the 3rd xbow and both infernos and the other defenses, on top of his completely maxed TH9. He didn't even have TH10 troops yet and was facing decent TH10s right off the bat. He got a few zero stars and you could tell he just got too frustrated. He then leveled up his infernos to two and 3 and that was it, he hated war and, yeah his base didn't get raided, but it didn't get raided before, so he had no real gain from the new defenses, just harder war opponents. I'm not gonna go through the same thing.

Mayhaps not whole clan but we certainly advocate the 9.5 approach to all of our new th9s that are upgrading and most of us are doing so or plan to. Believe a few of our soon to be th 8s are planning this sort of idea as well.
