This is something that comes up a lot, mostly relating to loss of Dark Elixir. Dark Elixir was introduced to the game after lightning existed, and has created a massive problem since.
It's far too easy for TH7 & TH8 players to prey on TH9 & TH10s with lightning. All their hard earned dark elixir goes down the drain despite the best defence to cheap raids.
I try to get most of my dark elixir by proper raiding, but can't help but to do the odd lightning drop - it's far too rewarding not too. I know it's poor form, but the game allows it and I'd be stupid to ignore it.
I think storages must have a % of lightning immunity per level.

Lv 6 - 50%
To a lessor extent this should also apply to Gold & Elixir Storage

Lv 6 - 26%
Lv 7 - 32%
Lv 8 - 38%
Lv 9 - 44%

It would give more value to upgrading the storage for protection, while it won't eliminate lightning bolting - it would make it less appealing.
While every other building is affected as much as they ever were to lightning, so the mortar removal for example is still well and truly part of the game.
Something has to be done about it eventually, it's a massive cause of frustrating to higher level players.
