Hi. I've read multiple posts of people complaining the derby not being fair for multiple reasons. One that most got my attention (I don't know about others) is the fact that most neighborhoods competing gets advantage mostly due to their time zone and that while for others is sleeping hours by the time derby start for them is for example daytime or afternoon. Giving them advantage because they begin with their tasks. Anyone agree on this one?
I don't think it would work. A lot of neighbourhoods have members from different time zones. That is part of the fun.
and a NH that starts early has a disadvantage at the other end.
I do not understand the premise of the argument. How is a different time zone any benefit here? If the Derby starts for you at 0800, then it also ends at 0800. Maybe you get a bit of an early start because people elsewhere are sleeping when this happens, but then those somebodies may be awake when it ends, while you are still sleeping (or getting ready for work, or whatever).
Everyone gets the same number of hours. Even if the Derby starts for you at, say, 2000, I fail to see the advantage.
And, as mentioned, a NH is rarely comprised of only a single time zone.
I think you'd be unlucky to meet a competitor who beats you based purely on their time zone. The only way I can think of is that they beat you by adding in their is 6th task/s at the last minute therefore lulling you into a false idea that you had already won and no time to pick up an extra task yourself, but as everybody has the option to do 6 tasks and as everyone has the same array of tasks available to them, there is no reason why you can't try to complete six tasks at pretty much maximum points -- the actual time of completion makes no difference. And it is not who gets there first that matters either, it is whichever horse has the most points by the end that wins.
I really don't believe time zones add any real advantage. Perhaps they allow some people to make decisions more easily (deciding whether to do a last minute sixth task or not) but really that is not a proper advantage.
Besides, neighbourhoods can be international and span many time zones, so a match up would not be relevant.
Probably somebody does, but I do not. Sure, I'm asleep when the derby starts. But the people who were playing at evening prime-time when the derby started are now sleep while I am playing.Quote:

And time-zones are misleading anyhow: several of my neighbors are night owls: some of the neighbors I encounter most often are 8 timezones away. Some that I encounter least often are 2 timezones away.
Note that it would be different if it were a race.
This would never work because many neighborhoods, mine included, have players from all different time zones. I am asleep when the derby starts but when I finally do get on, many of the players who are different times zones have already trashed tasks that are low and are working on tasks.
What at time zone should we go by? The leaders? Then that would really stink for at least 1/3 of my neighborhood. Besides, I think it would be an unreasonable part of the programming to obtain. :thumbsdown:
Same answer from me I am afraid. We have people on 24 hours a day. North America, Europe, Asia. Time zones all over the place. Neither an advantage nor a disadvantage. Impossible to match us up with anyone. Is the OP hood really from one time zone. How did they manage that? Real life friends?
A no from me as well, I can see no advantage or disadvantage to it. Our NH has people from four very different time zones, so how would we determine which time zone to use?
^^ This lol. I have chronic insomnia and am awake VERY early in the morning for my time zone and also go to bed MUCH earlier than most normal people in my time zone.Quote:

And some people work shifts or only need a small amount of sleep or have babies or teenagers and are up all hours of the night so it matters little what time zone they are in.
OnlyOnly 3 in our hood,all family so same time zone but all work different times,and all go to bed / wake up differently,I sleep much less than other half who also plays, and work and ply different times than da

There is plenty of time to do all tasks. It not so much of a time thing, it's a deadline. IF we had unlimited tasks and someone could do tasks while YOU were asleep, I could MAYBE see an argument. But we have a limited amount of tasks and it's the same across the board. Just because when you wake up your down 1000 pts means nothing. Our hood a couple weeks ago was way behind in like 12th place early, and came back and pulled it out.
I can see this being an issue. I don't think the derby being in different time zones would work but each week the derby could alternate the start and thus the end time.
I think there is an advantage for people who are normally awake when the derby ends to pick up one last task to get to third or first or whatever. If the derby start time alternates, this advantage is leveled out over time.
It's like bidding on an online auction. That last second bid for it ends usually wins the prize
Was just a thought only. I understand theres diferent point of views as there surely is in other topics as well. What might work for some might not for others as well. Just wanted to point this out since It was something that caught my attention. No issues whatsoever. Thx for your feedback anyway.
I don't think it is an issue -- not really. It just looks like one on paper but in actual events a player who does six tasks, at 320 each, wins over a player who doesn't, whatever time those scores are added. And if both players do six 320point tasks, then it matters how that tie is broken -- and if that tie is decided by who submitted their score first (and for all we know, it could be decided on a random basis) then one could argue that time zone played a part except that both players had the option of speeding up things using diamonds, and both players ran the risk of getting one or more boat that had to be skipped or took forever to fill...in other words, time zones are probably the least of the problem and very unlikely in normal circumstances to have caused a win or loss.Quote:

1. There is a maximum bid (score). To win, as stated above, all you have to do is reach maximum bid/ score. You can usually win without it. No one can outbid you, though, if you have put in your highest score possible, whatever that may be. You can't be at a disadvantage because of a late bid if you had no more to offer.
2. The "advantage" to being awake as the derby ends is that you can delay the decision of whether you need to spend ten diamonds on an extra task or not, and you may feel better informed with only two hours to go than you were eight hours previously. But then again, you could be guessing incorrectly -- even with 20 minutes to go you dont know what your competitor has held back or if they are insomniacs :D. So you might as well make that call with eight hours to go.
This is not a "win" advantage, this is a "diamond spend" advantage.
3. The only other possible "advantage" is a psychological one. Start scoring early, get a good lead, make your opponents feel resigned to losing and settle for lower point tasks, meanwhile you take the big points, and win. Start scoring later on during the week and let your opponents think there is little competition, so they relax and take some lower point tasks, meanwhile you take only big points, and win! Hold on, there is no time zone advantage there because both strategies can work.
