In your next 4 wars, see if the other clan is interested in voluntarily following your 50% rule. If 2 of 4 agree, then maybe you've got something.

Personally, I don't think the data will support this as a much-needed improvement. If anything, the small minority who choose this "option" will find the matching pool so small that they will always find themselves in lopsided wars - which is a case of the cure being worse than the disease.

How about "Sorry General - Our dragon numbers have been decimated because you keep using them"

Clearly tho, you are at least somewhat educated and clever. Why not just spend a few moments to consider what I have proposed, and written in response to the concerns others have raised? Don't just object because it's an objection to the bright tactic you've come to rely on.
My option will only make you create new attack strategies, and new base designs. - Why is that a bad thing?
Why rely on the same tactic with minor variations War after war... when you could actually be coming up with a unique solution to each base? Imagine that 1 star is a PASS, 2 stars is GREAT,and 3 stars is actually an UNCOMMON event. If it's the same on both sides... where's the issue?

Although dragons are extremely effective, they can easily be stopped at TH8. Only at TH7, are they are a brainless attack.
Only level 1 dragons should be nerfed, level 2 & 3 are fine.
If you're a TH8, then you simply need to make an effective anti-dragon base.

If you are late TH8 and you've upgraded all of your air defenses and your base is being 3 stared by those 4 steps, then whoa there, it's not a game design flaw, it's your base design flaw. You don't need to be TH9 to defend against an all dragon attack like you're describing. All you need is three air D level 6 or maybe even level 5 and a good base design.

Here are some suggestions. Dragons will follow a pretty specific path, always to the closest building. They will abandon this to chase cc troops but other than that it's pretty predictable. Design your base so they path AROUND your air defenses and your air d will mow them down while they are happily chewing away on other useless structures. Another idea is to form a 'wall' in front of your air defenses with high hit point structures such as your gold, elixir, de storages, your cc, and your king.

I have a TH8 mini that I rarely play any longer. Basically he gets inserted if we need an extra base so we don't need to drop 4 people. It's not very well upgraded so generally sits near the bottom of the TH8 bases so it gets attacked by dragons quite often. It's not uncommon to see 4-5 1 star dragon attacks per war before the opponents figure it out or just give up. Your 4 steps will lead to 1 star every time.

My base does well enough vs. a dragon assault. My clan is a mixed bag of adults and kids th7-10. For us it is a game.. 2 wars a week - fun (but with varying levels of dedication it's a longer haul to get thru that window u write of). Absolutely there are base designs which fare better against dragons & I might be making some more improvements to mine based on your info.

I play a fair amount (outside of job, family, sports, life), but certainly no where near 100% efficiency. But enough to form an educated opinion.
I guess what my suggestion is designed to encourage is variety. The use of different tactics and troops. There are a handful of very effective strategies for varying th levels.. And it's my feeling that it lends itself to becoming repetitive. When I've attacked bases using this self-imposed restriction - it often takes me a long time to figure out my ideal sequence of troop & spell placement .. (hmm gonna need at least 2 more hogs there - what can I cut?..). And benefiting from another members failed attempt - lots of good info to solve the 3-star puzzle.
This troop restriction would add an additional layer of variety based solely on limits. I think that you would see a lot more wars where 1 and 2 star attacks were the norm.. I think that in itself will drive a significant change in your attacks. And really, in a state of steady war - you'd run out of dragons, or hogs if you used them in battle after battle.

Do me a favor and consider the positive ramifications of this change. In your next war - look at who & how you would attack if you were under the 50% limitations. Considering that your thought process of "must get 6 stars, but 5 is ok" changing to 4 stars is a good haul.

Does making changes to war troops (even when optional) make them P***** go away?

No, the only thing that happens is that its harder to find an opponent.

Thats why I changed my base to a dragon killer.

No more air attacks, let them try with ground troops

It takes from your pool - this would be true, but it also opens up the opportunity for your clan to actually try something different - knowing that your opponent is also subject to the same troop rules.

The way the algorithm works right now, is the longer a search goes on, the wider the parameters (if you find a match in 30 seconds it will be a very close match-up, if it takes 3 hours to find a war it could be a VERY, VERY bad match-up for one side).

You are correct, I am a competitive adult gamer, which is why our clan has won 20 in a row, and why I believe that there shouldn't be such an option just because less competitive players don't want to take the time to learn how to properly set up their base to counter a dragon attack at TH8.

The comments about how you should make the word OPTIONAL big, red, and bold was not directed at you, rather I was making fun of the people who read your post and began ranting that they didn't want to be limited to only 50% of one troop type. You said OPTIONAL enough times that, imo, anybody who started raging about not wanting to only be able to use 50% of a troop type, could be written off as people who won't form coherent, well thought out responses to any issue.

If they fight with dragons, fight them back with dragons.

Mass Dragons are only brainless attack against a th7. At th8 u need to create a good funnel to send them in. And at high th8, its only a sure 2*. As for ur rinse and repeat part then gowipe is also brainless and so is mass hogs.
As your idea will create a different pool of clans, mis-matches will be more often

Dragons are fun. They are not really that complicated to control. GoWiPe is much harder to control well, and much harder to 3 star a similar base.

True, it is usually easy for a TH8 base to 3 star a TH8 base with a dragon led attack, but not always. Sometimes, you find a TH8 base that is well designed. It is about well placed distractions around the outside.

Many TH8s are terrible at using dragons, even placing them all in one spot at once. This clumsy attacks work against a compact anti-barch base, but against a well designed base it fails (one star), nothing getting to the centre and surviving.

When you get bored with dragons, upgrade to TH9.

Honestly, my main objection is that you are proposing an option in the game to support war matchmaking for clans with specific play-style preferences. However, in 4 pages of comments, not a single other poster/player has indicated that they would want or use such a playstyle feature.

This tells me that you are requesting a feature upgrade that would be used by a very small number of clans; hence, not worth the SC resources to implement.

Based on your "thoughtful answer" post above, I believe that you are off-topic for this forum. That is, it looks like you are fine with addressing the all-dragon issue with tactical advice for defending against all-dragon attacks, which means the solution may lie in the Tactics forums, rather than in the Ideas & Feature Requests forum.
