Pekka vs Witches / Gowipe vs Gowiwi - Which works best for you and why?

So I'm currently trying to delve deeper into both Gowiwi and Gowipe attacks at TH10. They are two of the most common attack methods and often the basis for other attacks such as Logo or Hogo etc.

For me, the Pekka orientated attack is all about getting those troops into the middle as fast as possible and then inflicting damage left, right and centre from there. The witch orientated attack is more a gradual sweep over the base - there is still am emphasis of getting into the middle, but it is not so rushed and you tend to try and take out those side buildings on your way.

Both attacks clearly have benefits and can be used accordingly depending on what kind of base you are attacking - but ultimately there is a personal preference when it comes down to it.

I guess my question simply is - Pekka or Witches - and why? This vid is an example of both attacks 3 starring TH10s:

I think it boils down to this - Pekkas are normally great for 2 star strategies at TH10 - if you get a really hard base then attacking with pekkas can get you that 2 stars regardless. Withches and a Gowiwi can be apart of a bigger plan for 3 stars. Why? Because they are quicker, and Pekkas are just very slow...

In order to decide between which combo to use, i evaluate opponents base based on compartments. If you face a lot of 1 to 2 building compartments GoWiPe will yield better results because pekka can get thru walls quicker than witches. GoWiWi is good if you have few large compartments or a lot of buildings outside the base. The skeletons have room to roam and confuse defenses and trigger traps while wizards blast the rubbish away. As th10 there is also one more important factor you must consider and that is inferno towers. Inferno towers that are set to multiple targets will eat your witches quick, no matter how quick they generate skeletons. If inferno towers are set to single target your peekas will not last too long in the core. I would imagine GoWiWi for Infernos set to single target and GoWiPe for infernos set to multiple targets.

IMO, if your heroes are weak or missing due to upgrades - PEKKA. Otherwise, gowiwi. I have however seen a youtube video where a guy did several of both attacks, and gowipe was more consistent (and he clearly knew what he was doing). So it probably very much depends on the particulary base.

You vid has two bad examples of what you are talking about.

The first one has 4 golems, 1 pekka and 2 witches. It's closer to a GoWiWiPe than GoWipe. You need 3 pekkas to be a real GoWiPe.

The second one has 4 golems and 3 witches. I would say 4 witches is a minimum for a GoWiWi.

The fact that there were level 2 infernos there greatly helped those 3 stars (and level 30+ heroes).

I run GoWiWiPe also. (2 pekkas, 2 witches and 3 golems)

But here are my advice to decide between GoWiWi and GoWiPe.

1) infernos. two single infernos clearly suggest going with GoWiWi. If the infernos are not close together, you will have a tough time protecting your pekkas from the max inferno burst. If the opponent has 2 witches in CC and well placed heroes, your pekkas will burn

2) teslas location. If I suspect the core is full of teslas and that my golems might not get in front of my pekkas, I'l rely more on GoWiWi than GoWiPe because the pekkas die too fast against 4 maxed teslas

3) Full segmentation of level 9+ walls. Like it was said, when the base has a lot of segmentations, witches can get stuck and just die from mortars shot. Your pekkas can find their way through all this with their DPS

So for those reasons, I ran GoWiWiPe because it will manage most cases. I don't do 3 stars much. But it's really a 2 stars comp

His testing methodology is a bit sketchy (he couldn't test against the same exact bases), but for the most part his reasoning seems sound.

Thanks for this - I wonder, do you think that having Lvl 40 heroes would make a big difference in favour of the gowipe? I say this because the heroes would last much longer, taking more hits and therefore allowing the pekkas to stay alive for a longer period of time. This means that they pekkas can do much more damage, especially under a rage, if there heroes can tank for them.

For lower heroes, they wouldn't have this defence. Gowiwi on the other hand has continuous skeletons to try and take the hit. Perhaps the higher your heroes, the more beneficial Gowipe might be over Gowiwi.

I really can't say. i know is hero level seems to play more a part in gowiwi than gowipe. Obviously higher hero levels benefit both, but I think it would benefit gowiwi more, since they are essentially taking on the role the pekka's normally play.

Yeh I guess you have a point - TBH once you have high heroes, it is just OP whatever the attack method! ;)
