Battle for Artifacts

My idea would be to make a Treasury building and add Artifact items for which players could fight constantly and that aren't resources.

Treasury - A new building
The Treasury would be the place to store Artifacts and it has a limit of holding maximum 3 type of artifacts.

Artifacts - Lootable items that need to be defended
Artifacts are items that have magical powers which give some benefits to players who hold these items.

-Each artifact is consisting of 3 pieces so a maximum of 9 pieces of 3 different artifacts can be stored in the Treasury.
-The more pieces you have from an artifact in your Treasury the higher benefit you get.
-A full set of 3 pieces from an artifact type gives the highest benefit.
-Artifacts have powers such as they decrease of 5 - 10% of all building costs or another one to speed up construction and research by 5 - 10%. Another one could increase the HP of all buildings by 5 - 10%.
-There are 3 different types of artifacts available.

Battle for Artifacts
The way to receive Artifacts is to attack other players' treasury and loot artifact pieces.

-Attackers can only loot a maximum of 1 piece per attack.
-Attacker doesn't know if defender has any artifacts in the treasury and if they have which type of artifact it is from
-After a successful looting attacker can decide to keep or leave an artifact piece
-If you keep an artifact piece from looting it will go to your treasury
-If you leave the looted piece it will go back to defender's Treasury
-Attacker can only loot an artifact if he has Treasury that is not full
-Until you own all 3 pieces from an artifact type in your Treasury you cannot keep an artifact piece of the same type after looting

I'm looking forward to hear what you think about this idea.

This is pretty interesting. One of my initial thoughts is these artifacts could just be stored in the town hall then it would be a lot more valuable to everyone and also you would have yet another storage to protect.

They way you describe it there would be a limited amount of these items since they only come from other players. How would they be initially distributed? What happens when people quit and there villages get attacked less, can more be made?

Great idea! I would find the game more interesting if this is in a future update.

Perhaps building the treasury would randomly generate some number of these artifacts. Maybe 1 piece of each type or something.

Abandoned bases would be tricky as yeah they would consume artifacts. There would have to be a way to introduce more. However being able to build them would probably make them not scarce enough.

Definitely an interesting idea. Storing in the TH is also an interesting twist on the mechanic.

I like your approach dahimi. Maybe those artifacts could be made available by beating the last goblin level or so and you get one random piece once. That could provide some extra motivation to do the goblin levels (and maybe any future final levels of other single player missions). And all those players who did beat the last goblin level already just get the item at next login.

But building them could be okay too I think, if it just takes relatively long. Maybe it could take 14 days to finish one piece. Gemmable or not, I don't know.

Wow, Good I idea. I like it al ot. It definitely would make it cool if you stored them in the TH and people had to defend it. It would also be neat if you could hide them somewhere. And maybe you had a character like an archeologist that you could bring with you in your attack that would be looking for them in other bases. Not sure what the cost of the archeologist would be, but I think that would work well with this idea...

I think this is a great idea and it would certainly add some extra depth to the game. The rewards for holding these artefacts sound great too. Come on Supercell, take a look at this =]

How is it that a quit persons base would consume artifacts? Do they get attacked less? Less resources over time so no one attacks it? Less instances of them removing a shield? The collectors still collect so.. I would still attack it?

I am missing how the abandoned bases hurt this pretty neat new idea? Once all of the pieces of artifacts are looted from their TH then they have no impact on this anymore


Maybe you get one piece of artifact for completing all the challenges

One for the goblin missions.

One per TH upgrade?

Add additional challenges and instead of gem rewards have an artifact reward.

In matching, active players/villages will come up in the queue before inactive villages, the are not gone but you are less likely to find them. In the OP the artifacts come from looting players, if that were they only way to get them inactive villages would all but remove them from the pool. This doesn't really hurt the overall concept they would just have to be more than one way to acquire them like building them, looting them off goblins, or like the ones you've suggested.

I like the idea to store the treasures in the town hall. The only difference in this case is that having a dedicated Treasury building would visually indicate attackers that there's a chance or not for looting artifact pieces from a specific defender. Although storing the treasures in the TH would make it a lot easier to implement the feature.

I also like the idea to provide another way to get new artifact pieces in the loop. For this I agree that looting goblins would work best. I'd suggest to let the pieces drop with a random chance after pillaging goblin villages with 3 stars.

Since there's a lot of new players joining every day who will have the chance to loot artifact pieces from goblins this will counter-balance the inactive players who take artifact pieces out of the loop (as Zombiebender mentioned they are less likely to get in the battle matching).

Maybe they could add a few extra levels that are harder than normal to get artifacts. The missions could regenerate say 1 piece per week to keep players from having all artifacts. I like the town hall storage idea because it would provide a reason to keep the town hall inside that would not disrupt the normal play of the game.

how about everyone who builds tresury should get a random artifact.
tresury should be possible at th10 only.

One of the most interesting and unique ideas i have seen lately. It should be made sticky and everyone should read and pool their views.

What do you guys think, how would this affect high-level gameplay?

I'm a bit concerned that there's only positive responses so far. Do you see any potential downsides?

Thanks for the info, I did not know that.

As someone below mentioned perhaps new players joining and completing goblin missions would offset also. If you got random chance for artifices from 3starring the gobbies.

Maybe the TH would "swirl" as in when a mine is gemmed for upped production? That way you can tell which artifacts if any they are holding? Or perhaps the TH could fly a flag for each type of artifact?

I really like the idea. I think storing them in townhalls would be something that would add a new strategy to defense. In my opinion I think throwing in artifacts for certain achievements would balance out the inactives. I don't know if the artifacts should have any real value however...

The first concern I heard now about this concept was that since you don't have 100% influence on your attack because you don't control your units nor have you 100% influence on your defence it will be very annoying if somebody attacks you and takes your hard earned artifact for which you had to fight a lot to loot it from others.

I have my own opinion on this but I wanted to hear your thoughts.

This is a similar idea to a totems thread a item that can have a effect on the village.

its just how they are collected and the type of powers you have given them, and the fact they can be stolen which is a tricky idea, as if they are rare then they will be hard to keep for anyone but a top player, if they are common then soon every one has them.

The only thing I will say if you want to keep to the original idea then most are going to end up in the hands of TH9-10 players very quickly with little chance they will get stolen back.


And any system would need a trade dialog so if you have say 2 bits of a artifacts but have 9 in store already and you find the last bit for your set when attacking you have to traded them with the attacker. so you only have 9 but the 3 matching ones for your sets. So you have to leave one to take one.


so trade is inevitably part of the system.
so make it a aggressive trade transaction you can trade but only if you 3 star a player, and to take you have to be able to leave a bit in exchange. You can only change 1 part per attack. Or 1 whole artifact.

If you except everyone has them then they can be common but have rarer artifacts to collect. And they only work when completed and when completed they stay whole so to lose one in battle the player attacking must swop another complete artifact in exchange.

So every player gets 1 for every TH level so a level 9 TH gets 3 working artifacts if he can find and hold onto the matching sets the only way he can swop is by 3 staring another player that has a whole working artifact.

now if you want to make it a agressive trade transaction then the TH as a store gets my vote.
you could make it you can only trade completed artifacts if you 3 star a player but can trade 1 bit per star on wins.

Maybe you can get one by clearing a tree but its on like a 15% chance idk numbers just an idea. you could also buy and sell them from PLAYERS. not in shop but buy off global chat for gold.

"Chief, our new artifact has been displayed in the Town Hall! It inspires those lazy builders so much that they work faster!"

You are right the artifacts as items with powers are similar to the totems in the other concept but I think the more important part of this concept is that you need to fight for getting and keeping those artifacts.

I think both concerns that you raised are valid. High level players would collect and keep the artifacts and you would need a trading screen to get the proper artifact pieces.
However I think it would be key to keep this feature fair and interesting for most players and also I would prefer keeping it simple so it's easy to learn and understand for everyone.

Therefore I would suggest to do the following changes:
1. Artifacts are stored in Town Hall
2. One type of artifact consists of 3 identical pieces. the more you have from these the more added bonus you get
3. You can loot artifact from 3 star goblin village lootings with a random drop chance or from looting players' town hall
4. In an attack you can only loot artifact from players who are at the same level as you or higher.

What do you think of these changes? Would they make this feature more balanced, fair and easy to understand?

I like, but how would you address the fact that many players have already done most/all of the goblin missions?

It's actually fully matching the concept. Currently there's no benefit of replaying the goblin missions because you don't get any more resources if you already did them for 100%. But with the introduction of artifacts you could have the chance to get them in the loot. So both those who did all goblin missions for 100% and those who did not reach 100% would replay the missions.
