If they're pushing they'll be in a high enough league to get a shield anyway. If they're not pushing they probably have to trophy drop anyway.

This is very similar to an idea that I came up with last march in response to Warren's ill fated thead. The initial post I made is on page four of that thread here: http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...-Attacks/page4
I did flesh it out to prevent the "leave your storages out" problem and create an entirely new thread but it didn't get much traction and I am unable to bring it up in my search results now. While I can agree that something like this may be a better design in concept the big problem is . . . CoC is a HUGELY successful cash cow. Making sweeping changes to the core gameplay design mid-stream is a horrible, terrible, idiotic, stupid, crazy, foolish idea from a business perspective.
Should SC really risk hundreds of millions of dollars with sweeping changes that the community has been very vocal against just because it makes more sense, or should they continue making small additions and tweaks while releasing new content and ensuring they keep their massive revenue generator healthy? If it is my hundreds of millions of dollars I know what the answer is. Is reworking the shield/loot system good design? . . . probably. Is it a good idea? . . . 99% certainly not. Unfortunate but true. Work the new system into CoC2 or whatever game follows.
