Mortars and walls lol
The most important defense to this game is air defense. Without it, this game would be riddled with balloon-, minion-, and dragon-spamming clashers!
One word...clan castle,not only and amazing defensive structure but the reson we play so much(aka clans!)

Wizards towers and mortars.
Its a good tie between xbow and wizard towers.Xbow with its fast shooting takes out alot of targets. However Wiz Towers take out alot of troops too with that splash damage. Both go against ground and air units so both are very important toupgrade. Tough to choose one becaus ethey all have their strengths ad weakness but id have to go withWiz tower ultimately.
Clan castle troops. IIRC, it can have the highest DPS out of any defense. As long as its positioned well in the base, imo, it's the best defense you can have, as well as being incredibly annoying since it forces the attacker to alter their strategy and take into account CC troops (either by luring them out and killing them or just outright ignoring them).
As a TH8, definitely mortars. As a soon to be TH9, I'm guessing mortars/WT/X-bow.
It is kind of relative isn't it? At the higher trophy counts I would assume you'd have a lot more people coming back with AD X-bow, Inferno Tower, and HT because of the troop spread.
