Dooboo's Guide on when to upgrade your town hall to 9 and 10
I saw many people still asking questions on whether they are ready to upgrade their town hall from 8 to 9 and 9 to 10. It's been numerously answered by different people. Here's my
As a town hall 10, I would like to give my 2 cents to this age-long question by explaining the BARE MINIMUM requirement of upgrading the town hall so that you can still enjoy the game after the upgrade.
Town hall 8 -> 9
Defense & Buildings:
1. Maxed mortars : Mortars are the key structures that allow you to defend against witch, wizards, and archers.
2. Maxed wizard towers : Wizard towers are the best defense against ground units.
3. Maxed air defense : in a clan war, you should be able to defend successfully against a full dragon attack as a town hall 9. Thus, maxed air defense is a must.
4. Maxed TESLA : TESLA can help you defend your key structure when you put 4 of them together. Upgrade these towers. I know they take forever, but these are well worth it.
5. Moderate level of archer and cannon towers : They're good to upgrade, but not absolutely necessary.
6. walls : Level 7 walls or higher should suffice.
7. Spell factory : this building should be the first building that you upgrade as th 8 & 9.
8. Clan castle : clan castle IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Troop :
Mandatory :
Barbarian & Archer Level 5 : These are your farming troops. Of course, you'd want them to be at the least level 5 before you head into town hall 9.
Wall-breakers level 5: You need these for clan war and occasional revenge. Don't need them for BARCH tho.
Wizard Level 5 : Wizards!!!! These fireball throwing beasts can help you successfully defend against giants. Your clan members will ask for them all the time.
Heal spell : heal spell is extremely useful. Please upgrade these to as high as possible.
Rage spell : Same goes for the rage spell.
At least one of the following :
Golem & PEKKA : townhall 9 is where you can start experimenting with different strategies in clan wars. If you like ground troops, then golems are the best. Pekkas can help you secure the safe two stars against any level of town hall 9. It is expected that a normal town hall 9 player would know how to use GOWIPE. Balloons & Minions : If you are ambitious and want to 3-star a TH9 as a TH9, then one of the most effective army is Lavaloon or lavaloonion (or GOLAVA). It is extremely fun to use them. I can 3 star a fully maxed town hall 9 with Lavaloonion about 70% of the time. Check Gadi hh on youtube for his amazing lava attack guides. He's the best lavaloon user I've seen on youtube.
Highly Recommended :
Giant Level 5 : If you don't use it, you don't need these. You can farm all you want just using barch. In fact, Barch farms better than BAG or Giant & Archer.
Hogs : If you can afford it, hogs can be used in many attack as secondary or tertiary units. However, they are not absolutely necessary. My hogs are still level 1, and I just ask for my clan members to donate me seven level 5 hogs whenever I need them. Still, it's nice to have.
Town hall 9 -> 10
As a town hall 8, you have all the reason to rush your town hall. You get cool new units at town hall 9, not to mention the amazing archer queen. However, as a townhall 9, you really don't have many incentives to climb up to th 10. The farming is slightly worse (now you can't pick on town hall 8s) and everything is so expensive.
Here's my advice on the minimum requirement you should meet to climb up to town hall 10.
Defense & Buildings (listed in upgrade priority):
Minimum requirement:
0. Clan castle : troop capacity of 30 means another golem or lava hound.
0. Army camp : duh
0. Spell factory : duh^2
1. Maxed crossbow : level 3 crossbows are VERY VERY VERY good.
2. Maxed Wizard Towers : these 4 wizard towers are beast.
3. Maxed mortars : They are cheap and efficient.
4. Maxed air defense : good for clan war. still... clan war is everything.
Highly recommended :
1. Maxed TESLA : Same reason as th 8. These things are really good.
2. Maxed Archer & cannon towers : No need to rush to town hall 10, my friend. Upgrade archer towers first, then cannons second.
Recommended:
6. walls : Upgrading your walls to skull walls can make your base look intimidating. I'd suggest at least getting 30% of your walls to lego in order to defend the crucial parts of your base. If upgrading your walls bore you, then skip it and go for town hall 10.
Troop :
Mandatory :
Barbarian & Archer Level 6 : If you have level 6 barch, you can farm as a town hall 10, no problem. I am a town hall 10 with level 7 barb and level 6 archer. I can still farm pretty well. I decided not to go for level 7 archer as I thought level 5 freezing spell takes priority for me.
Jump spell Level 2 : Jump spell is extremely good both for farming and clan war.
Heal & Rage : heal and rage spells are very useful, as you already know. I mean you're town hall 9.
Barbarian King level 15 & Archer queen level 15 : You should at least have the heroes at level 15 for easy farming.
Highly recommended
Golem level 4: good for clan war. Used in GOLAVA, GOWIWI, GOWIPE, and many more.
PEKKA level 3: these are ok for clan war. They become very good when you max them at town hall 10.
Witch level 2: Only need to upgrade it once. Good for clan war.
Lava hound level 2: These flying pigs are so much better when you upgrade them.
Maxed balloons: Oh ballooons. I love them balloooons.
Minion level 5: Minions are quite useful when you are not very familiar with lavaloon strategy. Throw in some extra 10 ~ 15 minions. Also used for farming, but I prefer to stick with just barch.
