"Practicing" war attacks?

Hi Guys - For those of you who are very successful in war, how do you practice your attacks? In multiplayer, do you create an army you want to practice with, and just keep nexting until you find a suitable base?

War armies are darn expensive, so how do the really good guys get so good...knowing what armies to use against what type of base etc....I cant imagine they do this just by doing a heap of wars?

Any strategies you could suggest would be greatly appreciated....Im a good farmer, but want to get good at war also.

That is exactly what I do. As soon as you are a "mid-TH-level" you mostly have plenty of Elexir lieing around, so that should not be a problem.

Now and then I train a Gowiva/Gowipe/HoWi/GoHo-composition for example and search in multiplayer for a Base that is roughly as strong as mine and try out different ways to deploy my troops.

I also think of other troop compositions, for example yesterday I tried what GoGiWiVaPe or GiVaHoWi can and tried how it works. Found some nice, good working compositions with that, also you get a feeling how the different troops react and how you manage your deploy-timing best.

Sometimes at War and I don´t know exactly which strategy would work for my opponent I also make a composition and search in multiplayer after a base that is a bit similiar to my opponents base. It´s still more difficult in War, because in multiplayer you rarely find a village with strong CC-troops and all traps and defenses activated...

But you get a feeling how the different troops react and which combos work fine together and which not.

Best Way is to watch Youtube channels. I learnt a lot that way. Re-watching your own attacks helps even better.
I watch them atleast 10 times and see how i could have done better.
Finally wars itself is a practice on its own. Remember to discuss your attacks with good players in your clan.
I remember i could not get a star on th9 with gowiwi when Clan wars was released initially :p
MM did not really work for me.

I watch youtube a lot (vodkacoc, ashlain, gadi, jes to name a few)...and Kara's encyclopedia are among those i frequently visit...

I've been attacking exclusively with war style armies in multiplayer for months now. Usually use around 150k~200k elixir and 800~1k DE per attack. It has not prevented me from being able to save resources for upgrades.

Not saying you should do the same, just that you shouldn't be shy of building an expensive army every now and then to raid in multiplayer. You get more practice with the troops and potentially get more resources by doing a good storage raids.

War is still different from multiplayer, though. So you'll still need do the other stuff suggested above (watch videos, discuss attacks with clan, etc).

I tend to like testing war attacks on revenge villages that are setup for trophy builds and have cc troops. But these are tough to grab, you simply can't get the same practice as you can in war in regular attacks, but it never hurts to test regardless.

I find it very difficult to get good war practice in multiplayer for a few reasons.

For starters, my war army is always customized to exploit the specific base I'm attacking. I'll have a general idea of army comp for each attack strategy, but the troop count really varies way too much to make it effective for simulating war attacks.

Another problem is with multiplayer practice is lack of scouting. Proper base identification and scouting takes considerably longer than 30 seconds. If one is using any advanced/technical attack style, planning will take a minimum for 5-10 min (often longer if strategizing with clanmates. This should include identifying the base vulnerabilities, figuring out troop count for each troop, deciding the most efficient way to deal with the cc, figuring out the troop pathing, spells, etc., the list goes on.

Given these limitations of war practice in multiplayer, I've found it most helpful to watch youtube vids from good instructors (gadi hh & onehive are the two best IMO), to save your second attack for late in the war so that you can practice a new strat if the war is already won/lost, and lastly to watch all war replays. Regarding war replays, you should watch both the successes and failures both against your clan and the enemy clan. When watching successes, try to identify what made the attack successful. When watching fails, try to identify what caused the attack to fail. For example, did the attacker deploy wallbreakers at the wrong time and get taken out by mortar? Did they drop a spell in a bad place? Doing these things has helped my war attacks far more than practicing in multiplayer.

Youtube Videos are fine to see, but in my case, I didn´t realy learn the attack. Of course, the theoretical part, but watching and making are still completely different tasks.

I know exactly when I watched a Hog-attack or a GoWiVa attack on Youtube where everything seemed to be that easy, just to be frustrated seeing a 1-star result after copying the Youtube-attack.

It´s fine for the basics but it´s still important to practice it foryour own. GoWiVa for example is a popular and succesfull attack strategy. Strangely I often struggle with the "classic" GoWiVa style you can often see here in the forums, but have a high success-rate with simply substituting one Golem, a Valkyrie and 1-2 wizards for 10 Giants(greater damage compared to Golem).

With the trial and error method I have some realy good working army compositions now and it´s always good to have a variety of strategys than having only one where you always have to hope that your opponent has a fitting base design.

Most people say, you can´t compare a War-attack with a multiplayer attack and I agree with that partially. In War you can scout and plan your attack, while in multiplayer not. In multiplayer there are mostly some defenses upgrading at the moment, while in War not. So in my opinion this compensates the things a bit. Despite War attacks are more difficult either.
