Rushing Town Hall - Good or Bad?

I'm currently between halfway and 2/3 through th7 as far as upgrades go and until now I've been following the "max out before progressing" procedure. However, I've seen several interesting threads about how it is actually good to rush your town hall and only upgrade important army upgrades before progressing, and leave your defences until about th9. I'm quite an active player and my number of attacks far exceeds my number of defences, so this makes sense to a farmer like me. I'm still fairly new to the game though so I'd like to know the opinions of more experienced players before diving into the deep end. Any thoughts on this?

If you attack as often as you say you do and you are not interested in competitive Clan Wars, I would say you are a good candidate for rushing.

I'm sure somebody will link you some guides to read. Definitely follow their guidance which will help you make the right decisions on upgrades based on their experience. It's a decision you can't go back on, so research is imperative. It also depends a whole lot on your playstyle and goals.

Answer the questions

• Why do I play Clash of Clans?
• What do I get out of it?
• Where do I want to be and when?

Those answers will help shape your answer. Rushing is a very effective way to get to a more advanced stage of the game earlier, but there are valid reasons to not do so.

It is also not a panacea and it may hurt your clan in Clan Wars. It shouldn't, but it does require adjustments and understanding. For instance if you are a given TH and you 3 star that same TH level regularly, you're more than pulling your own weight as a rusher. So if someone is TH8, they should 3 star TH8 after a couple weeks there, etc. This is true of maxers also, but they usually rank as TH8 when they should be attacking TH8, rushers do not rank as high as they should attack.


My accounts all rush or look like they do. Defense is irrelevant if you can farm ~2 million of a resource in a session (and not that important if you can make 3-5 attacks in a session). Before TH9 the max expense is about 3 million. Also, in Gold and higher leagues you will almost always be sniped, even with significant resources (especially if it's significant elixir with minimal gold).

People still farm for gold more than elixir at TH9 and TH10 due to needing gold specifically to increase their defenses. This is mostly because some people care to farm for defenses but don't care to farm for walls so they select bases preferentially that have higher gold and ignore the all elixir bases.

I think it's good to rush before th9 since you are active.

Well it really depends on why you want to rush but I will assume that it's cause you want to max out your account as Quick as possible.

And then it's really simple if you're an Active player, it's time to upgrade your TH when either your defences, lab upgrades, heroes, walls or elixir upgrades are finished.

I Think that you're able to upgrade walls with elixir at TH 8 (please correct me if I'm wrong) so if your elixir upgrades are done which I imagine will be the first problem for TH 7s you're able to stay there for a while longer, there's no Point in rushing to TH 9 unless some of the above is maxed, it's only then you lose time in your goal at maxing your account if you're Active.

Well, it's actually at TH9 where elixir for walls comes into play.
(And that's where the argument of rushing to TH9 comes into play. Doesn't apply to this thread)

On-Topic:
As long as you don't log in, raid only 1-2 times, then log out (like I do now, lol), it's perfectly fine to rush
If you can't raid in sessions, don't rush. If you can, it's your choice.

this coin has two sides.

the good side is; if you can raid with reliable frequency (say around 2-3 cumulative hrs, or better, more like 3-6 straight hours) each day... like 4-7 days per week, you can usually out gain any losses; and progress your troops, walls, defenses, Royals and Elixir upgrades with out a lot of set backs. provided you plan your builder time well.

the other side. Bad.

If you have Low leveled defense turrets, and you have High level TH (Like TH7 or less defs, and you are TH9, or worse TH10)

AND you have low leveled troops/spells to raid with, (like L4 or worse)

AND you do not raid more than say 10 or so raids IN A DAY!!

AND your pumps aren't maxed...

then its probably not a good idea to rush. This is a disaster, and probably the worse case scenario to be sure.. but it happens a lot, and I crush every one I see that profits me every day :p

having said that. you can craw outta the hole if you only have SOME of those issues, low level troops are the biggest issue in that list IMO. followed by not raiding enough to sustain that particular TH level.

If you can raid reliably enough to out gain any losses in a few raids or over a long session (boosted may help here too) it will allow you to dump some of the loot into walls and lower leveled troops and turrets and start digging your way outta a rushed mess sooner.

Active or not is everyone here not recalling the loot penalty for rushed THs???

just looting 1 th lvl lower than you can turn a 100K loot to 75k loot, even if you rush raids with the amount and quality of troops your barracks provides. Its a clear weakness.

what benefit does a high town hall have for the most part? more upgrade choices?yes. but inst it the same going up in a steady progress time wise, i mean if your builders huts running full time then rushing a town hall doesnt do much good. and as for warring, please rush your town hall and make my wars easier~

everyone forgets that a good defense is the best offense.

anyway just some critical arguments based on observation

Wrong. It goes from 100k to 90k since its only 10%. Superior troop power makes up for the loot penatly that ceases even to exist. As you raid higher ths, they hold more loot, thus offering more to steal and making loot penalty useless if you know how to raid. As a th9, i dont care to raid th7s, only big fat th8s who insist on maxing a becoming th9s personal ATM.

I rushed and I find raids like that all the time. Keep in mind im not actively raiding anymore since ive lost interest and 5 builders cant keep up and i dont like dumping loot into walls right now. You could Barch those bases easily after the new update that matches vs similar ths.

Second point is also questionable. Because all my upgrades are near maxed, i need to play all day long in order to make 7-8 million gold a day to keep the builders constantly going. A person who rushed actually has an easier time keeping the builders busy. What do we get in terms of upgrade?? Superior offense and in this game, offense is clearly superior to defense. You can max the base all you want, below th9 any competent raider will 3 star you and at th10, you will get 2 starred if the person is a decent attacker.

Its not hard if you stop at TH9.
