Getting quite frustrated using it, as it is not helping you to break through the second layer.
drop a pair to break first layer, done. Next, drop another pair hoping will break 2nd layer, but it went to break another first layer a distance away.
drop the 3rd pair, it went to the other corner to break it. Damn..... looks like you just need to bring just a few to break first layer, and let other troops to break the other layers.
or better yet read up on their ai and figure out how they work. They target a section of walls with a building behind. Now, random spurts of "random ai" and that "what if" factor they've programmed in aside, if you want wb's to open up the second layer, you have to make sure nothing in the first layer has a building behind it, or the second layer is much much much closer. multi compartment front rows need to have all buildings cleared before you try to go for the second layer, otherwise they will try to open each compartment first. If you destroy the buildings behind that first layer, magically WB's will penetrate the base and go for an inner wall, following suit in the same manner after that. Use this to create "WB funnels" to get them where you want to go. or bring a lot of them.

Basically the wall breakers target wall compartments with buildings inside. If a base is designed with many compartments in the first layer it will be difficult to break thru to the second layer. On that case you want to break into multiple compartments at the same time (aim for a T section in the wall), since this eliminates two compartments at once from the WB AIs view.
Another thing is that droping one pair of WB, waiting them to break wall, send another pair, wait again is way too slow. You probably want to send the second set of WB before the first set breaks the wall. That way the second set of WBs will walk closer to the wall, and will be more likely to target the wall behind it.
But what really helps in my attack is to use a rage spell. Walls go down with a single WB on that case, making it much easier to go deeper.

I'm attacking this base from the south:

Now that those two walls are broken, I know that those two whole compartments are now eliminated from WBs AI. This is represented as walls painted blue on screenshots:

Now I send WBs to the middle compartment:

Once that wall is broken I send in two more WBs, this time spaced a bit and drop a rage spell:

At this point if I had not broken open the walls where the Golems were the WBs would've deviated to the left or right. But I took care of those walls early to avoid that problem.
First WB breaks open the compartment where AD is:

This is a bit of a surprise since the compartments for the elixir storages and mortars is still closed. I would normally have expected this WB to go either left or right.
WBs sometimes do this, instead of going for the nearest compartment, they just keep blowing up walls on a straight line. But this happens rarely, and usually only after the second wall in a line is broken.
On this case it was quite convenient since now pekkas have a straight open path to the TH:

2 simple tips from me:
1. Release a pair or trio wb on a wide to penetrate wide, release all of your wb in one spot one moment to penetrate deep
2. Beside trap, mortar and wiz tower will kills your wb's instantly even you have meat shield in front wb, learn to avoid wiz tow especially, since most of ppl know how to avoid mortar
