Why is the Air Sweeper Necessary?

This game has drifted so far towards defense that it is getting very frustrating to play at higher levels. At higher levels, it is extremely difficult to even 50% somebody that is at your level. One of the few armies that was viable at higher levels is the LavaLoon army. Instead of improving ground attacks viability at higher levels, they have added another air defense! The inferno towers basically make hogs unusable. They simply don't have the health to survive, even at level 5. Golems are hard to use due to the insane amount of wall health and, again, inferno towers being able to target both your golems and your wizards.

Am I the only one who has seen the game get severely out of balance at high levels? I'm not necessarily against the air sweeper but something should be done to bring back balance and give people a chance on the offensive side. Either lower wall health or introduce higher level giants than seven and higher level hogs or maybe a combination of both. You can look through all the top players and almost all of them are using air troops. To me that seems obvious that they haven't made ground troops strong enough to compete at the higher levels.

i think an air defense that actually did damage would've been good.

if you guys never thought air attacks were over powered then you've never been attacked by hounds balloons and minions.

I think you gave the reason right there. There's no mandate that you HAVE to be able to 3 star every base. No one has been unfairly advantaged or disadvantaged by the addition of the air sweeper. It's really not that strong, and everyone can get it. Maybe it will force development some new ground strategies.

The sweeper was necessary, so that many of those elite war clans would have something to blame for their decrease in three starring...after the same update put a stop to the fluffy.

Was it overpowered? Or was it rightly powered and everything else was just underpowered? I am going to hazard a guess that 99% of th10's couldn't 3 star a max war base.

The problem with the game is there is 2 games that contradict each other. Trophy pushing you want defenses as strong as possible to make it hard. War however you want bases reasonable to 3*. They need to find a way to work these two modes. They don't work on the same plain and they need to realize that.

I don't think the defense strength is based on actual game play it is balanced against a simulation of game play. It is obvious that the only thing important is that the offense isn't over powered. That's the sum of their concern. The more they add the less control we have, more bugs, and the less fun it is to play. The higher level players have very little fun these days. I war and I play other games I see no future for me in clash..

Defense is stupid overpowered, traps have too much power to ruin an attack, it is not manageable by the average human mind. Too busy, too many variables, no feeling of control

You cannot three star anybody over level 100 that isn't an idiot with those armies. It just isn't possible with inferno towers, xbows set to air, and 4 AD's. They are overpowered at lower levels but they simply just aren't at higher levels. You could have increased damage for lower levels of AD but it is simply untrue that air defenses are overpowered at higher levels. What is true at higher levels is that ground troops are unusuable. Level 5 hogs cannot be used effectively, consistently against upgrading inferno towers and 3 xbows. Golems don't protect wizards, etc from inferno towers. If you can't use air troops at higher levels, what the hell are you supposed to use?

And may I ask what hybrid attacks you're talking about?

Drags at th7 were OP, at th8 not at all against late th8s with decent base design. Pentalaloon at th9 isn't too easy, trust me, I'm from a strong war clan and I know quite a bit about war attacks. The bases you attack either just are weak to penta, or have sucky ads.

At th10 shatter laloon was already a very difficult to execute (and possibly the only) 3-star war attack against max th10, now it's gonna be harder.

I personally think that the primary reason for the Air Sweeper was to lend TH7 a hand against Drag attacks. I wouldn't have minded, instead, to give them another Air Defense

Giants need to be nerfed. The fact Lvl 7 giants can with stand tons of damage from my full maxed defenses as a TH9 really pisses me off. And I have maxed skull walls.

Well its still possible, but highly improbable which is like arguing over minor details.




Right or Wrong, its something I hate about Th10. My minni Th8 rarely suffers a no star. So I get loot even when my war performance sucks beans.

My Th10 spends a small fortune to cook up an army strong enough to reasonably get 1-2 stars and if I mess up I get absolutely nothing. For my Th10 this is a huge hit, an even bigger hit than it is for my Th8 counterpart.

True my Th10 stands to gain a ♥♥♥♥ ton of loot as compared to my Th8, which still stands to make solid loot

Right or wrong, it makes Th10 less fun IMO.

Dude, you are supposed to be destroyed by level 7 giants at TH9. You are part of the problem. It is OK to get beat every now and then in a WAR game. If level 7 giants can't crush TH9, what the hell good are they? They sure as hell won't kill TH10.

Air is still arguably the most effective two and three star strat.

I don't think the air sweeper has any affect on TH7 dragon defense, unless the attacker is very poor. The only thing you have to do to 3 star any TH7 with mass drags is lightning one AD and spam the dragons as close as possible to the second AD.

There is no configuration that I can think of that would prevent one from taking out the AD that is "most downwind" from the air sweeper and not allow the attacker to come in behind the air sweeper to take out the second AD.

The place that I think it probably has the most effect is a max TH8. It allows one to strengthen one side of the base, and aim the air sweeper at the other side, blowing over the ADs. I did this, and have not been successfully even 2 starred with mass drags. Granted I've only been attacked twice, but I think it's going to be that much more difficult, if not impossible to 3 star me with mass drags now (without the help of hounds).

The top players all use Air because it is pretty much a guaranteed win. But those wins are generally one star, occasionaly 2 star. The guaranteed win is a must since -39 for a loss is crushing. Besides, when you are raiding a 1 cup offer it doesn't matter if you 1,2 or 3 star.

I have to assume that the sweeper was intended for lower levels as it hasn't impacted air attacks at high level (4300+).

Because SC (and most for companies) will to cater to the majority, that majority is mostly comprised of casual and/or low-mid tier players

Those players cried and cried endlessly that air attacks were OP, not because they even used them to know if they were or not, but because the were attacked by a skilled attacker that knew how to properly deploy air attacks, and/or by watching youtube videos of 3 star attacks with lavaloon and formed their assumptions from that. A prime example is exactly this:

Every high level player that actually use(d) lavaloon knew that it was hardly a catch-all easy 3* everytime with them, they took a lot more skill to use properly than the casual players realized.

But I would also like to add that I do not think the air sweeper made much of a difference, we can still 3* with air raids, but we have to analyze our deployments a little differently while taking the sweeper into account. So I do not feel this past update made much of a difference with air attacks, but I do agree with you about ground attacks (at high levels) being underwhelming and what is should have been addressed instead.

But I would also agree with the people who complain about mass dragons vs th7's, because that is a little imbalanced and not much a th7 can do about it, but the OP is talking about high level bases with inferno's which air attacks are not overpowered in those cases.

a th 8 master 3 attacked me (whom I will soon revenge). My leaf blower prevented his lvl 2 dragon from destroying my DE storage, and him getting a 2 star. I was 1starred, but lost 1 cup, so that doesnt bug me. Basically what i mean is that the leaf blower is REALLY useful!

Not to go off the trail of this thread too much... I am at TH8 and I find it a bit discouraging that when I eventually upgrade my TH, 2 Stars will be considered a success and 3 stars are basically impossible, in regards to Wars

3 stars at TH9 basically impossible?

I dont see a problem if many th10s cant beat their mirror. I also have problems getting 2 stars on my mirror in most cases because I have 5 builders and enough gold so the defenses build faster than the lab is researching troops.

If you cant beat your mirror simply attack th9s or weak th10s and leave out the top guys. The clan that can 2 star further up is the better clan and will. The same way the clan that can 3 star further up will win in most cases. I dont think that max bases should be 3 stared, maybe not even 2 stared if the attacker is not extremely skilled. I am sick of the high requirements of elite clans to 3 star all th9s and also 3 star the lower half of the th10s while getting 2 stars in every other attack. This prevents many good attack strategies like GoWiPe only because they cant get 3 stars.

Probably so.

Especially since early/low TH9 should be getting 3 starred more often than not, which is what you would be after upgrading your TH.

A maxed TH9 may not get three starred by another TH9 near as often.

Actually, in both cases you want bases to have as much defense as possible. It is possible to get 100% of the clan experience by getting only 60% of the possible stars. With that in mind, there is no reason that any base needs to be able to be 3-starred by an equal level opponent. 3-starring should be only for when someone attacks a base that is weaker than their own. 1-starring should be easy. 3-starring should be unbelievably difficult (and ideally impossible against a fully maxed base of equal town hall level).

You are supposed to understand that the reason we spend years upgrading our bases and hundreds if not thousands of hours farming for loot is so that no one, under any circumstance, will ever be able to 3-star our bases. What is the point of spending all that time upgrading defenses if the defenses can't protect you? A maxed TH10 with a decent base design should never be 3-starred by anyone ever. That should be the reward for maxing your base.

Supercell was just thinking about a small (huge) payday. They needed to come out with a small update to milk money from gemmers. They will probably lose a ton of gemmers if they came out with a huge update that will force gemmers to shell out thousands of dollars to remain on top. They only do small incremental updates to milk money from users now.

I do not know why SC kills every successful attack strategy. They killed the hogs earlier when they introduced the inferno and make the king & queen unlurable. Now they are killing the Lavaloon :mad:

Necessary? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste.

Air Sweeper hasn't held me off from getting loot nor has it saved my base from losing any loot...

Just 2 starred a almost max base in our war (max heroes/defenses 3/4 zaps) with GoWiWiPe. Still seems more than possible to use ground attacks and I suspect that air attacks will still work ok when people get used to the sweeper. I just suck at air attacks so I can't really tell.

I'm starting to think everyone who says things like this is in a low level clan. Hogs are nowhere near dead. Chances are you've just never seen a very highly skilled attacker use a hog hybrid.

Hogs are definitely not dead. They may not be viable against a TH10 especially with multi target infernos, but they are alive and well from TH7-TH9, generally speaking.

I couldn't agree more with your post. We need more offense, especially at th 10 (I'm a 9 but its pretty obvious that defense is op at 10). It would be nice to see some decent new de troops in the next update, or maybe instead of nerfing the offense troops they could nerf inferno towers.. WHAT? NERF DEFENSE? UNHEARD OF! I'm kinda sick of these little updates here and there like the skeletons, extra traps, faster archer towers firing rate, smarter defense ai... its just annoying. I just don't want the game to be boring by the time I hit th 10.

That's the problem, it's fairly easy to 2 star, 3 star strategies are being killed off. 2 stars is way too easy, 3 stars way too hard.

You should not be able to 3 star max bases unless the design is really bad or you get really lucky. I don't know where this expectation that max bases should be 3 starred came from.

If the same thread is constantly being made doesn't that tell you there's something seriously broken with the game right now , defense is way to overpowered now with these update changes not jut with air sweeper but also how the ai troops behave now aswell



Also the guy above , there should be a way to 3 star max bases if u do your attack right it's what makes the game fun and challenging what's the point of having max troops if they can't get a 3 star , the whole fun of the game is about defence v attack smart defences against smart attacks and right now the defending is way easier and too OP

Can someone show me where I was being derogatory? I said you've probably never seen a very high level attacker use hogs. I'm not talking about experience points because anyone who puts enough time in the game can be a high level experience wise

I meant a high level attacker as in someone who's an elite level war strategist

You would make more of a point if you had a single thread with many posts, plus it keeps forums cleaner.
Maxed bases can still be three starred, but it is supposed to be hard to do it. Bases that practically give away two stars just to prevent the third also have to have some value right? Whats the point in designing a good base if anyone who just does a half-decent raid three stars?

Lol I joined a new clan 2 weeks ago and the level of gameplay is so different. The last clan I was in was a more casual clan that didn't know about thehulkfiles and OneHiveRaids. I was the only one doing shattered LaLoon war attacks while everyone stuck with GoWi variants

Now in the clan I'm in, I'm seeing surgical hog, HoLo, shattered LaLoon, HGH, etc.

No one in my old clan used any other composition than GoWiPe or GoWiWi because they thought all the other troops were useless

All I meant was not everyone is part of a clan with elite level war strategists. I've seen attacks using valks, loons, hogs, and a golem all mixed together. Attacks that don't have a popular name...just people truly tailoring their armies to each specific base

Yes, the air sweeper is certainly serving it's purpose, I used to easily 3 star same level (TH8) bases with the Dragloon attacks... now only 1 3 star attack in the last 3 clan wars.

Ok besides watching Youtube videos please show me how it was easy to three star bases with Dragloon. Quite frankly it wasn't easy. They listened to people with no real experience on the matter. Only overpowered attack was TH7 dragons.

Exactly-^^^^^ we war a lot but i find it hard to 3 star my mirror, i looked at some attack strats here but im not able to tree star every war. I think a lot of people are unable to 3 star their mirror, unles its a really bad base. I know for sure that someone who post a 3 star video das not show his 5 fails videos from his other attacks.

My farm base has not been attacked since air sweeper update and my warbase was not attacked bij air but two starred by ground troops.

There is absolutely no way that defence is overpowered at the top end of the game in fact quite the opposite defence could still do with a substantial buff! I am a lavaloon attacker and to be perfectly honest the introduction of the air sweeper has made no difference to my success rate in fact every base I attacked this morning ended up 2 starred relatively easy. What it has done is separate the air attackers with skill from those who just dump and hope, my most recent defences against this type of attacker have been wins. As far as I'm concerned this is how it should be! Why should you be able to get 2 and 3 star wins by just dumping your troops along one side of the base and hoping for the best?

In my clan in the last war we had 4 attacks that ended up as 3 stars and this is against max defence TH10 bases so it is still possible. In my opinion only the very best attackers should be able to 3 star a max def TH10 base in war a good attacker should be able to 2 star and a poor attacker might walk away with 1 star or 0 stars.

Yeah, but it should be posttible - and easier, ofcorse it has to go on skill too, but atm not even super skills can 3 star all mirrors

It's easy if you know how to do it. Try watching some of the YouTube videos and learn all the different strategies for using Dragloon. At TH7 and TH8 I estimate that I got 3 stars with dragloon about 90% of the time, with most of the failures were on max or near max TH8 bases.

I believe now that a max TH8 with good placement of air defenses and air sweeper is a very hard target for TH8 dragloon, but most are not max and generally have some weakness that can be exploited.

also its true..hogs aren't dead.. hogs are great to use ifor anythink below TH10 and especially if you spied the location of the bombs.


You can still use hogs on TH10 IF you are also a TH10 who has FREEZE spell to use on those pesky infernos

That's not always possible/optimal. E.g. for a max TH8, you can point it to blow over the ADs, weaken the side that it blows toward, and strengthen the side that is behind it. For a max TH8, that makes it even harder to take out the ADs, which is huge.

That said, from my experience, in most cases the air sweeper is not placed optimally, so it usually isn't hard to just hit it from behind. I actually had 2 bases in a row when I was farming with loonion where the air sweeper was just blowing over the exposed TH! What good is that! I took all their loot and left the TH standing.

Super skilled TH10 players can 3 star their mirror i have seen it done several times since the last update. At lower TH levels the skill to 3 star your mirror is progressively less but it still requires skill that in my experience the majority of clashers do not have!

Edit: I include myself as a player without the skill to regularly 3 star th10 bases in war, I have done it but its a very rare event! I am more of a 2 star pony which is enough in most clans to be considered a good attacker. At TH9 level though on my mini i can easily 3 star my TH9 mirror base in clan wars and i do this regularly with about a 75% success rate against max defence TH9

You have a good point, but I have found when using air attacks, it's better to attack the "stronger" side first.

I'm glad that you agree with me! :p

The game is what SC make it. You get as many stars as you can get in war. The game is no harder or easier for the other player/team, so no matter what SC does it's a fair fight. The best team wins if they have the most stars, whether it's 100 stars or 10.

I agree with OP that land attacks should be given more boost at higher levels.


BUT


I think the airsweeper is not that OP at all, it just now allows you to funnel even air attacks that will be done to your base like what you do with walls and so defense has more control over where his opponent drops his air troops. I think its nice I would prefer this than them adding another AD - NOW THAT WOULD BE IMBALANCE!!!

A smart defender will cover the weaker side of the base.

I saw plenty fail attacks, when people somehow didnt see the air sweeper.

The only imbalance that existed was TH7 vs mass dragon spam.. The easy fix would be to give TH7 the third AD that you get at TH8..

Problem solved. Then you would actually get variety in attacks at TH7.

3 starring th8 as a th8 used to be ridiculously easy, you couldn't spam the drags like at th7 but with proper pathing almost any th8 would be 3 starred by drags/dragloon

That's would just create more imbalance. settle with the two ads be thankful of your hair dryer and then put your teslas in the corner

A third AD would help, but even that wouldn't be enough. A TH7 just doesn't have enough other defenses to stop a mass drag attack, even with a third, relatively low level AD. A TH8 can't even stop a goo dragloon attacker until they get a good AD666 configuration.

Something really needs to be done about TH7 mass drag raids. I have a TH7 low account, and wars really aren't much of a challenge. I can 3 star any TH7 without even thinking about it, and it's not much harder for about half of the TH8s. In that clan, which is all TH6-8, with the exception of 1 TH9, I can usually easily 3 star all but the top 1-3 bases, and I'm #7 in the ranking.

TH7 is supposed to be 3 starred by other TH7s, learn to deal with that and makes sure to 3 star all the other TH7s as well in the bottom of the map.

Our TH7s are also 3 stared by dragons, no big deal.

The fact that the base is your mirror DOES NOT necessarily mean it is equivalent to your base.

We go over this all the time on here...the matchmaking system does not pair #1 base to #1 base, and #2 base to #2 base, and #3 base to #3 base, on down the line, it pairs a CLAN up with another CLAN. Your mirror may be stronger or weaker than you.

Additionally, your ranking on the war map is based on your defensive/base strength, your matchmaking weight includes heroes and troop levels...so the order your clan ranks on the battle map will not necessarily be same order as your weight for war matchmaking.

Probably if you can almost always three star your mirror you are a TH8 or lower, or maybe a TH8.5, and you have most likely upgraded your offense/heroes to a 'higher level' than your defenses.

You mention hogs a lot.....Uhh maybe because mass hogs shouldn't even 1 star th10 bases. That's how it SHOULD be. If defense is so OP, then look at the top players' defense wins and come back.

I've heard the same thing over and over. I spent the better part of my 600 cw stars in TH8 getting three stars with dragloon twice a week. Its not quite as simple as watching a youtube video and proclaiming it easy to three star. After decembers update it was a huge change to dragons. People didn't walk over upgraded TH8s. Its the new twitch culture of gamers. You watched a video and assume that's how the game is played.

Who said they get 3 starred every time? AD666 makes it difficult to 3 star IF the base layout is good and the other defenses are upgraded to near max. That's why I said that my record was probably 90%. Most of that estimated 10% was against max/near max TH8s, which is quite difficult if the base has a decent layout.

A well laid out TH8 with all three AD at level 6, all five archer towers at level 9/10, and all three tesla at lvl4-6, is going to see it's share of dragloon misses (1*-2*)

The higher lvls are meant to be hard enough to separate between the best players. Is the game supposed to allow for everyone to 3 star every time? Perhaps you are avg. deal with it

If air attacks are very dominant in high levels then it should only mean that it is stronger than land attacks.

I'd say buff ground troops or nerf the walls. Because seriously a base with high level walls and with good layout is nightmare for ground attacks whereas air attacks would simply bypass them lava walls that you have farmed for so long.

Oh and I forgot about inferno towers. So op them towers yes?

I think the real effect of air sweeper is to eliminate lavaloon at th10.

At th7 and 8, a single air sweeper won't do ♥♥♥♥ against air attacks, but at th10, two well placed Max air sweepers can easily ruin lavaloon attacks.

I used to 2 or 3 star medium th10s routinely in wars, now most of my lavaloon attacks struggle to reach 2 star.
