I'm on my way to TH9 right now and have my minions at lvl 4 and balloons at lvl 5. I had been planning on having my first upgrade in the lab be loons lvl 6 so I could use loonion to farm DE. However now that the Air Sweeper has come out do you think this is still a good choice or should I do something like giants to lvl 6 or arch to lvl 6 to help with farming?
I find giants much more efficient for farming, but balloons are a great choice as well. I don't think the sweeper is a huge setback to DE farming with loons. Just consider the direction it is pointing before you drop your army.
Balloons should be the very first thing you upgrade at th9. By far the best unit in the game. Minion levels don't really matter that much and the sweeper is a novelty item. I'd do
Loons
hogs
Hound
Witch
Golem
Giant
valk
Barb
Archer
Hound and witch be they only have one level to max
Valks are becoming my favorite power unit. I've been wrecking maxed 9s and 9.5s with VaLoon, GoVaLo, VaHo, and VaHoLo
Now that King doesn't automatically Agro AQ CBs and Shattered have become much harder and less effective than Valk kill squads IMHO
When I got to TH9 I chose to get my farming troops up first, then loons. I'm able to farm plenty of DE using barch at th9. I've got my AQ to lvl 10 not using Loonian, and just finished my loons.
Loons were my 1st Lab Upgrade at TH9, Giants 2nd.
When I go to TH9 on my 2nd account in a month or so, I'll either do:
Farming:
1)Giants (L6 Giants with Heal Spells is dominant vs TH8s and some 9s)
2)Barch (L6 Giants and L6 Barch is very strong)
3)Loons (If you need that DE or big storage raids, Loons can get it but much longer time to wait than Barch)
4)Minions (BAM or Loonion is very effective, but takes DE and more time to cook)
War:
1)Loons: Laloon and hybrid versions is still dominant
2)Hogs (hybrid hog attacks (if maxed) can still destroy most TH9s)
3)Witches/Hounds (order depends if you're more ground or air attacks)
4)Hounds/Witches
Giants for farming, loons for fun.
Its up to you..
Giants are great for farming but loons are just as good plus they are the most versatile unit in the game. You can add 8-10 loons to any army and it will increase your chance of three staring it 10 fold
I did loons first in the lab and do not regret it at all. However, this was before the air sweeper came into existence. I do not know how badly loons will suffer now, but I will tell you this: upgrade your loons ASAP! Why? Because they can be used for farming, pushing and wars. Even if they are nerfed now by the new air defense, the stat change from lv 5 to 6 is arguably the largest of any unit in the game.
Yeah! I did loons first as soon as I hit TH9 and Very happy with them even now that the sweeper is out. it doesn't really effect on Balloonion Raids
I did loons first and don't regret it at all. I am still using loons for my de farming while I do my hero grind.
Level 6 balloons are awesome.
Thanks everyone for the responses. Seems like loons are getting a lot of love. Loons will probably help my clan more as they are almost all TH8 and no one has lvl 6 loons yet so they could be a nice cc donation for TH8 dragloon.

If u use giants, then do giants first, u should also ask urself, "What troop do I usually get raided with by a TH9 (as a TH8)", I answered myself with giants. I did loonz pretty early into TH9, and I don't really use them, I usually donate them to clan TH8 members for their dragon raids, or just do a loonion raid every while when batching gets boring.

Barbarians
Loonz

I use loons every single day. My gibarch is still level 5 and does absolutely fine. The minute I struggle to get loot I will upgrade my farming troops but until then, loons, hounds, hogs, golems, witches, spells etcQuote:
