Hi everybody!
I just want to share with you my opinion about the new matchmaking algorithm; especially the way this changed heavily my approach to the game! I will also provide some examples.
About me
I've been playing Clash of Clans since June (almost 1 year) and I easily understood that the players are "divided" by two categories:
- Those looking for "Glory" and competitiveness and try to reach the highest number of trophies and face strong opponents.
- Those playing as "Farmers" looking for resources (don't matter the League, they care only about loots).
I belong to the latest category. I'm a TH9 with the aim to finish my level 10 walls. My army is made up by Giants, Wallbreakers and Archers and I hold my trophy count between 1300 - 1700.
Before the update
Over the course of two hours attacking I could achieve about 3/4 MLN of gold and 2/2.5 MLN of elixir. My opponents were mainly:
- Inactive TH7 and TH8 (full collectors).
- TH8 and TH9 with good loot inside their storages.
Using the army composition I wrote above I could get a good balance between
Training time /
Elixir spent /
Loot gained.
What about now?
The situation now is completely different, but I want to show you through actual images.
following there are screenshots of the very first three opponents I found.
Note: Currently I have 1200 trophies.

Attack those players with the army I wrote above means just a thing = suicide! So I managed to completely change my army but honestly I think that each possible TH9 army will be useless against level 3 Inferno Tower.
Anyways those are my attempts:
- Barbarian-Archers: Fail
- Giants-Healer: Fail
- Ballon-Minion-Lavahound: Win (but trashed due to the highest time and elixir costs...It's about farming not trophy)
- Ballon-Minion: Average Win (I can get enough loot to afford some upgrade and troops training)
Are "farmers" died?
To be honest I really don't know how other people reacted to this update. My opinion is that tactical attack such as "Barbarian-Archers", "Giants-Healers" or any attack aimed exclusively to loots are no longer effective (or less than before).
After the update
Over the course of two hours attacking I could achieve about 1.5/2 MLN of gold and 0.5/1 MLN of elixir. My opponents were mainly:
- Maxed TH9 with good loot inside their storages.
- "Attempt" to attack some TH10 with EPIC FAILS.
My new army is made up by Balloons and Minions and my trophy count is about 1100 - 1200. As you can see my gain is very low, this mainly due to a very high
Training time and
Elixir spent compared to the
Loot gained.
Conclusion
I think the Supercell's aim was really wise but the way they try to achieve that is COMPLETELY wrong. Why? Here comes 3 points:
- Attack weak player? The only thing leading a TH8/TH9 to attack a lower TH7 player is the inactivity and I don't think inactive player would recriminate about those attacks (inactive player is a good source of income for almost every TH). What about active players? Well, the loot inside the storages of full active player is too low (due to the TH difference) and would not provide a good ratio elixir spent / gained.
- Leagues? What are they? The league concept together with the trophy count has become completely useless except for the loot bonus. I cannot find difference between Silver 2 and Crystal 2 League and, obviously, the way to get trophy has become really difficult for TH9 players already from Silver League (Most of the opponents I succeeded to get 2 stars gave to me about 9 Trophy). I think that a level 40 player has more chances to reach the Master League compared to a level 80/90 player.
- 1, 2, 3...Someone is raiding your village! This is the most common message I get from my phone:
I really don't know why but seems the update increased dramatically the number of attack from opponents (Yesterday 5 in 10 minutes). This influenced especially the revenges. I will give you a handshake if you find the exact moment that he doesn't have the shield! :facepalm:
