When you're farming for dark elixir, most other resources are a secondary (for me at least). I like two wizards, clan castle and two semi protected air defense towers (to ward off dragons and healer giants). Then try and distract goblins with resources all around the outside and stagger your t junctions especially well to prevent wall readers and raged goblins going straight through your storage. You can upgrade your storage for the additional hit points, but not essential.
Raiding
Trophies...I'm not excellent at raiding, but 1500 was pretty nice. Just make sure you've got level 3 spell factory before you start (for triple lightning) otherwise it takes along time...I would know. :)
For TH7 DE, anywhere around 1250+ should be fine (Trophies).

There are plenty of DE guides - just do a search and you should fine them easily. But a quick, general note - while BK is a lot of fun, it's more of a nice to have, so make sure you don't neglect your other upgrades. First and foremost, make sure the lab is always busy upgrading troops, the extra camp/barrack up ASAP, and your splash defense should be priority as well. Only when you're good on resources for your other upgrades, should you focus on farming DE.
