I play clash 18 hrs a day and have spent hundreds of dollars on a game i love.
If players are given the ability to change their names, all that will do is allow the "bad apples" of the game to begin trolling annonymously again. When i see that happen, i will be hanging up my coc hat.

Agree that this is an issue, but waiting to see how SC handles it.
We keep a "banned" list of troll users not to let into the clan. Definitely a problem if they can change their name to get back in ...
However ...
Something as simple as "500 gems to change your name" keeps this from being abusable by all but the most devoted trolls.
So ... sitting back and waiting to see what the "cost" of the "name change" feature is before worrying too much about it.
I would guess it will cost us gems to be able to update our names. Or maybe we'll only be able to update our names once every so often. I doubt that it'll come without some sort of throttle.
I guess I don't see how this cannot be easily remedied by the same tools everyone preaches when someone comes up with reducing hoppers or people leaving during clan wars.
I feel like trolls are a small subsection of the community, and the only people who have significant problems with trolls are people who aren't doing what they already have available to reduce/eliminate the problem.
Okay, name change goes through, set clan to invite only, look at the persons stats and TH level first, decide if you are going to accept them. Opt them out of the first war, see how they respond. If they ask for elder/co immediately or high level troops for a simple raid, boot them...
I guess it doesn't seem complicated to me...
The rumors I have heard is that it will be free but a one time change. Note I used the word rumors. I have heard it a lot from many directions, but all of those directions were in the end rumors no matter how sure the source was that they knew for sure.Quote:

I think we'd be hard pressed to see much trolling with name changes, given you can only do it once, and then stuck with it. So going from a bad name to a worse name wouldn't exactly be in the best personal interest of the player.
If anything, it would be someone making a troll name right off the bat, if they are making a new second account, and then change it later when they are done... or forced to change it from being reported.

I think he was trying to overstate his "value" to SC in that "If they do X, I am gone, and BTW I am a very special player you cannot afford to lose."
Name changing will change very little in the grand scheme of things. I am excited because when I started the game, I chose a craptastic name because I start a lot of ipad games and never follow through, well here I am two years later...
If you leave, SC won't miss you, but the trolls will have won, don't let the trolls win.

Gem bought resources likely don't get counted as 'grabbed' from someone else. Though, I don't know how someone could buy all that gold though to get those upgrades.
As far as I have seen, its speculated that players can change their name only once. Maybe afterwards it'll cost gems. No one is for sure yet though. I certainly hope there is a way to tell who is who as well, as I have a list of banned clashers for my clan too.
The bottom line is that whether or not we agree (I don't but others do) they are indeed going to allow it so that is our new reality. The only smart thing to do is accept it and start figuring out how to deal with it. Maybe there will be a lot of problems, maybe not. Either way its our job as players to deal with whatever challenges the game presents.
The OP might as well uninstall his base now since the path is clear. Please put collectors and storages out fist though. I hope everyone sold their stock today so they don't get burned in the market crash when he goes.
