Once defenses are destroyed, shouldn't hogs be able to redirect their attacks to attacking Heroes? Instead, they just let themselves get wiped out, even if the BK or AQ is right next to them. Is this really how these units should behave?

It's a frustrating thing about Hogs, personally I think they should not be doing that.
In typical circumstances if an enemy hero is nearby [even an annoying skeleton] all other troops, barbs, archers, pekkas, wizards etc chase them down to kill them.
But Hogs...even with no defenses left ignore them?
In my opinion that's an AI bug.
Agreed. Once defenses are all down, they should behave like "Any target" troops, which all defend themselves when being attacked by Heroes.
Wait... Last I saw in war, Hog Riders would put the hammer down on anyone attacking them, once all defence buildings were destroyed. Are you saying they ignore them now?! :saywhat:
Did see a few AI glitches like that before, but was with Dragons not doing anything to CC archers, but that was months ago.
Usually, being the 'nearest target', Heros attacking them would be the first thing to get pummeled.
Also, this best put in the Bugs & Problems forum.
Getting some recording of what happened would be preferable.

Wait! I think I know what might be up with that! Check to see if the damage was below 51% when Hog Riders finish thier defence attacks. Maybe they don't attack back because of a flaw on the AI code 'knowing' there is still defences left, but can't see them, since there isn't enough base damage to force the Hidden Tesla towers into view. (which requires like 52% or more damage to make them all pop up regardless of not being triggered yet)
If not all of the defences are down, the AI code may not let them give them the go ahead to switch to any target while the Hidden Tesla towers are still hidden. Just a guess, but if I were the AI coder, I'd check for that scenario.
Damage was at 48%, but all 4 teslas were down. First the hogs took out two storages while the AQ killed several of them, then the remaining hogs attacked the town hall while the BK killed the rest of them.
Yes, there is something strange since the last Mainteanance I assume.
I love Hogs and I´m used to them since TH 7(I refused to use those boring Mass-Dragon attacks), now I´m a mid TH 8 with lv 3 hogs(soon lv 4) and yes, normally they defendes themselves after the base defense where down.
Last war, about 10-12 Hogs where left after defense where down, then they jumped to the CC and the king was next to it. The hogs totally ignored the King?!
Next surprise! The hogs jumped on to destroy the rest of the base, but the King even followed them at least three times further afar than his normal range. I know the king sometimes goes further afar than his 9 tiles-range, but I never saw him walking that far away from his place than this time!
He managed to kill nearly all hogs alone, except 2, and they only survived because my Magicians seemed to be surprised how dumb those Hogs react and saved them bravely by sizzling the over-industrious king with their lightnings! :D:p
If that wasn´t just a bug(What I assumed back then), Hogging will be a bit more difficult in the future. I would´nt appreciate that... Yes, if you know how to Hog, it´s a save 3 star attack, but not that OP than Mass-Drgons at TH 7, especially if CC is hard to lure, or there are too many possible spots in the village where GB´s or even DGB´s could be.

Sorry for poor quality. It's from an iPhone 5 and I uploaded it directly. If someone take tell me how to improve the quality, I'll do that. But it still shows what I'm talking about: first the hogs take out two storages while the Archer Queen kills several of them. Then they attack the Town Hall while the Barbarian King kills the rest of them. This should not happen! After defenses are down, Hog Riders should prioritize attackers over buildings, just like other "Any Target" units.
I think it was the last update. They have always been a 'favors defenses' troop like giants, loons, and golems. But once defenses are destroyed it used to be whatever was closest. Now its only whatever buildings are closest. Heroes they will not attack until there is nothing else to attack and I agree that is a new nerf they slipped in.
Not sure why. its not like hogs were the all powerful answer to everything attack anymore. I get why they nerfed them originally, but this latest nerf I don't think was necessary.
I think (based on this and some other thins we have seen lately) in general they are trying to get away from three stars being the standard everyone should expect in war. (and lets face it, most of are in a '3 stars or its a fail' frame of mind, I sure am) Now they want it to be more of a spread from 0-3 even if guys are attacking down some.
Anyone else think this should be posted in the Bugs forum? It didn't occur to me when posting it that it might not have been an intended change.
I'd post it in general but asks the question "do you think this is a hog nerf?" Not exactly a big or an issue in my op. Just some nerf they slipped in

Hogs will kill Heroes if the Heroes are the next-closest thing immediately after a building is destroyed. But they will not stop attacking a building in order to attack Heroes instead, which is how every "Any Target" unit behaves and how Hogs should behave after all defensive structures are destroyed.
As a note, first attack on our clan was a Hog attack, and they attacked properly. But will keep an eye out for oddities.
The BK isn't a problem. Kill the queen before the hog attack.

While I agree, if you are able to beat down every defenses while the heroes are smacking away at you [which is the harder way to Hog mind you]. Hogs should at least fight back at the heroes once the defenses are down.Quote:
