Is the Surgical Hog Attack Only for Elite Clans or Can Anyone Do It?

I'll preface this by saying I hope the answer is the latter...

If you're part of a war clan you're probably aware of the Surgical Hog attacks being used by Reddit Troopers, Clashheads, Clashnerds, Exclusive Empire & all the other top CW Clans at the moment. However unusually for top Clan War attacks there are very few (zero?) practical, YouTube explanations of how to execute this attack yourself. That means it is either too complicated for 99% of us to learn or the 1% that knows how are hoarding it for themselves.

Curious to find out which, I sat down and made a guide which will hopefully shed some light on this dominant but mysterious attack. I'd love to know if you guys think this is achievable for the masses....

I think you know the answer. Most wars we face people do gowiwi, or laloon attacks. Little do people know of more effective war strategies like goho, cb, shattered, surgical hogs. Unless we get a good matchup :)

Before I was a th10 I always used loons in conjunction with hogs and a few troops to kill the cc and archer queen. Once you get the hang of it, it is a very easy strategy. Now as a th10, th9's are too easy and are almost all a garunteed three star. Use a few golems witches and wizards and then the rest hogs and it's an easy three stars. Practice and preparation is key, good luck!

He's not asking how to do the attack, he put a video of doing the attack....he's asking if you think people could learn these war strategies. And you shouldn't brag about hitting th9s being th10.

Check "The Hulk Files" youtube. It is decent at walking thru the strats with multiple vids on different bases. Very useful.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing it's because it's a rather straightforward strategy that's strongly reminiscent of both Lavloon-style attacks, where you drop calculated squads of loons to overwhelm defences, and, of course, the GoHog strat. There are so many videos out there already which use these principles that the YouTubers might not think of Surgical Hog as being unique enough to warrant its own series of videos.

To answer your question, though, yes. If you can GoHog, you can Surgical. I've heard of it being used with screening giants too, but that would absolutely depend on the spread of defences.

Thanks that's an interesting take. I certainly agree it is similar in execution to GoLava's rotational deployment and the army composition is virtually identical to HoGoWiWi but being someone with a good deal of experience with both I'm fairly certain that Surgical Hogs deserve their own guide. In fact with more bases moving to prevent Lavaloon strategies, if I were a betting man I'd say that in a month or two this attack will everywhere.

how nice of u that u actually consider us a top war clan :p but sure all these strategies can be used by anyone, just take time to master and be consistent with them.

CB = GoLaLoon
CB = 1 Golem + Heroes to take out an AD, AQ and CC.

Shattered also = GoLaLoon
Shattered = 2 Golems + Heroes to take out 2 ADs, AQ and CC

It means targeting individual defenses with each hog, rather than just dropping a pack of them.

So basically it's like surgical balloons but with hogs?

Very nice strategy. Thanks for sharing. But, is there a certain troop/hero level requirement for this attack to be effective to get a 3 star? Like using this on a semi-developed th9. Is it necessary to have level 20+ heroes, maxed hogs, level 4 golems and maxed heal spell?

Good question. No, in essence it's the method of deployment and distribution of resources which beats the base. Just pick a base appropriate to your level. The one exception would be hogs, I'd max them before using this. Request the highest level Golem you can within your clan and get practicing.

Excellent video. I have watched a lot of your videos and you inspired me to start going for 3 stars at TH9. I have 3 starred the last 5 bases I have gone against now, using the different methods that you and a few other have opened my eyes to. I never thought it was possible to get 3 stars on max or near maxed th9s, but if you do it right, it almost looks too easy sometimes lol. Thank you sir, for your time to do this! No more gowipe for 2 stars!!

You are also a very good commentator, its hard to speak properly when you aren't talking to anyone directly and most people just mumble like they are talking to themselves.

Definitely trying this next war. I usually get 2 stars every war with GoWiPe but recently have been wanting to aim higher for that 3 star. Although I did 3 star a TH 9 with gowipe last war.

Very welcome my friend. GoWiPe is consistent & is also vital at TH10 but developed TH9's do have quite a few exciting alternatives. Right now I think this is 'the next big thing'.

So the question is build troops for this strategy as a new TH9 or build troops for the lavaloon strategies as a new th9? Both require heroes to be up higher that's for sure, but should you be putting your DE into hogs or your queen right off the bat? Laloon is an elixer sink for a young TH9 and a time commitment as well. You are talking 1.6 mil lab upgrade plus 6 mil for loons plus another 2.75 mil plus 3.5 mil to get your lava hounds. That's 17 days of dark barrack upgrades and 5 for lab plus 10 for loons. Getting your hogs to lv5 is roughly the same cost as adding 2 level to your AQ, but you've got 5 days of lab upgrade plus 14 more days of hog time.

When you get right down to it, which gives you more bang for the buck? The advanced strategies are very time consuming just to be able to use them. So which should players be leaning towards right out of the gate?

Gen that's a pretty interesting question. I guess the answer is probably dependant on the preference of the individual. However two thoughts; firstly bases are certainly changing to combat LavaLoon so I think Surgical Hogs probably have longer 'shelf life'. Secondly, the core principles of rotational deployment are relevant to both Surgical Hogs and GoLava, so I don't think you can really lose whichever way you go.

Thank you for taking the time to make that video. CWs are very repetitive for me-I just gowiwi every time. And only get two stars. This incorporates my fav war strat (gowiwi) and hogs into a very strong attack that is capable of three stars. I have told my clan about this thread and they are checking it out. Many thanks!

so earlier you recommended having lvl 5 hogs for this... do lvl 5 hogs rlly make that much of a difference? I have lvl 4 hogs and tried this in my last war but was unsuccessful. I wasn't sure if it was because of my execution or my hog lvl, my kill squad did what was intended and took out a double bomb set/cc/AQ. I put 3-4 hogs on each of the surrounding defenses but it wasn't quite enough. Granted I might have been able to place heal spells a bit more efficiently, but overall it seems I did exactly what u demonstrated.

So back to my question, do lvl 5 hogs really make the difference in this strategy? should I hold off on this attack till I upgrade them?

Penta LavaLoon is the answer to any war base earlier.
A Meta Base is the answer to Penta LaLoon.
CB LaLoon and Surgical Hoggging is answer to all meta bases.

Thanks Dart, very informative, just did my first 3 star on a max TH9 out of war. Very hard to do with only 30 secs to plan. You have now taught me 2 new attacks that I can use in war.

It's actually a very simple attack. The only downside is that if you don't want to lure, you need both heroes 99% of the time. You also need bases with spread point defense in the outer/second ring layer.

It's not necessarily true when people say that you need op heroes to use this attack. I did an attack on a decently leveled base that had Rancid's war design (skulls, xbows 2, th8-th9 point defense) with level 1 golems, a level 5 queen, and a level 10 king. The rage spell on your KS definitely helps quite a bit.

I agree it's simple. The purpose of the thread was really to set a challenge for people reliant on LavaLoon to branch out to a new, ground-based strategy. With the addition of the leaf blower I think that's now more important than ever.

Thanks for making a guide about Surgical Hogs, you explain it very good. But I don't agree with what you said about the elite warclans keeping the strat for themselves. Multiple youtubers have shown this strategy and especially Jake from OneHive explained very well how this strategy works, although he didn't make a seperate guide about it.

High level heroes are most noticable when you need to go deep into a base to get rid of the queen or you have a lot of the base that needs to be taken out before the hogs.

Still always doable, just become higher risk of a failed attack.

You don't need high level heroes, you just need to attack the level of base your heroes can handle. Conservatively, a fully maxed TH9 requires 15/15. However attack well and it could be done with weaker.

My hogs are level 4 is there any point in using this strategy with them at that level? Usually matched against max th8's or low to mid th9's

I think that i need to uograde hogs...still lvl1. I wish i would upgrade them instead minions :confused:

Give it a try out of war bit certainly upgrade to max hogs asap.

I have been doing gowihog and goho so far but after I saw it yesterday I tried it on a th9 with 30/30 heroes in war and walls of 8/9 and got 99% 1 star 5 secs more I had 3stars.my heroes BTW r 6/4 so very gud start for me Thx for the guide
