Depends on your situation. If you're rushed, keep em all down.
I have never once kept a builder free and neither should you.
Just do walls when you get a free builder before starting the next upgrade.
Having a builder sleep doesn't make any sense when you have things to upgrade.
Then when all your upgrades are done, grind them out before upgrading the townhall. (and during)
No doubt.
I farm 10-15M resources per day. Have to keep one builder free.
Keeping all builders working on upgrades is for casual clasher.
I'm in the same position, for my last month at th9 I kept a builder free as upgrades were far too long for me to be sitting on full storages (I left canons and teslas till last).Quote:

No, just fill up your storages and collectors with loot then wait it out.
If you war, then you will want to focus on walls second only to your offensive upgrades. They are a good gold dump while you wait for your racks camps lab and spell factory complete and especially until your next level of war troops finish in the lab.
Before th8 it doesn't make sense. The upgrade times are short enough you can schedule builders to be free regularly. At th8 and 9 upgrade times get very long. You need a builder free to keep your walls upgrading.

If you farm enough for a few walls a day then yes it's worth it to keep a builder free, but if you're a casual player that doesn't farm too much, keep all builders busy.
I always kept 1 free and had full Legos/100 lavas done by the time my defences were done.
It all depends on what kind of clasher you are. If you're an everyday sort of clasher then don't save one; they should all be at work. If you are more on the hardcore side.. definitely keep one sleeping. If you don't then you'll just be wasting time with your storages full.
You could be like me and have 4-5 free for walls :smirk:
If you find yourself sitting on maxed storages while waiting for the next builder to finish, then it would be more productive to leave a builder for walls. I started to leave a builder for walls through mod th8, when I had some crystals and pinks. I finished all my defenses at th9 with 4 builders, and finished all level 8 walls at the same time the last defense was finishing. So it's safe to say if I hadn't left a builder, I probably would have been finishing level 7 walls instead of level 8. I left a free builder through all of th9, and managed to farm all legos and lavas in two and a half months. Before all defence were finished. If I reverse the roll I would have had all defenses finished and worked on walls with five remaining builders.
Just leave a builDer, mate.
