Ruled out items

Ok so we (the forum regulars) get sick to death of these, but in the next updated a ruled out item becomes a new feature (ok so its not a soul destroying ruled out item, just a name change to your callsign), but my point now is:

Is it worth just saying to people sorry son ruled out read the stickies yada yada yada...

Or should old items get dredged back up, old threads revived, new debates on old hashed out items.

Should ruled out items now get deleted or re-debated and reconsidered.

Apologies if this thread sounds a bit trollish, but I am wondering where we go from now...

I think that ruled out ideas should not be reconsidered.

I tend to agree, but it seems like supercell see merit in some of them and perhaps they need to be relooked at or reworked to see if they can fit in as a game improvement.

Agree. SC mods and maybe employees read the forums(i hope). Every idea that comes here are discussed and debated, scrutinized for pros and cons. If SC thinks they should be implemented, we dont have much choice but to bear it and see what comes of it. If it turns out to be a good addition to the game then whoopee! But if it results in disastrous effects for the game, they're the only people to blame.

In the meantime lets just do what we do to try to help improve this game that we love, yes?

A different term should be used besides 'currently ruled out'.

In function, 'ruled out' means that the idea has a 99% chance of never being used (maybe 97%-98%, idk how many 'ruled out' ideas got added after being declared 'ruled out'; but yes, the percentage is more or less accurate from what I see), and all talk should be halted on it. But those 1%-2% exception cases mess that up, and people gloss over the legaless word play the have in the sticky thread about ruled out ideas still having a chance to be used, if it does seem like a good idea.

What should be done is have two lists; a suggested talking point list, and a list of topics to not focus on. Anything not on those lists are still welcome of course.

Supercell is the one we are making these ideas for, and they are the ones taking notes. If they feel as though a topic has been ran into the ground, regardless of merit, they should say, 'Enough of this. Let's focus efforts on something else.' It is thier forum, and thier right to put in such rules. However for PR sake, they really should post why common ideas are not to be talked about anymore. It would help the forum to self police if it had something solid to work with.

Ideas that do have merit, but are talked about in circles until people up chuck, should be put into somekind of poll or separate comment section, to still allow people to voice any support they have for it. This way, Supercell will have feedback as to which idea they should prioritize over others.

No. The vast majority of them have been ruled out for very good reasons. Reasons that still exist no matter how many times they are discussed.

If somebody has come up with a genuinely unique way to compensate for the reasons why an item is ruled out I am very open to rehashing it. Much like trying to engineer around thy limitations of physics, it is very difficult to find a white or even workably gray answer out of a flat black barrier reason.

I do think it is past time for the ruled out/under consideration sticky to be updated though. Just that would help us a lot.

Honestly I think quite a few "ruled out" ideas are considered by SC, they just put them as ruled out to get people to shut up about them and stop clogging the forums. And even that doesn't work. I may be wrong, but I think the fact that a ruled out idea is being added is proof enough that they consider some of the ruled out ideas.

I don't think that's the case, I think if they were considering it they would be put in the being considered pile so people shut up about it (which we all know even then wouldn't work).

What I would love to see is more moderating in this forum to help alleviate the countless useless threads on ruled out items and a sub-forum for considered ideas where players could add their input to the considered ideas to help Supercell in their development of those ideas should the be working on them.

We've already tried posting ideas to the forum staff on how we thing they could improve things, like this old thread (Ruled Out Thread Handling: Suggestions, Public Announcement, and Mod Reminder), but we still haven't even gotten one peep from Mods since. I got a private message about one doing something, and still haven't seen it. :( (not saying who, since it would be rude and unfair, because they do seem like they are a good Mod, but likely forgot or got busy with other things)

Its their way of saying to us, "we heard you, we have thought about it and as things stand today we don't want to do it and are asking you to not gum up the forum with it"

I agree that some might come back some day. But we should still respect their wish to not gum up the forum with it. The guys that are not respecting that wish are preventing other ideas from getting fair airplay.

Some ruled out ideas have very good reasons behind them and those reasons get provided. Sometimes an OP does say "thanks for educating me and good point" but more often than not they start shooting the messenger or simply refusing to accept certain truths that would mean that they can't have what they personally want. "The world is flat!! How do I know this? Because what I want depends on it being flat."

My own observation is that 90% of new submitters have their focus and understanding on only their own personal need and have never taken the step to evaluate the game as a whole and consider how what they want would fit into that. (Or they do understand but don't care because they want something anyway) That has close to 90% of them thinking that the other 10% is just being negative and so the forum gets gummed up with the arguments.

For now my own feeling is that ruled out ideas should not be discussed. I do however wish that the list could be updated more often, even if no changes are needed still a date stamp the says when they last looked over that list and evaluated that everything there should still be there. (and if they are having second thoughts move it to the 'under consideration' list where it would then be fair game.) it doesn't take long for a person to read down that list so I think a monthly review is reasonable, no more than a quarterly. if we were to pull a suggestion from this thread it would be that.
