SC Remove all flags!!!

As much as I hate to say it, SC should (actually NEEDS) to remove ALL national flags. Because SC implemented some but then realized they cause server issues, they stopped adding them. My suggestion if for SC to completely remove all the national flags. That way people wont continue complaining and asking for flags that are never going to come.

Either Option 1 or 2
1. You get a refund
Or
2. You can keep your flag, except no knew flags can be purchased

I agree with this. It would allow for Supercell to have much more server space for better things.

You mean client app space? Server doesn't hold the graphic, your device holds it. All the server has to do is write down the object number and location on your account. Organized inventory data like that uses a very very small amount of computer space to record.

What I see as the real issue is graphic library bloat. Sure, lets say you put in all.. what? 200+ national flags? And just the flag objects, with the flag poll as one static graphic object to put it on, to save space.

Ok, so you have 200+ tiny animated gif files, which basicly means you have one flag with 6-8 picture frames. So, low estimate of 1,200 image frames.

Now think about that.. How many frames are needed for each troop or building? Likely 3-4 movement and 3-4 for attacks. Then multiply that by how many directions they face, divided by 2. since they mirror the same sprite so it faces the opposite direction to save space... So by 3? 6 frames times times 3, so 18 (off the cuff) picture frames for a barbarian.

Anyway, someone can do the exact numbers, but the point is that just looking at how many image frames there are for core game graphics verses having all of the national flags graphics, you've now overshadowed the core graphics library with just flags. Flags that aren't that important in game play.

Best I can see is to just have static flags or banners, which would cut the frame count tremendously, and could allow some form of national flags to be put in game; but as they are, flapping in the wind, it just seems silly to bloat the graphics library with it. Lag? moot point for most devices. Server Lag? Not how things work. Too big to be put on most devices? Moot point with current devices usually being used.

So it boils down to optimal app size and organization, which still is important. If you want to make whoever does your app uploading to customers happy with you, an app that isn't bloated with unnecessary stuff will help reduce download traffic.

Remove all national flags or make all of them available.

I think it is better to just put static flags.

If national identity is really important for some people, let them have it. I know supercell wants to make evryone happy, its just that they cant do it yet.

So here's what i propose. Dont know if its plausible. Correct me if im looking at this the wrong way.

Let the static banners or flags be hung on the side of townhalls. If a player hasnt bought any, maybe it would be displayed as a window or, idk, a white template, or anything that isnt complex. When a player wants to buy a flag, he can do so and its automatically placed on that space. Just like how c.c.s display clan banners.

I agree. No more flags. When I am on facebook and Supercell asks what lv is your clan or what is your favorite troop, I am tired of seeing memes and request updates. i want to read the real comments. I like some memes, but after seeing them a few times, I get tired of them. Ive seen the Did you say hogrider meme, and rage spell lv 999 and such and the same pictures over and over and over again. I want to read the real comment which actually answer the question.

He is thinking of other people....every single second someone requests a flag for their country. Make it so either people who have bought it can keep theirs but no more are available in the store, or just get rid of them all together and allow players a small refund.

Although it's nice to show some patriotic pride or nationalistic narcissism, the need for flags doesnt' contribute to the game. And it would definitely slow down the number of posts asking for flags. But think about the people that don't use the forums, they'd be pretty upset, especially those that are patriotic. I say they should leave it for now or add more flags.

I have four flags as an homage to where my Co-Leader and I are from, its a nice little touch to have in the game that I would hate to have to give up. They are placed beside my builders huts as a cute little aside. If your going to cut the flags, I feel that then ALL decorations should then be cut. They don't provide anything to the game aside from aesthetics and it would be unfair to cut some and not other aesthetic touches.

However, as a person who enjoys looking at the forum I am tired of looking at hundreds (thousands) of flag requests as well so I can appreciate why someone would want them removed from the game.

Perhaps a simpler solution would be to have Clan Badges as flags? It's a static image so much easier for Supercell to input and take a lot less storage on devices. It would suck as then people like me would have to stick to one flag, but it does seem like a decent middle ground.

But then you have an awkward situation where some players have something and others don't (and will want as evidenced by the threads) which I think Supercell would rather avoid. That feels like a band-aid solution, if Supercell is going to kill flags, kill them all.

Also, your solution is sounds good in theory but then do you know what the next epidemic of threads will be on right?

What if we include a stationary plaque on the Town Hall later on in the game, like TH8, where you can place a plain flag. It would increase village space and maybe even allow you to store multiple flags, like unlocks. This also allows for faster flag creation and bigger amounts of flags available.

Not a bad idea, perhaps like the flag already at TH8? I don't know how a stationary plaque would fit on the TH as they are pretty detailed at 9 and up already but worth consideration for sure.

To continue your idea I would see it working like this:

TH8 the current red flag could be customized to be a national flag.
TH9 flag off the front corners, both customized if desired.
TH10 banner flags above the lava flows, both customized if desired.

If you have paid to customize a flag at a lower TH it automatically carries over to the higher level TH when you upgrade.

ANd for th 8 the flag is painted off the roof, removing the existing red flag.

That could work as well, the main thing is I would like to see players who would like to have multiple flags still be able to do so, but to cap it at a reasonable amount (2-4). No one wants to see 50 flags off a TH.

Actually, it isn't hard to put a flag on any Town Hall. Just put a pole or three on the roof. :smirk:

Talked about it before a long while ago, because someone thought it would be neat to put the flag decoration on a TH8 roof. Later it was agreed that several poles could be added, regardless of Town Hall level.

3-4 flags would be fine on a Town Hall, since it is kind of a speical case to NEED 6, 12, or more flags.

If you want a flag park, ask for big 5×5 decoration flag park blocks.

If you want field filler, ask for more decorations.

If you want something to show off (or look stupid?), ask for more expensive decorations.

i like them and want to keep them, but if the decision is made to remove and refund the gold, my storage won't hold the refund.

Part of growing up is reading the entire thing, even if you quoted it. His first and main reason is that it seems clear Supercell can't/won't justify making more flags which is causing other issues...

Agree. Look at how people keep requesting to bring back elix walls lvl7.

And no matter how many times we explain it, another new guy just comes in and asks another request. I think the ruled out ideas should have explanations as to why they are ruled out so forum freshies can be directed there instead of people pummeling em to the ground with insults.

I saw a thread way back explaining most of the ruled out ideas, maybe that can be put in the stickies.

If the new guy with the repeated post is immediately sent there (one forum reply is giving him the link is enough), his post will quickly fade to oblivion since no one else is responding to him anymore, making way for fresh ideas that really nees to be debated.

Sounds like something else that should be added to the Newbie Catch idea I've got (in signiture currently), links to reasons why an idea is ruled out. :straightface:

Been pushing the idea for awhile, with a forum function that catches and redirects a newbie hitting the Create New Thread button to an intro page to give them a run down of the rules in an unborning manner. It's more detailed than that, but that's the basics of it; a way to tell them what they really need to know, and not be ignored like it was a EULA popup.

Ive posted to that thread of yours already. But sure. Ill look it up and post it there.

Yeah, that other thread, Petition suggestions for a new thread (data gathering) isn't going too well. :( Been dropping heavy hints here and there, but haven't gotten much yet for a list. Removing the flags entirely is a bad idea. I pride myself on having bought every decoration, and a group of flags beside your townhall that is outside your castle really looks a lot nicer and let's snipers know you haven't booby trapped it. I'm fine with the idea that new flags can't be purchased because I have bought them all, but this might not be too nice for new players.

The 'look stupid' part is to make light of people thinking it is a waste of gold (and sometimes gems) to buy so many flags (and statues). I don't mind. It's not my business to judge on what is a waste.

What they should do it allow you to buy only ONE national flag - then you can CHOOSE what country it displays.

That way every country can have a flag, and every base only has one.

This is a good idea but just one flag may be too restrictive, given how many bases I see that have like 10 flags. I would say to set a limit at, say, 3 or 4 flags.

I've suggested this before... Huh... somewhere.. in this forum.. :saywhat:

Anyway, idea was to remove the national flags as-is, give 3-4 'national flag' decorations which can have thier style changed, and repurpose the other 20 some national flags slots with other flags. It is basicly server inventory shuffling, and will turn most flag parks into something less like a U.N. entry way, as peoples's flags would be shifted into something else. They already bought them, so they don't lose out on much of anything, since most players with flag parks buy them all as if it were an achievement anyway, or as a way to show there are no traps around thier Town Hall.

Still, to ease things even more, a 'Flag Event', where refunding flags at full cost for a week could also be done. That way (active) people won't feel like they lost anything in thier 'investment' of so many flags and can quickly adjust to the new setup.

Tell me, how the hell does a decoration cause server lag?! Please, anyone, tell me your reason for your logic, and with some evidence that you know how computers operate.

I hate seeing new flag requests again and again. I dont think the flags should be removed. They should not be animated (maybe banners?)
And they should also cap the numbers of flags a base can have..

That's what I think might be the case too, people assuming the wrong thing.

Unless there is a field of flags, I can't see the lag issue, especially now with most devices being used, save for those ones with 3-5 year old phones or tablets.

If flags are causing lag, then how are you able to raid anything?! :confused: Would think raiding uses much more graphical processing than just flag animations.

Added Edit: Assuming properly optimized code. Had one other game that had simple graphics as well get an update and suddenly become lagy for no good reason. A later update fixed some memory usage glitch with it and was running smooth again. So there could be a chance that the code could do some quirks too in speical cases.

Another trivia quirk is with Half Life 2 graphics stuttering because of issues with the sound card! Yes, sound card. Because there was a function in the graphics processing that tried to sync up both sound and graphics as best they could. But in some cases, if the sound card couldn't keep up, or was glitching, the graphics, now tied to it, also suffered. (Isn't computer coding and trouble shooting fun? :smirk:)

Well if we go back to the phone memory, phones are more used to loading walls, TH etc than flags as not all bases have them let alone have the same ones, that's my best theory although I admit its not super strong.

However, to get back on topic, the issue with flags isn't so much the lag, it's the countless requests on the forums for ones that aren't in and the fact that Supercell won't/can't add all countries. This has become the main reason why the thread creator and others like myself have been pushing for an improvement on this.

Our solution to use a static image is much simpler for Supercell to add to the game as they would just need to load one image per country flag and then they could add the ones they don't currently have much more efficiently than coming up with animations for them all. Then we developed it a step further to say that it could hang off of the TH starting at level 8 as let's be honest, we are all getting sick of looking at the fake UN's a lot of people have.

There was for a time, issues with gif file formats on mobile devices. Why? Royalties! Who knew a commonly used, and now very old (in the computer tech world) format had royalties still? From what I recall, issues with that (whatever the details are) prevented most phones from being able to display gif files, which are still common in most every day websites. This also meant that programers had to reinvent some things just to get animated things to work back then.

Plus, several years ago when CoC started, graphics processing wasn't a big consideration for mobile devices until a few years later. The business model then (or the business model for most used devices back then) was that a smartphone was a mini office computer/Amped Up PDA than a hand held gaming device and media player. Wasn't because they weren't able to make phones that did graphics, but it wasn't seen as profitable to research that back then.

With that change in how devices are seen now, along with hardware and software tech getting better and better, I just can't see the lag issue with currently used devices. It has been a year or two, and by now the low end devices Supercell had to make considerations for should be all but defunct.

I've got a new phone and even on full WiFi at my home network some bases do take quite a bit longer to load. Not enough to disrupt gameplay massively but enough that I notice.

Perhaps the alternative solution that would alleviate the dislike of the flag forests AND allow for more flags BUT still allowing people to do that if they pay for it is moving to a static flag so it is easier for Supercell to add flags they don't have, but have an escalating cost for flags, first one maybe becomes cheaper than the current 100k cost but then it grows in price the more you buy?

I'd need more info on that. I still get the occasionally long moments waiting in the clouds while going to a different base. This could be caused by a couple things, a bad signal at that moment, or normal server lag. It does have to send out info to a lot of people, and varify client command actions, update accounts, as well as crunch numbers for clan matchups. Spikes in server load can easily come about from other sources, with base decorations being the very least of them of course.

I think, with so much demand for these flags, Supercell should redesign the national flags as something static, put all the flags in, and be done with this issue. A simple to work with blank object for the flags, which can just have the stat image pasted over it, would be all that's needed to get around the technical issue while giving people what they want, more or less.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Supercell graphics coding department knows all the conventional tricks and methods to keeping space usage low, while making it easy to work with and update, so no need to tell them there job. :p

Often, if my signal is good, it is due to a lot of decorations, sometimes the cloud will part and the game will stutter but again these are more corner cases than the norm. We are drifting off topic on our flag issue.

What we'd like: a way to include all flags or all flags removed
What we have: something in between the above

What we maybe get from what we'd like I think is the less important part than getting it. I personally would like to see flags tied to TH or Builders Huts, but have remained open to other suggestions including static flags (operating on the assumption that's easier to code).

I really like this idea if they are thinking about removing the flags.

Personally I dont own flags but I do think they take up space making a base look more full/intimidating. Some people aren't represented by their flag, so I could see how it is a never-ending process of making more flags to appease everyone.

In the end, I'd rather they ditch the flags and give us some trees and plants :)

Everybody wants their countries flag so REMOVE all flags :) :cool:

I actually own every decoration in the game(apart from mighty statue and pirate flag) But I'm actually getting really tired of new flags request, so as much as I love my flags just get rid of them all Supercell.

I'd recommend Supercell do the simplified flag graphics, and put all the national flags in and be done with it.

The details can be hammered out however they see fit. Would need a new interface for the flags, no question about that. How the objects would be juggled around, it's anyone's guess, since there are several ways to go about it.
