Protecting your DE from lightning spells...

So, we've all had that one ♥♥♥♥ who drops a spell on your DE storage then leaves. Pretty darned annoying.

People are coming up with all sorts of elaborate solutions to this but this one is much more simple.

What do we not want to happen? A lightning spell to take DE from the storage. Notice the specific wording of that. I mentioned nothing about damage.

My idea is that lightning spells can still damage a DE storage, but don't take any DE. It's so simple, why hasn't anyone said this yet??

People have thought of this. But that's just not how the game works.

This isn't Boom Beach - you don't have to destroy the town hall/HQ in order to steal resources.

Resources are stolen any time a resource building is damaged. And the lightning spell causes damage to buildings. Therefore, resources are stolen when a lightning spell is used on a resource building.

I don't see this changing anytime soon.

There have been a lot on this topic but I've never seen this suggestion.

I think the fact that you can take DE effortlessly makes the game a lot more frustrating, and I believe the majority really want SC to make it so it doesn't happen.

You are right, there HAS been a LOT on this subject. And still, nothing might be done.
Also, it's not as effortless as you think it is. You need a LOT of Elixir for this, and bases with decent loot are rare. Be thankful that people still snipe your TH and give you the 12H shield.

Also, DE Storage not getting damaged was already suggested before, I've been around long enough to see them.

If that's the case we should do the same for elixir and gold. So farming will become moot. With upgrading drills De is a rich resource until you near maxing dark troops.

Using Lightning Spells on the DE Storage is a perfectly legitimate strategy of gaining Dark Elixir.
If you get annoyed with zappers, just revenge them and you can take your Dark Elixir back.

I was shocked... (no pun intended:facepalm:) when I finally got my DE zapped from a revenge attack while hovering around low Gold III. I mean, really, someone did what I do to others when I couldn't do a good full scale attack. Last one was kind of amusing, since it was a rushed 2 lightening spell zap for 460. lol noob :smirk: That attack tickled.

Don't get me wrong, I get zapped. My log shows 4 zaps in the last 13 days. Am I ticked off? No, the ones I could revenge attack, I made them regret it. :smirk:

Now full on raids that went straight for my DE storage and took about twice as much DE, and 3 out of 4 times, had an Archer Queen shooting the ♥♥♥♥ out of my village... Had 8 of those damn things in the same 13 days! Still waiting on two of them to make a wrong move, making it worth it for me to strike back to take back my Dark Elixir. Yes, my DE, because most of what I get is from my max level Drills.

Untill I get like 6 zappers a day or something, I'm not going to complain about zappers, since OP raids from TH9s are what really are a problem to one's DE for a TH8.

Oh yeah, why am I in Gold III? To hide from the damn TH9 :saywhat:. Sure the gold loot is nice, and could farm DE, but really, game gets unfun fast when you have enough DE for a TH9 to see 1k+ or more on the screen while much higher. In Gold I, log off for 5 mins, and my phone buzzes about raid on my base, with yet again an Archer Queen leading the way with impunity.

I'm happy where I'm at, with the occasional abandoned base, or TH7 raid for gold. Most tmes I even put effort into losing with 40%+ damage, because I have to trophy drop after several defence wins, and mean base crushing revenge attacks. Yes, I revenge attack often. How often? I'm stuck with 5 usable revenge buttons left (out of 30 listed attacks) Waiting on two, that are attackable right now, one for a trophy drop DE Zap of a TH9, and a dragon raid on a rushed TH10 with crappy air coverage and a lot of loot. The others aren't ripe yet for attack.

There have been many threads about this already. It's part of the game. If you don't want to get zapped, try moving to a higher trophy range.

Really? Gold 3.... I was sitting in gold 1 getting sniped. Wanted to get to crystal and i changed my base to def - within 8 hours i went from 1750 cups to 2140.... The only reason why I even came up was to escape th 9s from stealing meh DE. And I recommend you hit gold 2 for nice bases. 600k total is sometimes a common find :D

The game mechanics is as follows: Damage takes resources from storages and collectors.

Your simple idea would destroy the basic mechanics of this game....

ive been zapped once in the last 60 days. He got 350 de. Big whoop, my drills will give me that back in about 90 minutes...

It's because it's the same idea in disguise as a ruled out idea.

Lightning spells are designed to damage bases without sending any troops in. I zap DE and even gold sometimes. I fully accept (and it happens) that I may get steamrolled with huge losses in revenge, and it's a risk I'm willing to take.

The whole reason for the 'hate' as you call it, is that this is the umpteenth thread about it, nothing will EVER be done to stop zapping, and most forumers are fed up with people suggesting it.

If you look through any other similar threads, they all have the same response, the response found in this thread.

I don't want this idea to be implemented. Personally, I LOVE zapping DE storages with lightning spells. I get a lot of DE upgrading my lightning to the max, finding bases with lots of DE, zapping their storages and ending the round. I don't even have to do anything and the enemy can't do anything to stop me!

Recently, DE storages have had a hotpoint increase so lightning doesn't take as much DE. You can also upgrade your storage to increase the hitpoints furthermore, so lightning takes even less DE.

Less damage

Make it so the DE storage takes less (1/2 dmg) to DE storage OR Teslas absorbs the lightning. Maybe being able to switch the teslas to defend mode

We all were th7s once. You know how excited you were to get your BK and frustrated because how difficult it was to get de because of the low production from de drill lvl1. Many of us zapped de when we didnt have strong troops to get it. I for one zapped a few times but got annoyed at how expensive and how long it took to create lightning spells so i went around youtube for strategies to get de faster w/out zapping. Found one strat, got my BK, never zapped again. Prefer heal spells that lightning.

As for those who zap my base, it depends on their th lvl whether or not im going to revenge them. If its a lower th than me, i let slide, but if its a th8 and above, then they feel the pain.

Point is, dont get too angry about zapping, its part of the game and the strategies that developed in the game regardless of how the designers initially planned it. Just keep on raiding. You'll get that de somehow.

Yeah, the forum search is a joke. For starters, you can't search for words shorter than 4 letters, which means you can't search for "DE" or "zap". (While I'm on that particular complaint, how am I supposed to search for strategies involving hog riders, when I can't search for "hog"???)

I've since switched to using google. You can tell google to search this site specifically, and google can search shorter words. You can even specify a date range in the advanced options. I've found some posts that I never would have been able to find without it.

So I don't blame the OP if he couldn't find it in a forum search. That said, anyone who has watched this particular subforum for more than a couple weeks has seen at least one thread suggesting this exact same suggestion. Yes, there are pretty much DAILY threads about preventing zaps, but they come in a variety of flavors. It's usually a lightning rod, or a rubber base for the DE storage, or an "umbrella" (♥♥♥ is an umbrella going to do????). But at least once every couple weeks, someone suggests this exact suggestion: let the lightning do its damage, but make it so it doesn't take any dark elixir.

And here's my analysis of that stupid idea right here:

First one hits, I get no DE. Second, no DE. Third one, no DE. Fourth, no DE. Now the DE is sitting there with something like 300 hit points, and I drop my final lightning spell.

3a: The DE storage explodes, I shout hurray, and then I see that you still have 1250 DE available to loot. Wait, what?????

Or

3b: The DE storage explodes, and with that ONE lightning spell, I get 1250 DE.

I mean, seriously, do people even think this ♥♥♥♥ through before they make these asinine suggestions??? Really, lightning damage shouldn't steal resources??? DE should be immune???

If you damage a storage, you get resources. End of story. There are no if's, and's, or but's about it. You damage it, you get the benefits. Anything else breaks the game.

And there you have it. Three scenarios, each describing a different method of destroying a DE storage. I left out a variation of scenario 2, where you get the usual 100 DE per attack, so after the goblins destroy the DE storage, the defender still has 1250 DE available. :facepalm:

Each scenario has drastically different results, because some idiot thought it would "make sense" for lightning spells to do damage, but someone not steal any resources. Seriously, I don't know how people can even think this remotely makes any sense. Go back to the drawing board, people!!!

BTW, the OP might be interested in an alternative suggestion I made. I don't want to see this implemented, but at least it MAKES SENSE. :facepalm:

Wow. This poll is even more lopsided than the last couple. I shouldn't be surprised though. Once we get past the kneejerk emotional reaction zapping really is good for the game for all of the repeatedly documented reasons.

Actually, after reading this whole thing what jumps out is that the 'tone' here seems to be originating from you. I think you are just angry and yes, it is making it easy for other guys to point out way you are not thinking through. I don't see how any of them have been intentionally making you look stupid and its up to you if you want to feel that is how you came out looking.

How you can claim you could not find any other zapping threads on the forum defies all credibility.

If you are "familiar with the mechanics of the game" as you are trying to convince us then you know already how zapping is good for the game and exactly how you can get away from having it happen to you.

My responses were not aimed at you. They were for the OP.

Your own responses I thought were fine. I didn't agree with every word, but you made reasonable arguments for your points. And you certainly were not sounding driven by rage.

We will always have screwy suggestions from people venting their outrage that they got zapped. The problem for them started when they thought they were being so clever to think of dropping really low to where no one could touch them. And then when they find out that people can actually touch them they automatically think it must be a game defect or someone cheeting because otherwise they might have to face up to thinking that they are not as clever as they wanted to think they are. But no matter what anyone says they always know the truth inside so that just makes them more angry as they fight to not admit it to themselves. And then with their anger clouding their reason they get into really wacky ideas on how to fix what isn't broken.

No really! Joking tone aside, I have honestly thought that what's-her-name-village-helper should step in on the first few devastating raids on the village and give the player some prospective on things.

"We tried our best to hold them off Chief, but they overran the entire village. Normally we would be out of luck, and out a home, but the layline that we are on helps rebuild quickly. Seems like we'll need it. Good news is that we were able to save most of our stored Gold and Elixir. When being attacked, we lock down as much loot as we can, keeping most of it out of the hands of the raider, so thankfully we aren't broke either. Best muster up the troops! We need to recover our losses and build up if we are to have any chance out here!"

Off the top of my head dialog/monolog from her. Yes, likely too long, but still, point is to bring tempers down, and enjoyment up.

speaking from my TH8 account perspective I am more annoyed that people are not playing ball and sniping my th and those pesky TH9s stealing 2k dark elixr than I am or ever will be with the zapping thing.

I honestly think the cap is not very good between th9 and th8 I have less than 30K and still get robbed 2k DE which would take solid comitment to get back to break even again for a TH8 - that's my gripe anyways - :smirk:

Agreeed getting raided by higher bases is worse.

The irony is that it is mostly the owners of these higher bases that get mad when the lower guys then turn around and zap them.

I honestly think the cap is not very good between th9 and th8 I have less than 30K and still get robbed 2k DE which would take solid comitment to get back to break even again for a TH8 - that's my gripe anyways - :smirk:

Be glad DE caps out at having 33k in storage (no cap for drills or CC looting). I had 40-50k for the longest time, and if it wasn't for that cap, I'd be losing a lot more per raid than just 1.8k (cap is 2k × 90% loot penalty for TH9).

Still, that one raid on me is almost 24 hours worth of passive Drill production!

If you are getting 2k+ loses from raids, you need to check your drills more or something. Because they never get over 2k on me, unless they catch me just before waking up, and having not been attacked all night, which is rare.

75% of what is in the drills can be looted, so keep that in mind (not 50% lootable from gold mines and collectors)

People are coming up with all sorts of elaborate solutions to this but this one is much more simple.

This is just a retread of another old idea that shouldn't happen and won't.

But in the interest of fun I will throw out a twist. A tesla is nothing of the sort if it is still in the ground. So say hat the tesla cannot absorb anything until the troops get to it to trigger it. And also to absorb it only absorb the portion of the energy that actually hits it. So if it is next to a structure that is the central target, that structure is still the central target and takes the central blast while the tesla absorbs and is unharmed by the side part that hits it. (unless it is still underground in which case it is not a factor at all)

I do think some tweaking to revenge is probably in order, like being able to see the shield length. It also made me think the lightning spell could be made to penetrate a shield. If you get demolished by a high level TH and your only real recourse for revenge is to zap, they have no real cause to be mad. If you get zapped first, you could then zap back whenever if you're willing to lose trophies.

Also with the way the game is designed, I see no reason to protect the town hall in multiplayer even when trophy pushing until you have basically a maxed base. If I'm low on resources and want to trophy up real quick I'll put my TH away to hopefully win a few defenses, but that's pretty much it. At a certain point in trophy pushing you get to a place where most everyone can get at least 2 stars anyway, so if you're not winning at least 1/4 to 1/3 of your defenses, it makes more mathematical sense to protect your loot and let them have a free 1 star and hope they take it. Point being if your TH is out and you get zapped youre also likely getting a shield, and all things considered losing less loot than you would if someone on your level brought a real army to your base. And if you don't like getting zapped dont sit in gold or silver.

For @#$% sake.. :facepalm: A moderatly rushed TH9 attacks with a mass of giants, mass of archers, and thier Heros, attacked me just to get 1k DE. Really?! My base is partly wrecked for that much DE? Is it that hard to get DE, or are people total morons? Again, the AQ shoots my not even a quarter full storage with holes. Wish I could knock her out, drown her in the damn DE vat, and hopefully gain back some DE from her, because this is just stupid. :mad:

People whining about thier DE getting poked by sparks have a bit of validation to cry, since there isn't any protection from it, but why the hell should time and effort be put into making a strong base only to be systematicly insulted at almost every step of the way? All that's going to happen is me vent my anger back on my attacker, and ruin his day. And seeing enough people cry about zapping, I know I can easily do it.

Really, this 'gameplay' needs to be fixed. It is a bunch of @#$% at this stage in the game. One of the main reasons people put up with this is because they still feel like they don't want to waste the 'investment' (in a game).

Supercell would be totally screwed over if many game reviewers put a critical spotlight on how bad late stage gameplay really is. Game is fun, early on, but it mutates several times, and then you wonder what got you started playing, and kept you playing, in the first place.

I'm not mad at the fact I lost resources. I know it will happen. But the way I losted it, to a tactless mass dump of cheap troops, and they still managed to get the most protected building in the base, despite utterly murdering thier forces before they got deep inside, only to have an AQ prance inside and shoot stuff up.

Not thier fault they are that patheticly desperate to grind for resources. Hell, the behavior is encouraged through out the whole game! (hence 'systematic' as in part of the system). Even I'm tempted over and over again to Barcher or BAM a TH7 to dust to get the loot I need, and can too! When I can, I'm actually nice about it. I work at dropping trophies with them at 40% damage. Even on abandoned bases I drop trophies, which helps keep those loot generators going, since defence wins and revenge attacks can push me up too high in trophy count for my liking.

Excuse me while I wait, again today, to see if I can dump annoyance back on my attacker, and gain back my stuff. Which.. sadly, I seem to be good at.

I wish it was only just a DE zap...

That you're being bullied by TH9s? I can't even tell if you're serious.

The AQ brings a new element because she has a range of 5 spaces, which means someone taking out half your base can have her walk right into the center, and if all you have nearby is teslas or wiz towers, they probably wont reach her, and the mortars take a while to kill. So if you're trying to defend against that, you need to think more about trying to pull in some of your cannons and archer towers a little.

Also, I never bother much with revenge, but as a TH8 had no trouble slamming low to mid TH9s for 2 stars with giant/wiz/healer and getting most of their loot. Seems preferable to zapping unless the player is so far above you you dont stand a chance.

There are lots of abandoned bases because lots of kids play, and kids have no attention span, so when upgrades start taking more than a day or two, they lose interest.

The game is skewed toward attacking, and designed to make you beat up on lower players to upgrade. Changing this would be difficult, and require a drastic overhaul of the trophy/league system.

Well, the topic strayed from a tangent. Part of the rant was to impress the point Zapping is by far not the worst that can happen. Which on a related note, I have an update! I did my revenge attack on said moderately rushed TH9. Been having fun doing silly army loadouts from the extra Elixir I'm stuck with, and with 3 healing spells, four healers, a left over dragon, and the rest being 31 wizards, I Wizard-tanked right in, ignoring the weak X-Bows he had, and Zapped, via wizards, 1.5k DE from him. I saw I did 38% damage, thier Town Hall was on the opposite side of thier farming based I attacked from, and I did a much needed trophy drop while also granting no shields. Yeah... I was not in a good mood.

Anyway... Gameplay issues.. :) Yeah, as you know, it will need a ton of work to fix. But I think it would be well worth it for everyone if they were fixed (how to fix them I still have little to go on lol). Trying to fix something that has become the status quo and so habitual to players is never easy, but I've banged my head on harder issues, so this isn't all that new to me.

I'm just surprised and fascinated by how even issues in a game can mirror real life issues. Of course. you are still dealing with humans, in real life or in a game, but at least in a game you can rant about a hot button topic, and not get physically attacked in real life for it, like some other more gridy issues (which aren't worth mentioning here).

Lastly, I think this thread kinda either died or is now hijacked. Woops XD
