Bring back upgrading to Level 8 walls with Elixir and Gold

Elixer walls was the biggest mistake in SC's history. I had a feeling it would end as soon as it started so i took advantage. Its done. Who cares how much it costs to buy and upgrade both X-Bows, and the Archer Towers and Cannons and Mortars and Seeking Air Mines and... Sure, it's a long list, but really, all those costs just pale in comparison to the cost of the walls.

So really, what ends up happening is people throw out this really big number. "1 billion OMG!!!" and then they shut down any further rational discussion.

But that 1 billion comes in two parts: the level 9 upgrade (at 1M a pop) and the level 10 upgrade (at 3M a pop).

Rationally, the level 9 upgrade gives you a wall that's twice as good as the previous upgrade, for the same price. With 1M gold and 1M elixir, a TH9 can buy two level 9 walls, each granting 1000 extra hit points. A TH8 with the same resources (which are harder to hold due to larger loot rate) can buy 2 level 8 walls, each granting 500 extra hit points.

Anyway you slice it, the level 9 upgrade is bass ackwards.

But wait, ONE BILLION GOLD! Okay, conversation over.

See how lame that is?

And the jump from TH8 to TH9 is also unique in the fact that it has less of an increase in elixir costs (excluding walls) than going from TH6 to TH7 and from TH7 to TH8.

Whereas the jump from TH9 to TH10 is almost 3 times as expensive.

So just because you think there should be a pattern there, it doesn't necessarily mean there should be.

Since they didn't decide to remove elixir for walls altogether, the line had to be drawn somewhere. The economy is functioning MUCH better now than when level 7 and 8 walls could be upgraded with elixir. Any way you look at it, TH8s having too much loot is a lot better than TH9s and TH10s having little to no loot.

Whether or not level 9 walls are more bang for your buck is beside the point. Removing the ability to upgrade level 9 walls with elixir just because a few TH8s think it's "unfair" that they can't use elixir on level 8 walls isn't a good enough reason to make a change.

From the very narrow perspective of the TH8 player who wants to upgrade his walls with elixir, you're right. Others here will tell you that you're being selfish, or call you stupid (even if they don't use the word "stupid"), or they'll lecture you about game economics. In fact, someone will probably post such a response before I can finish typing mine.

But you're right. After giving that feature to TH8's, it really was kinda stupid that they took it away.


Unfortunately, the game isn't about that TH8 player who wans to upgrade his walls with elixir. There's a bigger picture here.

If we give that TH8 the option to upgrade his walls with elixir, he'll be "happy", whatever that means. But if we don't give that TH8 the option, he'll be "unhappy". Why will he be unhappy? Because his elixir storage is full, and he doesn't have anything to spend his elixir on. It feels like a waste of elixir, when he wishes he could use that elixir to help buy really expensive walls.


So let's look at a TH9. If we don't give TH8's the option to upgrade his walls with elixir, he'll be "happy", whatever that means. But if we do give TH8's that option, then he will be "unhappy". Why will he be unhappy? Because his elixir storage is empty. He doesn't even have enough elixir to build an army to try to go get more elixir. And when he does finally save up enough elixir (from elixir collectors, which take hours to fund a barch army and the better part of a day to fund a stronger army), he goes raiding, spends all his gold pressing Next, and doesn't find anyone with enough elixir to even cover the cost of his army. He can't play the game anymore!!!!!

In this two situations, only one player is going to be "happy", and the other will be "unhappy". The question is, which is worse? Would you rather have a TH8 player be "unhappy" because he has too much elixir, or would you rather have a TH9 player be "unhappy" because he has too little elixir?

I mean, on some level, both of these situations are a "problem". But good luck convincing people that having too much to spend is a bigger problem than not being able to pay for basic tasks like funding a barch army, let alone a war army.

So yeah, taking away the elixir walls was a "stupid" move by Supercell, when you look only at TH8. But when you look at the big picture, the "stupid" thing to do would have been to let TH8's keep elixir walls. The game would be dead within a year, if it even lasted that long. Everyone would create second accounts and stop playing once they maxed TH8. Only players with gems (or a hell of a lot of patience) would continue beyond that. I've seen dozens of players openly admit they stopped playing the game on their TH9 and TH10 accounts, because there was nothing to do.

If you knew how probability worked, you would know that you can't exceed 100% by definition. In fact, you arguably can't even reach 100% certainty on anything, at least not on anything that involves the physical world, let alone human behavior.

If you really wanted to make a point, you would have said something like:
99.9999999999999999999999% chance it's never gonna happen.

Add as many 9's as you feel are needed to make the point.

Honestly, why couldnt you have just said this at the beginning than making everything a big commotion about people whining or complaining about this question? This whole thing is what i wanted to know about and this sums up all my questioning for the walls, so thank you. Everything makes sense now. Although as disappointing as it is that they had to get rid of the wall upgrades with elixir considering i have 3 accounts to work from, I understand why they did it. Thanks again!

People (th9/10) weren't donating troops because they cost too much, people stopped going to war since they couldn't fund their armies. You tell people not to come to your thread and complain but the thing is we have all seen this thread a bunch of times and it is a fact that loot dried up when this was implemented so its not going to be brought back and it shouldn't be.

Yes i know i have 3 accounts, but that picture is my main account on my tablet and its the best one closest to maxing out TH8. Makes sense of why they did it. And i dont need people blowing up about how big of a complainer i am because of something i dont understand. It simply couldve been a simple and easy answer to my question rather than trying to diss me about my "Spammer" thread.

Supercell once said something along the lines of "we don't do roll backs" following an unpopular update.


On this issue however Supercell did a rollback. This gives an idea of how badly it affected the economy. They thought it would be a great idea - trialed it, it didn't work and changed it back for lower level walls.
