War Matching Simple Improvement

My idea is simple. Wars are only matched at the top of each hour. So you can kick off your clan war search anytime you want but will only get matched at the start of the next hour. If the volume is low then this could be expanded to every 2 hours but 1 hour should be fine.

Why make this change? Well this would mean that instead of getting matched to the first clan the is semi close to yours and getting a mismatch, the matching system would have a very large pool of potential matches for each clan.

In the event of an odd number which would be fairly common, the last clan to kick off the search would be pushed back into the next hours queue.

Everyone keeps talking about the forumula for match making and how bad it is. Instead I think its a volume problem and SC has already done a few things to help in this area such as clan XP and Opt IN/Out feature both of which encourage more war.

Still even with the increased volume, having a large pool of clans to match all at the same time would certainly help improve this weakness... that is assuming the back end servers can handle the match making volume each hour.

Been requested a lot, its a good idea, I don't think there is too much opposition to this idea

facing the opponent of same strength all the time would be too boring, our clan always won all of them.

in the war, facing much stronger opponent is what makes clan war exciting, it's challenging, it's a way to learn how to be better. Losing is one kind of lesson.

our clan have been warring non stop these last 3 months, and we lost 4 times thanks to the much stronger opponents, and we learnt some lesson from that.

We got matched to stronger clan often, but we were able to win most of them, unless the difference is too much. thanks to the lesson we got.

out of 40+ wars, we lost 4 times, so not too bad i think.

so, in conclusion, this idea is not really good, since it makes clan war boring.

So what you are really saying is you prefer a system with mismatches? Interesting perspective though not one I share but certainly respect your opinion.

I do agree that a challenge is important but a proper match can be very challenging and the close wars are always the most fun!

Yeah, I don't agree with mismatches or facing overly strong opponents. We war pretty much consistently and go in waves, won the last 4, lost 3 before that, so on and so fourth.

I think the most fun wars that we have been in (IMO) are the close matches that come down to last minute attacks to seal the victory or loss.

I learn as much from warring a similarly leveled clan than I do a much higher level clan. Every clan has great players with unique strategies to be learned, interesting base set ups to emulate. At least in evenly matched wars, I am using my primary attack both times, honing my strategy, because when we are grossly outmatched, rarely do we waste max elixir to do another full attack for nothing (am already losing elixir on war wins). At most we arch a low level base to get 50% and salvage something from the loss, at worst, we will not even do our second attacks.

Whoa Rambo!! Good job man. So your argument is that for anyone as great as you fair matchups don't work out. I will accept as truth everything you say but still don't see that as a reason not to try for fair matchups or to call any such attempt a bad idea.

I think this is a good idea. I think it would also feed well into allowing the to someday implement the 'constant war mode; that another forum member has suggested.

Yeah, it kinda sounds like his main goals with this post were to promote how great his clan is at warring. I am more liken to think that they are the overpowered clan more often than not and any changes to the matching system would put them with more evenly matched clans.

I'm okay with that but with one condition:

- the wait time to find a match must be reduced from preparation day.

We fight war after war, no breaks. My clan prefers the war start time between 06PM and 12AM. Waiting for two hours will make the war start at 02AM. I don't want to miss a day because of that.

Attack scheduling is also a strategy.

Yea that would be fine IMO. The start time for everyone should be the top of that hour and end at the top of the hour. Glad to see so many people like the idea.

I like this idea. Although I do believe (at least from our experience) that the rate of mismatches is overstaded. In roughly 30 wars we have been completely mismatched twice. Once in our favor, once against.

But having a war that you know you are going to lose within 5 minutes of war prep starting is a complete bummer

No idea about your thread but will check it out. I had not seen the idea posted before. And to be honest I could careless who gets credit as I dont think any of us get a prize... I just want to see an improvement and this seems like an easy way to decrease the risk of bad mismatches.

Also I do agree that the complaints are over the top on match making but that does not mean there is not room for improvement. :)

I would think there is enough clans searching all day long that the time could be every 30 minutes. Everyone doing a search is pooled together and matches are made from the pool.

There could be an option to where if a bunch of clans do not have a suitable match they are shown a pop up that says suitable match within parameters not found. Match anyway or wait for next window? If you wait you would be put at the top of the matching priority pool to make sure you got a match that time.

Agreed. Though, I am human, and one's ego does do as it pleases.

I am a bit self conscious about posting links to my idea threads, even though I am obviously familiar with them, and they are the easiest for me to find via my profile. Yes, it seems like I made a thread for everything , but it feels too egotistical to mostly link my own idea threads. Have yet to find (or exhaustively look up) a forum feature that allows me to easily make and look up a list of interesting and useful threads I've ran into. I guess I could Subscribe to all of them :unsure:, but that feels unnecessary, awkward, and not the right feature for the job.

Given my post count, I've of course ran into a lot of threads. Some actual good ones. :smirk:

No I think your idea added a really nice piece of scheduling a time. My goal was to increase the pool of options but yours does the same AND gives clans more control over when they war. So I like your idea and fully support it.

Great idea, my clan gets mismatched too often. Its kind of like the number of ppl in war, how it caps every 5 ppl for better matches. I think it would solve the mismatch problem

Love the guy who is like fair matchups aren't fair for the other clan because my clan is just that good.



I could be wrong, but in all likelihood he's in a clan that is predominantly TH8 and below.


My clan started out like this, and I'm guessing a lot of others do too, where we had a really stellar record for a long time because we were more organized than most other clans at our level, required players to use both attacks, and go after targets that were reasonable for their level. As long as at least half the clan was reasonably good at attacking we won the vast majority of our wars.

Once more of the clan started becoming TH9 and 10 however, we started getting matched only against clans that were at least as serious as we were, so the "even" matchups were much more competitive.

The real problem though is there's a bigger difference between a low TH9 or 10 and a high one than there is at lower TH levels, so the mismatches up higher tend to be a little bigger as well.


Anyway, I'd certainly be for a set time, or anything that would make the matchups more even.
