Everything in the game (except decorations) is purchased with gold, elixir, or dark elixir. We need something else.

Unlocked at Town Hall 8 (why? Between Barbarian King at 7 and Archer Queen at 9)
BASIC FUNCTION
It allows players to summon a units from a selection of unlocked units. Once unlocked, a unit can be summoned at no cost except for time, aimilar to heroes, which of course could be gemmed, likely at the same cost as heroes. However, only one unit can be summoned or used at a time. The first unit would be fairly basic and generic, taking a short time to summon (about 20 minutes so it can be used with farming,) and the requirement for unlocking would be to build the summoning obelisk.
EXTENDED FUNCTION
Further units could be unlocked by achieving different milestones, and do not have to be unlocked in order.
Sample units
Goblin King (often requested as a hero, I know)
Summoning time- 30 minutes
unlocked by- total destruction of all goblin villages
Hitpoints- Let supercell decide
DPS- 100
Speed- 32
Special ability- It constantly runs, dropping bombs on resource buildings which explode as the king runs around the base, each doing 100 damage. It drops bombs without stopping, and will only stop when it needs to hit a wall to get to the next resource building or there is only one accessible resource building. Once all resource buildings are destroyed, it runs off the map if still alive and returns to the summoning obelisk to be used again.
Charge gatherer
Summoning time- 2 hours
unlocked by- reaching level 100
Hitpoints- 1000
DPS- varies
Speed- 12
Special ability- Ranged unit, 2 tile range. It feeds off of enemy fire. It takes damage as any other troop would, but its DPS is inversely proportional to its remaining hitpoints. Its attacks do 50 damage at a time, and its attack speed increases as it loses hitpoints up to, say, 6 attacks per second.
Strategical usefulness- if a tower is locked on to it and then frozen or destroyed before destroying the charge gatherer, the charge gatherer can continue to fight at high DPS until another tower targets it.
Fly- In
Summoning time- 48 minutes (to match a balloonion with 6 balloons in each barracks, one rage, and level 10 heroes)
Unlocked by reaching Masters or Champions league
Hitpoints- 3000
DPS- none
Speed-20
Special ability- it is a differently-colored lava hound that flies in from whichever edge of the map closest to where you tapped to place it. It makes a beeline to the town hall, and if it makes it there before it is destroyed, drops an orb on the town hall that turns into a heal spell equivalent to the level unlocked by the player when another unit comes in to its radius.
War Master
Summoning time- 90 minutes
Unlocked by participating (and attacking) in 15 wars that result in a win.
Hitpoints- equal to twice your "War Hero" score (up to 400)
DPS- equal to half your "War Hero" score (stars scored in war) up to 100
Speed- 12
Special ability- if used in a player's second war attack, it allows the attack to be used as a second chance against someone the player already attacked.
Helping Hand
Summoning time- 40 minutes
Unlocked by achieving 25000 friend in need.
Hitpoints-0
DPS-0
Speed-0
Special ability- it is placed like a clan castle, and a full clan castle (of your level)'s complement of a predetermined troop will be placed.
Remember, only one of these units can be used at a time. Also, these are examples, and disagreeing with one of these troop ideas should not take away from your opinion of the overall idea of the summoning (whatever).
