With 4 Builders, 3 of them working on defences of thier own type, (one AD, one Cannon/Archer Tower, one Wizard Tower/Mortars, one for misc stuff) I've already used up my Elixir based upgrades, which were just barracks at TH8 (resource buildings don't count. So cheap to start upgrades, but eat up time). Lab is still moving ever so slowly, with mostly DE troops being upgraded so I can get rid of (in a useful manner) the stockpile of DE I rarely use from the 'too awesome to use' effect from the rarity, and the feeling I'd never get my money's worth out of using Dark Barracks troops.
This has resulted in me having my King up to level 10 already, and a very slowly shrinking list of Dark Troops to upgrade. Hog Rider lvl4 is almost done (12 hours from posting this) and looking into Golem lvl2 (60k DE!) after a quick 3 day catch up upgrade on balloons (to have DE for war). But most of these awesome upgrades of troops take so much dang time, and Dark Elixir has been the thing that got priority over regular Elixir troops. So I have to work at not capping out at 6 million Elixir, which has been hard to do in a fashion that is practical. What should I do, do a Wall Breaker rush on a base for the kicks and ♥♥♥ factor?
And it isn't just me, many other bases are low on gold and stuffed with Elixir. So the argument of 'just spend Elixir to grab gold' slowly becomes impractical as more and more people spend more Elixir than usual for resources they want.
I think much of this stems from the problem of wall costs out striping gold production. People like me, that want to max out bases before the next TH level are raiding for good at whatever is a reasonable. cost. If thier is a glut of army funds, so much you can't hold it all or use it all, the idea of 'reasonable cost' gets skewed along with the inflation of income.
One way I guess to 'solve' the Elixir/wall upgrade issue, assuming that can be done in a practical manner at all, is a possibility of an 'Elixir Brick' building, turning Elixir into material usable for walls, and can be used to substitute the gold cost. With a building like this, Supercell can put in batch cost restrictions, like needing to be 3-4 million Elixir, to use, which will force people to store up Elixir before it is usable, which means it is still able to be raided. Assuming they don't raid hours on end, to keep from getting raided, and then dump the Elixir into before the risk of being raided hits... which defeats the purpose of the idea.
