Sometimes things work that way, good ideas have a way of sorting themselves out.
No arguing they are making gems from people who need their heros to win wars but you could argue that most of that money would not be lost if they made heros work while upgrading, it would just be spent on some other upgrade. They didn't have to make upgrading defense towers work during clan wars (or heros on defense) but they did because they decided it made the game better, they could decide having heros active while upgrading does the same.
<sigh> I have to start this argument on another thread, don't I? Well, I might as well start typing. Defenses work because they are on your war base. You cannot mess with things on your war base, just move buildings around. your heros on war base automatically defend it. You cant toggle them to sleep, and you cant order them to attack either. Nothing that is offensive (except the troops themselves) can be used while upgrading. That's just the way it is.
There may actually be huge coding issues but anyway, it is called being diplomatic. You don't tell the customers that you won't do it because it cuts out of their paychecks. We don't like that, despite the fact that they need a job and money. The diplomatic way to say no is to say that there is some sort of major problem with trying to do that.
Edit: You people do understand that Supercell is a company, with employees and shareholders and all of that right? You do realise that giving us use of heroes in war would be a major drop in revenue for them? This is just a game to us, we can put it down when we want. However, for the people who work at Supercell, it is their livelihood.

You contradicted yourself in the post "except the troops themselves", which could mean the unit while it is upgrading in the lab, the army capacity while a camp is upgrading and the clan castle both on offense and defense while it is upgrading. These were arbitrary decisions made my game designers and not sacred cows.
I didn't say it wasn't the way things are but there is no reason it can't be changed. I feel when supercell says it would be hard they mean it would be hard to separate war attacks from multi-player and single-player attacks. I do not think it would be hard to have heros always work while upgrading, which I don't think anyone would object to.
I think clan wars would be better if they allowed heros while upgrading, a more true test of skill between the to clans and I only play the game for clan wars so if supercell is interested in increasing my enjoyment of the game they will listen.
No I don't realize that, I got $50 a month to spend on COC, it is all going to gemming heros and occasional boost raiding. If they allowed heros in war I would stop gemming my heros done, I would not spend any less on gems. Some people would spend less, sure, but some people will also not give the game up because they didn't feel it was worth it but keep on buying gems.
Yes it is supercells livelihood and they should but a lot of thought into improving the game and make the right decision.
Not until they come up with something else to add to the game to replace the revenue stream they would lose by allowing it. They are out to make money after all, they aren't going to lose that without having a replacement for it.
