For one, dragons will always prioritize those units over base attacking. Also, nearby troops will 'notice' the other troops targeting the defender's troops, and also change targets (which is good and bad; good they help each other, bad that it may pull more of course). They are coded that way on purpose, and is a moot point to argue against. It is a valid strategy for a defender to use troops as detractions, and obviously it seems to be effective when not countered.
So the only question I have is, how far away are attacking troops from the defender's troops before they react and change targets? Go through the replays and do some rough measurements as to when you see the clear change in behavior.
Tip: Saw some attack bases using this behavior against the defender. What they do is send in a mob of troops, which then causes them to focus where the CC troops pour out, and after dispatching the CC troops, they are deeper inside the base. Someone did this with a dragon attack in war, and utterly wiped out the center where the AD were at, because they deployed opposite of the CC, and the Troops just pulled all the dragons near the center. Was a well executed attack, since CC troops can bog down dragons and mess them up.
Also, I'm a clan leader (woo go me!) so I can't just visit. Sorry :(
