How do you Gem?

Hello everyone, the point of this thread is to find out how you all gem, or if y'all even gem at all. As I've been getting older, iTunes gift cards are not as useful as they were when I was younger. I used to buy all these apps I never used, and it was a waste, but now what I do is save up those iTunes gift cards until I find a game that I think is worth spending them on, which for me right now is Clash of Clans. In the early stages of my gemming use, I would speed up pretty much like every building upgrading, and I would ALWAYS insta finish barracks troops for farming. I would just in essence throw gems down the drain, but now I'm very conservative, and I NEVER speed up barracks or buildings. I was just wondering, how do you all gem? Do you gem or not? What type of things do you spend gems on, and what kind of things do you not? Thank you for any advice or helpful thoughts given to me in this thread. P.s. I have attached a picture of my base to show you all exactly where I am at currently. Thank you.

all those gems and you are still that premature? ;( you have been unlucky
if i were you i would only use gems to upgrade buildings, not on getting the resources to upgrading them, just speeding up building time, thats the only place where gems really shines, (except from getting more builders but you have all 5 already so that doesn't matter)

also, i never gem barrack troops because i don't buy gems unless i need an one week shield for a holiday :)

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Could you please elaborate on how I am 'still that premature'? If I am that premature, I'd just like some helpful advice on how to do so, which buildings to upgrade, etc.

Ah yes, exactly what I used to do. Its the best for farming for hours on end raking in the resources. I do not do that too often now, but did it a lot before.

I wouldn't say "that premature"... some defense like air defense, teslas and walls are below what you can max in TH7.

But you should upgrade and max your mortars and wizard towers first, then you can work on others.

To the OP: I gemmed 5 builders when I first realized that I enjoyed the game. Aside from that, all I really gem is troop time (not barracks) and I just do that 10 gems at a time so I can donate dragons without disrupting my own attacking. I'm in a small clan and only 2 of the 14 of us can make level 3 dragons or valkyries at all. So I try to make the other folks happy. But I don't gem anything else as a general rule. I think I've spent $80 on gems, total, in 6 months. That seems semi-reasonable i suppose. Since I spend that much a week on wine... Ahem... ;)

Yes I see what you mean. And for something that is as time consuming and fun as clash of clans for me I'd pay a whole lot more for. I mean, taking a girlfriend/wife out to a nice restaurant is like, what I'd say 10,000 gems? And I mean, for the amount of time I spend in game, I think it is reasonable to spend a little dough on the game. And especially for you, $80 in 6 months is nothing for the amount of time it probably took you to get where you are today in coc.

And I meant to say troop time, not barracks in the original post, my bad. I also do the exact same thing as you. A lot of my clan members (who are also irl friends) cannot make drags or hog riders, so if they have a big enough cc, I'll speed some drags up and donate them, just because it's a nice thing to do.

i honestly wish i had a ton of money to burn on this game but the primary reason i farm hardcore in this game is simply because i am wayyyy too poor to buy gems other than that i maybe can find a bit of luck when getting anywhere from 10-15 bux every 2 months or so.

I feel you. But the good part is, this game is easily playable at almost any level. Unless your ambitions are to be number 1 (hehe), then you are fine on the spending money part. The game sometimes in my opinion is more enjoyable if you don't have to spend money on it constantly, because in the end you wouldn't have wasted any money, and because it is fun to see everything progress with patience.

I usually use them for doing 4x barracks boost or finishing build times. I usually top off a build time if my storages are full and builders are tied up for a while and I feel like farming more. I've never used them for resources, the amount of gold/e/DE that you get per gem seems pretty weak.
