Anyone noticed a change in the derby task board?

This morning a new derby has started. In the previous 2 derbies, we have had a wide range of tasks from low to high Derby Point (DP) values for each board. Usually every board will have at least two (sometimes three) 300DP tasks on it, one to three 200+ DP tasks, one or two 100 DP tasks, and one to three under-100 DP tasks.

This morning -- FUHGEDDABOUDDIT

We trashed ALL tasks on the first 3 boards, since none were for 300 DPs or close to that. That's 36 possible tasks, with ZERO for 300+ DP.

Out of our next five boards (60 possible tasks total), we kept 8. So that's 88 tasks trashed and 8 accepted in the first 5 hours of the derby.

I have not seen more than two 300 DP on the board at a time this morning, where in the previous 2 derbies I could trash the lower DP tasks and have 6-7-8 300+ DP tasks left on the board. Previously, I would get 2-3 more 300DP tasks with each clear of four-five tasks. If I only cleared a task or two, I would only have to clear those same tasks 1 more time before I got at least one 300DP task.

My neighbors are getting frustrated with the LOUSY pickings, as they come back and all tasks are trashed with many more minutes to refresh. None are complaining that the NH leadership is trashing all the tasks -- they are complaining about the sudden rarity of 300DP tasks.

Many have griped on this forum that they did their 5 tasks in 1-2 days and are now done for 5 days, or the length of the Derby. Is this SCs way of tweaking the game to address that complaint, so that folks will have to play the derby for a longer period of time?

What about those of us who were glad to have our derby tasks done so we could help our NH? We liked the old distribution of tasks JUST FINE.

I have noticed the same. I have been doing a super amount of trashing to get the good ones

There is definitely a big difference in the amount of 300 +, well even 200 + tasks. I've been waiting 5 hours to even start my first task. We are constantly trashing our tasks. Only 5 of our 24 members have even gotten a task. That's 5 tasks over 5 hours! If SC tweaked the numbers so we won't finish as quickly, they've done an excellent job. :-D I'm off to collect some more trash. :-)

Something else that just occurred to me: With fewer long-term high point DP tasks, those who play by popping in and out around work are disadvantaged. We have had 2 neighbors who popped in to find no tasks on the board for them to work on -- tasks that, even if they had been left on the board, these neighbors would not have taken anyway.

Everyone plays differently :) It is clear you enjoy the hunt and that's great for your enjoyment :)

For us, this change is not working since we have many enthusiastic folks who look for those longer tasks to do. When those tasks are not turning up, they don't get to play when they can play. And that pits more pressure on the leaders to keep checking in, only to trash tasks - this is a CHORE, not PLAY

If this correction reduced the rate of the high-point DP tasks to the point where they are so rare that you need to trash 40 tasks to get 1 -- that is WAYYY to rare, in my view, and will harm the derby.

Yes Perky your observations are correct. We have had the same problem. We only have 13 people and the only decent tasks are boats. It seems risky for all. Of us to do boats at the same time. What I'd like to see is for the higher point tasks to be on the top line of tasks, the lowest ones on the bottom and midsize ones in the middle. That way you could keep three of each on the board most of the time. That way the lower level players or players who just can't play all day, who can't do 12 boats or mine ridiculous amounts of ore could still do the mid level tasks or lower ones. I have done two of my tasks but I am having to wait also. And since two of our leaders are on the other side of the world, they have to sleep sometime right? Oh well. Tweaking on the fly I guess.

I know you can't make everyone happy in a global game that each person plays differently. But if this presumed reduction in the number of 300DP tasks was done, it will also have the effect of making it harder to reach the 5 horseshoe prize level for EVERYONE. So far, it appears to us that the horseshoe-reward points are the same.

4 new tasks just popped up for us: 66DP, 50DP, 70DP, 167DP. Trash, trash, trash, trash. Check back in 30 min for more TRASH.

Probably in response to so many bragging about taking only 300+ points, the derby is easy, and any strategy involved is so trivial obvious as to not deserve being called strategy.
I've been wondering what SC's motivation for this might be. Maybe trying to lengthen the derby out (we had many people who had completed 1500 points end of second day). Maybe trying to add more angst & anticipation to those of use trying to keep high point tasks on the board, to see how dedicated we are.

I'm withholding judgment for now. I can see it being advantageous to neighborhoods that are more disciplined (ahem!). Although not really happy about effectively extending it: so far I've been very happy with cranking out my five tasks and then getting back to normal before the next derby.

YES -- EXACTLY!! And being able to help our NH members with THEIR derby tasks - one of our lower-level neighbors did THREE 309-pt truck tasks (God Bless her), and she needed 4 days to recover. ha!

Same NH as Tiggerr here. Have spent most of the morning tossing shoddy tasks one after the other. Don't know whether SC has tweaked something or not, but these low point ones aren't worth the time it takes to rip them down.

We've got members standing in line wanting a decent task. If this was meant to slow the pace, then job well done, SC. The derby will be over before any of us we find those nice big point ones that have been plentiful the past two derbies.

Another thing I'd like to add, this was supposed to be a competition against other NHs, not a competition among NH members. I'm not scrapping with my friends over tasks. I've already had to apologize to a one friend because we both went for the same task, & I happened to be a split second faster. She was cool with it tho, & decided to wait for another, but that took the fun out of it for me. I want to help & play with my friends, not against them.

Somewhere in the long thread in Announcements when the update came out Nick acknowledged that the derby description just says "Leaders" whereas in practice Elder and up can trash unclaimed tasks. He also said that they were thinking about "fixing" this in a future update so that only the Leader could trash tasks.

Frankly that seems stupid to me. I trust Elders with decisions about who to invite/accept into the neighborhood: certainly that is much more responsibility than just preening the task board?

Given a choice, I would much prefer to have elders trashing low point tasks, as opposed to just me being able to trash tasks regardless of how many 300+ ones were there.

If you are going to let co-leaders and elders accept new members into the neighborhood, you should let them kick them out too. Inconsistency there where only the leader can kick them out.

Re the task board, yes, it took a lot of trashing this morning...we finally got 2 boat tasks for 320, and a couple crop task near or at 300, but it took a lot of trashing lol.

Co-Leaders can kick them out as well.

I'm actually happy that Elders cannot evict. Too many people get their feelings hurt by being evicted. I much prefer a small number of people with access to the Evict button, so that I can do a better job of maintaining in what people get evicted for.

So, yes, I'm inconsistent about my sensitivity to inconsistencies. ;)

We are having the same experience.
I'm not sure it is only a bad thing? Maybe more NHs will have a chance now?

When I opened my game this afternoon 8 neighbours had picked a task and some of them were below 200 DP - one even below 100. And ALL the tasks picked or on the board were below 300 DP. Not at all like the previous derbys.
In the last derby we won gold and only one other NH were really competing with us. That was not much fun. Maybe this will add a new dimension? More cooperation and patience is needed.

We have leaders, co-leaders elders and members in our NH. It's great because we have more than just 1 person to trash tasks.

And I agree with you about the whole trusting elders thing -- if I trust an elder to issue an invite, surely I can trust them with the decision to trash a 77DP task!

I don't see that as being "inconsistent about my sensitivity to inconsistencies" -- I see that as a chain of command thing. (oops -- my Navy is showing!)

I believe Leaders and Co-leaders should have equivalent responsibilities since they are both leaders.

Elders should have many of the responsibilities of the Leader or CoLeader since they are also in NH leadership, but should not have ALL responsibilities as the Leader or CoLeader -- otherwise why have the Elder rank at all?

I would be fine if co-leaders could evict them too. Problem is we have a leader that disappeared, and our two co-leaders seem to only be able to demote people who are inactive, not evict them. So we may have to trash the whole neighborhood because of that.

Co-leaders can evict members and elders. But they can not evict the leader.

Yes, we have noticed the same, lots and lots of low level tasks. We have been trashing all day 😒 patience isn't a strong point, guess this is what they may want.......

Same in our NH. We were still trashing tasks non stop when I went to bed last night and very few taken up. Very frustrating, especially as we will not be around as much for a few days and wanting to get a good start😠

Oddly enough our very laid back neighbourhood (less than half of us play the Derby, we choose tasks that suit our playing style and don't worry too much about the points or trashing orders, and unsurprisingly have never come within an asses roar of winning :p) seem to have lots of higher point tasks on our board. I've just done a trucking task for 292, I'm doing townies now for the same, other neighbours are doing tasks for late 200s/300 points.

I wonder if SC are trying to balance things out a bit and gee up (ha!) some of the more lackadaisical neighbourhoods like ours?

What?! We get 300+ tasks? I have never seen them in my NH board. Now I will trash more in hopes of getting one. I did notice my first round of tasks had only 1 task of 200+

Is this your first derby? They were pretty common in the previous two.

We're starting to get some. Or, more to the point, now that people are busy working on their (grumble) 260-299 point tasks, we are able to continue trashing and start accumulating better ones.

I am not aware that we would have made any changes to the tasks. We might do some minor balance changes in the next update though. :)

No, not first but I do not trash many tasks because my family (neighbors) do not play often so I want to leave the easy low points tasks for them. I tend to tackle the big tasks and thus noticed I have never done 1 for 300+.

I can't get many high point tasks on my board either. Have been trying to get the high boat task all day, b/c want the time to do it leisurely during the week without feeling pressured into doing too many cream/feather/jam boats like last week when I left it to near the end.

But I'm not seeing the high point tasks yet either, except for a couple of trucks and then indigo and chili peppers, like the DD doesn't have enough indigo in it already, gacckk.

Will keep trying. Sigh.

Even though I trashed a lot of orders from the board, I haven't seen a lot of 300 plus tasks in any of the Derbys do far.
Which was what made me wonder about people saying to trash all but the 300 plus tasks.

I chose a 305 point task which is truck orders for my last task so now I have till the end of the derby to complete it.
In general I am content if it's 270 or over.

I think they should have the low to high paying tasks equal. If you do a high paying task, then it is replaced with a high paying task and vice versa. Then you can cater for everyones level and high level players like me, don't have to wait wait wait and wait to get a good task.

However, I did notice, the last few days of derby, it is a bit easier to get the higher tasks, because people are done. I will wait until I can get a good one.

Elders should be included to keep it consistent with invite settings. Our leader sometimes isn't available due to work and after the recent debacle with derby he's a little miffed and is not playing at the moment.... Just another example where sc do not communicate effectively or test effectively!!

In the previous derby I managed to do only tasks worth 290 or more and trashed little to achieve this. The current derby, however, is proving difficult to find decent tasks. Trashed dozens trying to find anything worthwhile over 300. I like doing the high value truck and boat tasks just to spread the game out over the seven days.

In a small neighbourhood of 4 with only 2 active I have found no competition and won the previous races easily. But this one is different anf am finding it much more competitive with everyone putting in some early high scores.

Yes, we had the same when this derby started. We kept on going trashing several tasks the whole day yesterday. Today it's not as bad as yesterday.

I am trying to work at office & keep low point tasks trashed along with others in hood. Trashing anything below 200 points but finding very few 300 for more active upper level players. Our choices are definitely worse this time!

We are hoping to recruit some more high level players that are competive to help us out. We won first Derby and came in second in next one. With these points we will need more people!

Or less people: you're matched against neighborhoods with the same number of players at the start of the derby. Getting rid of the inactive players means that you'll be matched with smaller neighborhoods. If winning first place is your goal it's not about size, it's about participation. In addition to trashing low-point tasks, of course :-)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that getting rid of your inactive players is the best answer. But I do think that winning the derby and keeping inactive players are incompatible, unless you get matches against even less active neighborhoods.

My neighborhood has had quite the noticeable change with the quality of task orders available for redemption- only had one task above 300 and most are under 100- it has been very difficult strategizing this time around....spending a lot of time trashing orders and waiting in anticipation for higher quality orders only to be disappointed 30 min later... Luckily I have 5 more days to go....😁

Yes,I have definitely noticed a change on what comes up on the board. At first we had many train orders now there is 1 and it only gives 50 points for 3 people served. That's just too few. I used to see (and do) orders with 19 people per train and I had no problem with that.
My NH fell from 4th to 11th place. 😞

We had to wait a couple of days but we're seeing a few more higher point tasks.

It seems you have to be pretty patient to get those big tasks orders.
we have finished all our tasks already but I have been paying attention and tearing down low point orders.

We did okay on orders of 250 to 271 points and are still about 1200 points in the lead.

On the plus side there it's been 3 days since the Derby started and we don't know who the winner will be. in the first 2 derbys there was plenty of 300 point tasks to choose and most people were done within 36 hours. now we're having to be strategic about it. I know myself I still have 3 tasks to go because I picked the 12 boat order task to start with. and yeah we trashed a lot but there's still 4 days to go and it doesn't matter who gets the 5th horseshoe first unless it's a tie for the final point. what matters is he who dies with the most money wins. I mean whoever finishes with the most points.( yeah that's what I meant.)

We've noticed a change in our board too, we still get a few of the 309pt truck tasks but the high fishing and town tasks have been AWOL and many of our members are waiting for the better tasks but at this rate we may need to settle for lower points

That's my feeling too! Probably we'll start getting those 300+ tasks more often now, and we are just half way to the deadline. I've just got a 320DP fishing task, not bad! And some 300+ crops tasks this morning, pretty nice!:)

Noticed a bunch of bad in the beginning....

Lots of tear downs.

Business as usual in my NH....nobody takes less than 300.

What stinks.....no competetion this time....we could have all completed 2 tasks each in a 28 member NH and still be in first. 2nd place barely has 3k while we have 20k nobody even close to being done in our NH...

Last derby was awesome...down to the wire....it was fun...had everyone on the edge of their seat.

Bad matchup this time....it will happen....but it's more entertaining to have some good competition.
