I don't see how raids can prepare you for war...

I look at replays during war but all I've seen for several month is that full dragons lvl3/4 doesn't work on me (rarely 2 *).
Plus I consider war a team effort and sometimes you don't know how good and reliable are new members so instead of loosing resources in expansive troops to give away, this would be free with no exp, no cost, just time to check and perfect team work, each individual's motivation, etc.
Raiding as a training, I tried, I just lost a ton of cash, winning the game but barely covering the costs... Since then( yes it has been a while for me) patches made winning rewards more interesting but I still think it's different since the opposite side will not necessarily have troops in their castle, will not necessarily be organized to defend stars but more resources protection oriented...
This would not be the new direction of the game, just in game parentheses to build team work/organization, practice war (gifts), how to approach opponents, try war compositions etc. Just a tool to optimize efforts and stats for the real deal.
To summarize... A practice mode... Just limited within the team.
