TH8 vs TH9

Every time my clan announces a trophy push. I get frustrated. It's because I am at a TH8 and feel like I can only go so far before before every base I run into has X-Bows. I have tried multiple tactics. 5-10 Giants with a healer and mass arch. 15-20 giants with a healer, archers and wizards. I have tried supplementing with dragons. Also mass arch and barb. But nothing seems to work. I can't get to them fast enough. I don't think the losses would sting so much if these opponents all had decently leveled up buildings proportional to their TH9, but even the gemmers and rushers with pitifully leveled up basic defenses and lvl 1 X-Bows are still too much for me. Does anybody have any suggestions? Or are these X-Bows just over powered, and i should just join the mass of noobs and rush to the X-Bows?btw... My troops are all lvl 5 with the exception of dragons, healers, and pekkas. They are lvl 3.

What trophy level are you at? I would say continue your course and don't upgrade prematurely, better in the long run!

For the time being just keep on clicking the 'next' button.

High 1800 to low 1900. That's usually where I max for a push. Does it require lvl 6 troops to overcome an X-Bow? Or is there another strategy?

In our recent push i got just over 2000 before I had to go with high level troops.

Dragons with three lightning was pretty good but you had to search for bases with only three AD or upgrading AD to ensure victory. As I went higher in trophies these were harder to find. If you have upgraded minions and a good amount of DE another option I used is 4 lvl 3 drags & 60 lvl 4 minions. Similar to all dragon but has advantages due to speed and number of minions.

The most successful combo I used was a lvl 1 golem, 3 lvl 3 pekka, 19 lvl 5 wizard, 9 WBs, & archer. Bring along your BK and this will do damage. Have lightning for CC troops and 2 rage ready if needed to take down TH.

Look for lvl 1 x-bows or bases that have one upgrading. Avoid lvl 3 x-bows as TH8.

Seems like you dislike trophy pushes. In that case you need to find a farming clan who doesn't care about your trophy level.

Well done azn. I think the biggest difference between us two is the mortars in that vid would one shot my archers. If you get a vid of your lvl 5 troops working on 2 X-Bows please post it. Sandiego, I think I like your 60 minion/dragon strategy better than the other one with a golum and mass wizard. It would seem to allow me about 3 raids before I'm out of elixir and gold. Im looking for a more economic way of approaching them.

x-bows are basically a timer for TH8 troops. i've found that x-bows are best countered with mass troops (so that you can still destroy stuff as your troops get picked off one by one). relying on groups of massed troops, however, is super vulnerable to high level mortars and wizard towers.

in my experience as a TH8, it's rarely worth the time and effort to find a base with such poor splash damage placement that you can counter x-bows using massed troops to get 50%. still, i don't think 1900s should be your cap -- there are definitely bases without x-bows up through 2000 that you should be able to one-star.

i know that people on the forums claim to have success with TH8 troops vs. x-bow bases, but people make claims on the forums all the time. given how much everyone plays, i'm sure it's possible to cherry-pick a few replays where everything went right. that does NOT mean, however, that using lvl 5 archers against double x-bow bases is a generally viable strategy.

Is trophy push purely your goal or do you want to trophy push and still have resources as your objective. If the former, you can easily get over 2k with just barbs and archers. That is, destroy all exteriror building and buildings sitting on the perimeter of the base. This strategy should get you to low 2k easily

You get two big advantages with the minion combo if you can spare the DE.
Less than half elixir cost.
30 min build time if you have 4 lvl 9+ barracks. (not including spells)
