New Dark Troop: the Mercenary!
Hey and welcome! An idea for a possible new dark troop came to my mind today, and that is...
The Mercenary! Quick notice, you can select what mostly suits you in the poll. You can choose multiple options, specifying the first of the three with one of the last 3 options. Thanks!
Description
The Mercenary would be unlocked at level 7 dark barracks. He would have normal speed, similar to the barbarian, but would have about 2 or 3 times its Hitpoints, and would have a bit higher Damage per second. I believe they should occupy about 3-4 spaces.
Description: After bribing him with some of your darkest Dark Elixir, this muscular fellow agreed on joining your army. His love for loot is limitless: the more he sees, the stronger his will to fight becomes!
Appearance: Mercenaries are proud, young men in search of riches. They will have tunics and long capes and will attack with scimitars. They are ground troops and cannot target air troops.
Now what's this troop's unique ability? He will deal about 1.5x damage to resource buildings or, more precisely, to buildings that use resources to defend! This means that, although not having a Favourite target, the Mercenary will deal more damage to collectors and storages, but also inferno towers and xbows!
When attacking Inferno towers and xbows, the mercenary will steal some of the fuel of the defenses, and those resources will add to the possible total loot. Since the Fully charged xbows and inferno towers respectively have 1500 and 750 rounds (don't know how that works with infernos), every Mercenary's strike would take away 8 rounds from the xbow and 4 from the inferno towers. This means that inferno towers and xbows that aren't full will end their ammo much faster if attacked by these tenacious troops. When under attack by these troops, xbows and inferno towers will also have a slight decrease in attack speed/damage, but it should be minimal. Keep those defenses loaded and guarded, chief!
Troop usage
For now I've thought of 2 ways you could use these troops:
-Collector raids: being more resilient and dealing more damage to resources, these troops would be the perfect choice for collector attacks, if supported with other troops such as archers and wizards. Only flaw would be the cost of dark elixir to make enough to tank the defenses, but it should not be a big problem.
-Inside the core: A tactic would be to get these guys in the middle, obviously with tankier units taking cannon and archer tower damage. Being more resilient, they would be able to survive multi-targe inferno towers for longer, all the while draining them of their fuel. Same would go with xbows. The fact that these 2 powerful weapons would end their ammo quickly would give a chance to medium Hitpoint troops, such as barbarians, hogs and wizards, to survive a tad longer and make the difference.
Now the problem would be targeting, but in the end it shouldn't really exist... For these troops to do their job properly, there would have to be a target preference, but it would have to be both resources and defences? I do have a solution to this possible problem thanks to replies, so just keep on reading!
Section 2: The Mercenary Commander
The Mercenaries are getting tired of running around without knowing where those pesky xbows are, so you sent your villagers on a journey for help. They did not come back empty-handed , but with some mysterious ancient scrolls!
Description: After hearing what wonderful possibilities of wealth awaited them by raiding villages, some Mercenaries decided to smarten up and study ancient Goblinology and Giantology scrolls. These war experts will lead your Mercenaries to victory with their newfound skills!
Description
The Mercenary Commander would be unlocked at level 8 dark barracks, right after the Mercenary. These intelligent veterans are bulkier than their subordinates, but they deal less damage than them and their damage doesn't increase on resource buildings.
Their Favourite targets are the Xbows and Infero Towers. They would be immune to spring traps, would be slightly faster than Giants, but less than barbarians (14 movement speed?) and would have to occupy more space than the healer at least, because of their ability. Every 6-8 seconds, these warriors will give a powerful shouted order to those wondering subordinates and show them where the nearest xbow/inferno tower is, precisely up to 5-6, in about 3-4 tiles (should not be too big), and these will lose interest in their previous target and follow their leaders. The number of possible commanded troops and area of effect of the shout would increase with level upgrades.
Troop usage
Offensive Strategy: Mercenary commanders would be more resilient than max level Giants, giving them the opportunity to resist splash damage and not die as quickly as their subordinates. They would be able to act as tanks, but the space they occupy and their cost (which should not be low) would not encourage using them as that. They are best used in small groups, followed by many mercenaries, to fully take advantage of their unique ability. An example of an army setup could be with golems, wizards and Mercenary commanders and Mercenaries (GoWiMeMe?)
Their perk would be pretty useless in attacks against against Th8s and lower, due to the absence of the Favourite targets, but that is why they're unlocked at Th10. If attacking bases with no x-bows or inferno towers, the commanders would aim for defenses, but would either make Mercenaries target defenses in general or not shout (I prefer the second one: poor th8s!).
Defensive Strategy: I believe commanders would be the last choice for people that intend to use them in defense, given their space occupied (as I said, more or equal to healer, so at least 14), low Hitpoints compared to 3 Giants and movement speed. Their only time to shine would be against attacking golems and PEKKAS: assuming Mercenaries occupied 3 spaces, you could fit 1 of their leaders with 7 of them in a maxed clan castle, and the commander would be able to point them against the strongest HP target.
These troops would be the worst choice in defense I believe, as 2-3 shots from wizards would kill them quickly I if they bunch up, which would occur frequently.
Special Traits and Elixir clouds!
To introduce something a bit different, here's my idea: since M.C and Mercenaries are almost as greedy as goblins, thanks to their improved intelligence, they found out a way to steal the very life force of troops!
No, this does not mean they deal more damage to attacking troops.
When a troop in offense dies by their sword, these 2 new troops would extract it's essence before it disappears. You know those small graves that appear on your base after you demolished an attacker? Well M.C and M. would make not make graves appear, but instead clouds of either Dark or normal Elixir. These clouds would spawn even on your buildings, unlike graves, giving you the ability to receive and loot them without having them spawn on empty spaces. These clouds will not be seen by players attacking you, so can't be used to limit base view.
When you click on the clouds, they will give you a higher elixir or dark elixir reward (This would only work if the enemy troops were attacked at least once from M.C and M.) than graves. I was thinking the reward should be proportionate to the elixir that was spent on that troop, along with the size of th cloud. Maybe a 5th of the spent Dark elixir for dark troops (a maxed golem costs 750, you would get 100 if you took it down, plus 25 per each golemite, so 150 if you took it down completely) and same for elixir troops (Maxed PEKKAS are 50k, that means 10K elixir). You will not receive clouds when taking down skeletons spawned by witches or lava pups spawned by lava hounds. Remember, this will only work if they were attacked at least once by Mercenary-type troops, so you need to be tactful!
This is pretty much it, thanks for reading and thanks again for the early replies! I will appreciate comments and tips! :)
Clas on!
so like the warrior of clash
it should recover health not by ability but by getting resources... depends if its a troop or a hero,
