Skull Walls with elixir - with a twist

We all know the struggles of excess elixir at TH8. When you are a midway - maxed TH8, you constantly have max elixir storages and nothing helpful to spend it on.
So here's my idea:
Return the ability to upgrade lvl 7-8 walls with elixir... But you can only upgrade them if you have over the max amount of storage to have the max amount of elixir stolen from you. For example: I believe the max amount of elixir available to be raided requires 2.14 million elixir. You would be able to upgrade a wall if you had over 2.64 million elixir, so you could use the excess elixir but not drain elixir from the economy.

Forgot to add that even though some elixir would be dumped into walls at TH7-TH8, you wouldn't see a change at all in loot, you just probably wouldn't see completely full storages anymore. And completely full storages, at TH8, 6 million elixir, are no different from a third full storages, 2.14 million elixir when you are raiding. Again, please post your comments and thoughts below!

I personally think it would help. Then again users will call out how it wouldn't make sense to the average player. A lot of people would be upset that the upgrade "isn't working" or something stupid

Hmm... Perhaps there could be an error message if you tried to upgrade a wall without meeting the requirements like "Error - You must have over 2.14 million elixir to upgrade that wall to level 8 with elixir!" or "Error - You must have over 1.56 million elixir to upgrade that wall to level 7 with elixir!" (2.14 million elixir for TH8, 1.56 million elixir for TH7)
Also, if a TH8 upgraded a wall from level 6 to level 7, they would still need 2.34 million elixir before being able to upgrade it.

No. Instead, it should be 1 wall per 12 hour period. Why make things so complicated?

I know that there are a lot of other threads on this topic, but I believe that my idea could work for the lvl 7 and 8 walls. Sorry to confuse you guys. Also, fine, it may be a legitimate suggestion, but it would get annoying because times to upgrade walls would get later and later unless you knew the exact time that you could upgrade a wall, and I don't even know if that would help reduce elixir - I know it wouldn't for me! I am a pretty active farmer though.

We can't implement a system that accommodates "some" players. Like you said, you are an active farmer; not everyone is. If you have all those extra elixir, try donating more troops to your clan. It's a win win.

Well, for example, the clan war opt out/in only helps SOME players: the warrers. So that isn't true.
Also, virtually all mid to late TH8s experience full elixir storages. The problem needs to be solved somehow. This could do it. Just google search "TH8 Elixir Problem" and you will see a lot of complaints about too much elixir. Your argument is invalid. Sorry dude.

I'm not sure if there would be an elixir wall disaster, because you would still have max loot available for raiding showing, just not full storages. It wouldn't affect the bases' loot you found.

I made a similar request months ago around this. The difference in my suggestion was that your total available to loot could not drop *after* you built a wall so it was still max. I think in spirit you intend the same thing though.

It would certainly remove the concern about the economy. Its all still there for the taking as far as raiders are concerned.

i think they should bring back the upgrading walls with elixir, only instead of what you said, xp is earned for upgrading a certain number of walls. just my idea...:cool:

The first lix wall updated was so bad they took almost all of it away.

Maybe you missed the intent of this suggestion. If a TH8 has 2,142,857 elixir in storage (not including the 1k in the TH itself), then their storages can be raided for 300,000 elixir (301k total when you count the TH). If a TH8 has 2,642,857 elixir in storage, they still can only be raided for a maximum of 301k. So if that TH8 were allowed to spend 500k on a skull wall, they would still have 2,142,857 elixir left.

In other words, if a TH8 has so much elixir that they could buy a wall with elixir, and still be showing the maximum available elixir during a raid, then why not let them buy that wall? Doing so would not reduce the amount of elixir they are making available to the economy, plain and simple. This would not be a repeat of the elixir walls disaster from last year.

This suggestion was made a couple times last December. Look for posts by the forum member named Goobers.

Side note: Yes, after they buy a wall, they could queue up dragons and wall breakers in their barracks to "hide" some elixir, so technically they could make less than the maximum 300k elixir available for a raid. But that's always been available as a trick, and not every one does it. You have to have full camps, which means that you have to wait for your camps to refill after your last raid, before you can fully queue up your barracks. Most people don't wait 20-60 minutes for their camps to fill up, just so they can hide a measly 400k elixir give or take.

An interesting suggestion for elixir walls, but it could be too complicated.
Increase the elixir cap to 3 million.

Also, if a TH9 or TH10 tried to upgrade a level 7 or 8 wall, would they not have any restrictions, or would they have to meet the requirements with max elixir available to be raided? Leave your thoughts and questions below guys!

EDIT: I personally think that the requirements would have to be met, simply for the reason that they wouldn't be able to dump all their elixir into walls and have less than 200k elixir.

i support this idea...many people like me have no use of elixer after a while halfway through a th8 ... this " twist" should be able to eep the economy of clash nice and healthy !!! great idea

I'm a computer programmer and a math geek, so it's easy for me to think about things like this.

I don't think Supercell will implement something like this, due to the complexity of the user interface. The math would be easy, but I think the interface design could be confusing. Don't get me wrong: i think it can be done. I just don't think it will. If it does get done, I think it's the best compromise, and I would be fine with making any level wall available with elixir, using this system.

And yes, I would apply this to any level wall for any TH level. So a TH9 would need a little over 3.1M to buy a level 7 wall, and about 3.9M to buy a level 9 wall, and 5.9M to buy a level 10 wall. In all such cases, the TH9 would have 2.9M elixir left after buying the wall, enough to meet the cap of 350k elixir available to raid.

A TH10 would need 4.2M to buy a level 7 wall, and 8M to buy a level 11 wall. After buying the wall, the TH10 would have 4M elixir left.

A lot of people complained about this suggestion. They said that needing 8M elixir to buy a level 11 wall was too much. Never mind that 6 months ago, you couldn't buy a level 11 wall with elixir, no matter how much you had. So you were going to be sitting at 8M elixir all the time anyway, once you ran out of things to spend elixir on.

In my opinion, the point of making elixir available for walls is not to make it so you can buy walls twice as fast. The point is to make it so that elixir doesn't go to waste (because you have nothing to spend it on).

I agree with you on this respect; let's work on making an easier interface for the user? An idea off the top of my head is when trying to upgrade a wall without enough elixir, it will take you to an info page maybe? Anyone is welcome to come up with their ideas and post them here!

Another idea would be to simply let TH8s upgrade their walls to level 9, so they would have a way to dump some of their elixir.

Great suggestion, OP. I hope SC listens to/considers this one. They did such a good thing when they first introduced it. When they took it away the next update, I was pretty upset. I'm still upset actually. I have nothing to spend my elixir on.

When you take away elixir at the bottom of the food chain, the higher guys do not get any of the elixir. So the economy crippled. With lvl 8 walks at th8, it's a major issue, as lvl 8 walls aren't overly expensive and a th8 can quickly max out elixir then channel everything to his/her walls. So there is no more elixir for th9's and 10's. The reason SC made it lvl 9 walls and up was because those wall upgrades are insanely expensive, 1 mil for 9, 3 for 10, and 4 for 11. With that, the troop upgrades are extremely high, 6-8mil average. So a th9 is storing mass amounts of elixir more often and is a capped raid. Also, by the time a th9 maxes out wlixir, most or all of the walls would already be lvl 9 so a th9 is holding close to 3 mil usually, this makes it easy for th9's and 10's to attack them and get the elixir.
So the wall upgrading with elixir option doesn't cripple the economy for th9's and th10's when it is at lvl 9+, however at lvl 8+, it will defenitely effect th9's and also th10's, as there would be no more elixir to raid, thus, crippling the economy.

Already lvl 8 walls are hard to upgrade at th8, what about lvl 9 walls? You just want to make it harder dont you, even then, that option would cripple the economy and SC would change it to lvl 10+

I don't think you understand my point: this will not change the amount of loot you find. Read Xitra's first post on the subject, he explained it better than I ever could have.

I totally agree with you. But you missed the point of the suggestion. If implemented as suggested, a TH8 would not be able to spend all their elixir. They would still be offering the cap (300k elixir). They would only be able to spend elixir that is truly in excess of what could be raided. This would have virtually no impact on the economy.

I say virtually, because obviously it would have an impact on the economy. Those TH8's would have stronger walls (purchased with elixir), which would make them harder to raid. They also might choose not to use crazy expensive armies, since they no longer feel the need to "burn" elixir that would otherwise be useless to them.

But this suggestion is not going to reduce the elixir in circulation for TH9's to farm.

I'm fine with just towmhall 8 walls. Level 7 walls weren't even hard to do. So I suggest since you THINK you have the solution and you MIGHT have it. That's you choose 8 instead of 8 and 7

It would be much better and more balanced, if spending walls with elixir cost MORE than with gold. EX: 500k gold for lvl 8, and 600k with elixir. Something like that

We need to think about everyone. Evidentially, you have no experience with TH8 and its struggles involving elixir, which means you are TH7 or below, or you rushed TH8 to get to TH9. Some people simply aren't like that. They need to max everything out, or at least most of it, before upgrading to the next TH level, like me. For the TH8 maxers, this problem needs to be solved.
On a side note, I didn't say that your strategy didn't work, just that a lot of TH8s wouldn't agree with it.

i think it would be a good idea to be able to upgrade the walls just when your elixir storage is half full or something. Or maybe just always have 7&8 walls be able to be upgraded always by elixir. Just some thoughts

I like this idea. The problem with the last time is there was no elixir at all. This would seemingly fix that.

The main idea of this thread is also good imo because there wouldnt be any changes in the available loot for a raid.

Ok I had misinterpreted, my bad, im sorry, but I still don't want this to happen, simply because it's not needed. Elixir wasnt used to upgrade walls before and everything was ok then, but now since SC introduced it for a few weeks, you want it back. Lvl 8 walls are actually really cheap and do not need elixir to be upgraded, just time consuming when you ignore them and leave them for the end. When you hit lvl 9 and 10 walls, you'll see how bad it really is.

Lvl 8 walls are actually really cheap and do not need elixir to be upgraded, just time consuming when you ignore them and leave them for the end. When you hit lvl 9 and 10 walls, you'll see how bad it really is.

Yes, I realize that everyone did their walls at TH8 with gold before. So did everyone at TH9 and TH10. So saying everyone did it with gold before is a weak argument, unless you're proposing we take elixir walls away from TH9's and TH10's as well. (On a sidenote, I fully support taking away L9 elixir walls from TH9, but letting them keep L10 elixir walls, as another possible compromise. 1M elixir is too cheap, drains almost as much elixir from the economy as L8 walls.)

Yes, I realize that level 8 walls are cheap (compared to L9+). But the point is, even if you don't upgrade a single wall to level 8, you WILL have excess elixir by the time all your defenses are maxed, unless you farm with all dragons all the time. The gold costs at TH8 are something like 40M-50M higher than the elixir costs, including all the research (which takes months), and not including walls (which are another 112M gold on top!).

There simply is no way to avoid excess elixir at TH8. And when I say excess, I don't just mean that you have "a lot". I mean that you will have so much, that it will go to waste. You won't be able to spend it, so either your storages will overflow (meaning any elixir you raid just get erased from the economy), or you'll be giving it away during raids (which is great for the economy, but it still means you don't get to spend something you had to work to earn).

Having an outlet where a player could spend their elixir, even an inefficient one (like 2x the cost), would be better for the game than the current setup. It wouldn't be so much of an issue, if it weren't for TH9 players being able to dump 1M elixir any time they want. Those same TH9 players then tell the TH8's to suck it up or upgrade to TH9. Pretty hypocritical if you ask me.

Anyway, the OP's solution would provide one possible method to help TH8's out. They would be able to spend elixir for walls, but only when they are at a point in their base progression, where they have truly excess elixir. That is, they have so much elixir (more than 2.6M), and nothing else more important to spend it on. They will still probably get raided for that elixir by TH9's, giving 270k elixir back into the economy (300k minus loot penalty). So there is still a "cost" to elixir walls: the risk of being raided for 270k+ elixir. If you buy a wall for 500k elixir, and get raided for 270k (because you were required to maintain the raidable cap), that wall cost you an effective 770k elixir. I'm okay with that.

My idea is basically the same as your first idea, but mine deals with the loot cap while yours deals with the size of the storages. Your second idea was already introduced into the game but then removed because too many people upgraded walls with elixir so there was no elixir available to be raided.

The problem is that those armies take too long to train, and they still don't keep active TH8s' elixir down. Even when I train them overnight, I still keep building my elixir, and I know many other TH8s with that problem, they make more elixir than they lose. Also, why shoudn't I say the same to you? Remove elixir walls and just use expensive armies!! No. You would protest for a good reason, and we still do need a fix to the extra elixir

Read my earlier post about the 1 wall per 12 hours, the one where I say that it would be awkward and you would have to plan your schedule around it.

The ability to upgrade walls was only here for a few weeks. Its not like they took away a mainstay of the game. It was an experiment that failed is all. And now having failed they should not try again.

This is indeed something that has been suggested 1000 times like pointed out above. Even the 'twist' was nothing new, that was about 500 of the 1000 and I think a bunch even used that same 'but with a twist' wording. in the end its really nothing new. Just another request to have them go back to something that was not successful the first time.

I want to stay away from the math and point out that they already made a good choice to put their stake in the gropd at the level 9s and should not get into messing with it. All these threads trying to barter them to try again they are just showing good business sense ignoring. If they ever did this (or any of the others) another guy will come along wanting it for lower, or not wanting to need so much in their storages. Its really better that they just stick with the level 9. I was not happy about it either, I had a lix surplus while I worked to get there until recently I figured out what to do with it . (While making level 8s go ahead and use surplus lix to move some of them to level 9s right away. get a jump on the future)

Well, thank you for your input, but I really do think this needs to be fixed. It has a lot of positive support from TH8s, but TH9s say no because they need elixir, and they get it from farmimg off TH8s. However, my solution would not change the amount of loot in the economy, and would have virtually no effect except for TH8s having more skull walls and they wouldn't use crazy armies. To repeat: this wouldn't change the loot. It should be done.

when i was TH7 i start attack with empty storages and i continue until both my gold and elixir storages become full and saved them for my busy days, but now in TH8, i have no more gold in my storages... why? i have to upgrade my walls faster, before upgrading my TH....

i'm posting here, because i'm full of elixirs and empty of golds, i dont want to waste half of my raid loot because of full storages

and i hope TH9,10 players understand that they also will profit with this change...

Bump for SC to hopefully reconsider. I would say no to lvl 7 walls being upgraded with elixir, but definitely lvl 8 walls, using the OP's formula (or something similar). I finally upgraded to TH9 after having wasted literally tens of millions of elixir. Guess what problem I have already as a TH9 (after about 6 months)? Excess elixir. My walls are all at lvl 8 and I have max elixir. Now I have to halt my gold upgrades so I can upgrade a couple walls to lvl 9, just so I can drop a million elixir on them to bring them to lvl 10. This is making things take way, way longer.

Anyway, I can deal with that, but my alt account is TH8 now and as run into the same problem too... nothing to spend elixir on. Many, many TH8's are suffering with excess elixir. I'm at the point where I just put my elixir storages undefended in the corner so people can just take it, since it's going to waste otherwise. SC: There is a problem when players have to resort to that. Please find a solution to this problem. Don't just completely dismiss it since your tried the change once and it didn't work. The OP has a great solution, and there could be other solutions to find middle ground too. Please look at this issue again. Thank you.
