I'm thinking wizards and giants?
I'd say lvl 6 loons are a good addition, or a lavahound to distract.
For Clan war? I usualy use:
1 Giant/hogrider to lure out clan castle
7 Archer 2 Mages to kill the clan castle
Rest depends on your unit level
9 Dragons
or
4 Dragons to Tank
50 Minions (Just spread them and take care of air bombs and wizzard towers)
Minions make twice the damage of a dragon and like the dragon, they have no favourite target, so the army stick together.
or
4 Dragons to tank
20 Minions
12 Loons (should be at least level 4, better level 5)
First send in the dragons and minions, when the air defense starts targeting your dragon send in your loons, rage and heal on them
or
7 Dragons (or a mix of 4 Dragons+30 minions)
8 hoog riders
If you can reach the air defense good with your hog riders, just send them in first in a pack of 4 to kill 2 air defenses and support each with healing spell, than send in dragons and let them rage.

TH8 same 25 cc - 5 max loons
Wait to deploy cc loons, flank the odd AD with the loons once the dragons draw fire, takes a little practice but the attack is pretty much point and click. Look for dragloon or dragon attack with loon CC on youtube. there are some vids. Against most TH7 and 8 the loons will last a while and get the job done on the flank, rage and heal dragons as needed.
Attack from opposite side of TH where cc is( attack point ------ TH --------CC ) the cc troops will draw the dragons to the TH, rage over 1st AD, heal over TH and try to coordinate dropping the final rage when loons and dragons are close to another AD. Worked wonderfully for me as a TH7 and 8, currently is the preferred attack for our TH7 and 8's.
I don't know how many failed raids I've seen when someone mixes ground troops with dragons. That is almost always a waste. Either go all drags, so dragloon.
The only time you should mix ground troops is if it is easy for ground troops to take out an air defense, and that doesn't come up very often.
For th8, ten minions or 4 loons.
I personally do not like to go with less than ten dragons, so a dragon in cc usually to make up for it.
Minions:
Use 2-3 minions to create the fire-break to funnel your dragons where you want them to go (usually toward the two strongest AD's on one side). Remaining minions can be used as cheap ways to test for air traps (one seeking air mine that kills a minion makes a huge difference instead of hitting a dragon) and to take out undefended structures that are distant (builder huts in corners as an example). Remaining minions thrown in behind dragons for aded DPs. Can also use two minions with a dragon to counter a cc dragon without having to use 2 dragons.
A level four minion at th8 does 46 dps. A level three dragon has 180 dps. Balloons at level five have 108.
So for 20 spaces (max th8 troops):
(1) Dragon: 180 dps, 2300 hp, movement speed 16
(10)Minion: 460 dps, 720 hp, movement speed 32
(4) Balloons: 432 dps, 1560 hp, movement speed 10
Loons have less dps and attack only defenses, but can sometimes be hard to get where you want them to go.
Minions are pretty straightforward and their pathing is simpler to predict, but they crumple fast.
A few loons sent behind (or barely in front of) dragons is also another viable strategy but it is very situational.
You can also use two lons and five minions withten dragons. A few minions to take out a pesky cannon in order to give your loons a straight shot at an air defense (with a dragon tanking) can be very effective.
Overall, you have to weigh the loss in resilience against the gain in dps countered with the movement speed of all three air troops. Minions are alot more fragile and slightly more dps than loons, and they move over three times as fast. Loons also tend to clump up when moppingnup, so some of the effective dps is lost when a 610hp barracks is pummelled by 4 loons at the end of a raid. On the other hand, loons have splash damage which can make up for that.
Fr th9, max loons are pretty phenomenal damage dealers.

For the right base, 20 archers and 9 dragons.
This works well if all defenses are clustered in the center with mines, camps etc out to the edge of the map. Put an archer or two on each outside building so the dragons go to the center and kill defenses rather than going around picking off mines while they get shot down.
Bring 6-8 Balloons with them would be great!

Nothing, All drags work fine, although if you have lvl 6 balloons you can use a couple of those infront of the drags.
