My heroes are 15 AQ and 13 BK at the end of TH9 buildingwise, so I'm not sure how that compares to your DE expectations. I find gi-barch in C2-3 to be just fine for my farming purposes. Pushing to M3+ with lavaloonion for a clan event right now and plan to live off the win bonus for a while. I'll probably switch back to gi-barch for actual loot ;)
Probably better to focus on gold and elixir for walls as this is harder to come by in th10. DE becomes easier, so get it at th0.

GiBarch at crystal 3. faster and cheaper.
Go for bases with high DE, I'd say over 2.5k, and do loonion. Do not add the lava. Or barch.:smirk:
Barching in crystal 3. I get 2500 DE an hour
Getting enough DE in Gold 3 to keep a hero down at all times using goblins/archers/barbs. This is 100K/7 day upgrade times (21/20 heroes on one and 15/15 on other). Since the dark elixir has trickled down to lower THs, many 8s have enough to raid. No boosting at all. I just use fast training troops and go every 20 minutes.
