Do I suck that much?

I'm a nearly maxed TH8 and I've been playing coc for about 1 year.

When farming, I generally use barch; when I was th7 I used to attack in war with giants/wizards/healer and I was pretty decent.

As of now, I've noticed that I'm probably not that good at attacking.

I use Dragons pretty much always in war but I'm not able to 3-star anyone without asking for help to someone else.
When I'm attacking, I just don't know what to do.

Whether to lure cc or not... where to start deploying troops... when I should use spells etc. and I probably have some difficulties in understanding troops AI.

This also refelcts on me building a base: I have to rip one on the web because if I try to build something by myself I end by messing up everything :/

If I have troubles in using dragons, I just cannot imagine how I will suck with GoWiWi and other similar strategies in the future.

Is there a way I can practicce with attacking, or maybe some youtube channels I can start following to actually learn how to attack and in general become familiar with coc attacks?

Even when I watch yt videos that explain how to attack with some specific troops, and they explain things very well, with a screenshot of the base and showing you where troops will go etc. I kinda understand what they say, but I'm not able to apply that to any base I attack.

Plz help me, what am I doing wrong :/

Check out gadi hh on YouTube he's the best by far from what I've found with evaluating attacks and different strategies as well as design tips for defense. I believe he's well known on the forums but I've only recently started on them. Check out his playlists when you get a chance.

I've been using lvl 2 dragons for a while now (lightning lvl 3, heal lvl 3, and rage lvl 1) and I've only failed on 3 starring one maxed th8. I typically can only 2 star th9s but a rushed th9 with weak AD I can sometimes 3 star.
This is all with the help of Wryhorn's guide:

Make sure to look at all of the guides as you need to use certain compositions for certain bases.
(Honestly most of the time I just use all dragons with a dragon in the CC. Sometimes I would have 5 maxed loons in my CC depending on the base)

Since you say it's a bit difficult for you to actually apply the attack that you learn from the guides, if you sleep or you have time off from farming or you know you won't be playing an hour and a half or so, build a dragon army and 3 lightning spells (You should have plenty of spare elixer since you're at th8). When you get back from whatever you're doing, go find a base th8 or th9 and start practicing hitting them without the help of your clan mates. Practice attacking th8s with lightning spell first as thats easier than using rage/heal. Then once you feel comfortable constantly 3 starring th8s using lightning, trying using rage/heal.

Most th8s were easy to 3 star with 3 lightning spells but i found it nearly impossible to 3 star any th9s with 3 lightning spells. There are certain bases you should hit with lightning and certain ones with rage/heal and Wryhorn's guide covers that really well.

As for gowiwi/gowipe I havn't yet even unlocked any of those troops yet so no idea there. But my advice would be to still build an army everytime you are away from the game for the allotted amount of time required to build that army composition, come back and practice. Then when you war you'll be in good shape!

Seems like Thien and Rake have found the secret sauce -- right attack based on base layout. Also, as you get to AD666 start looking at non-air (only air on that if non-air attacks seems non viable).

This is totally right....I have a mid ranged TH7 as my second account that I just fool with. I started bringing him to war once I got level 2 drags, I came across this thread at random and have gained good insight from it.

Maybe you keep going for bases that are too hard?

at your level, you could attack a th5 by using any random set of troops, you probably wouldn't have to fill up your camps, and you could let a cat or dog paw your screen and get 3 stars.

The stronger bases beat up the lower bases, this is the way the game works.

if you attacked a th6, you probably also could pick any random set of troops and be in a total NyQuil haze and totally win, even if you fell asleep midway through.

So given the difficulties you are expressing, maybe you just need to pick bases that are lower and match the criteria for the kind of attack you want to try really well.

mastery starts by starting simple and learning from mistakes slowly. Watch your replays. Watch other attacks, not just on YouTube but attacks on your base and on other clan bases.

build your confidence, learn from smaller mistakes, try to go for bases that you know you have at least an 80 % confidence that you won't have an epic fail.

Hogs at high TH8 are best for me. I do ok with dragons with the lvl 6 ADs, but lvl 4 Hogs and lvl 5 heals do the job on a max TH8. GoWiPe is fun but at TH8 is kind of weak for the 3 star, 2 star all day, even on TH9s.

This is what you need.

Whatever the videos and guides say might as well be gibberish if you can't apply it to the base you want to attack. For that you need to acquire to just see the base and tell right away how an attack should play out. This is an mental skill which is acquired via practice (ie. attacking and seeing attacks play out).

The other thing that will help a lot is to not just repeat a deployment formula but try to understand why an attack works or not. There's always this key moment when something happens which makes an attack go wrong. A small change would make that key moment go right instead. But for that you need to be able to adapt and change little things of the attack.

The worst thing you can do is to stop trying. The second worst thing is to keep trying but doing the same over and over. Learning requires trying out different things (even small changes help).

Please refrain from such statements. Lvl 3 dragons + 25 CC troops can 3-star ANY TH8 base (even maxed) with hogs lvl 5 or loons lvl 6 in your CC. Assuming that heal and rage have been upgraded alongside dragons.

Air-units have shown their superiority from TH8 and above.

I personally try not to use dragon attacks anymore against TH8s, unless the base is really asking for a dragon attack.

Some bases die very easy to dragon attacks, but others not so much. So I can either try to force a 3 star with dragon attacks anyway, or try looking for an easier alternative.

Maybe hogs, or maybe this Giant-Pekka-healer attack which I devised myself. Not saying these other attacks can guarantee a 3 star, but neither does drags (for me at least).

Besides, there's plenty of drag attacks done by other clan members. So if a base is really weak against drags then it will likely fall to other attackers, anyway.

When I attack with all dragons I will deploy them in a group they will almost always split up and I lay rage/heal spells when they group up in groups of 3 or four this strategy will get 2 star on th 9 and 3 star on th8
