I currently have maxed th8 defenses including traps and walls. I have a lvl 10 BK and maxed the troops that i use in war and farming. I decided to upgrade to th9. what might be the best use of my 26k gems in hand? Please help me. :)

Easy. Gem your offensive upgrades. Not sure if you are going in with full storages. Gem your lab and sf time. Once lab is up, gem loons, giants, archers or whatever troops you will be using most. Then gem the camps to get 220 space. This will get your offense up fast and you will miss the dreaded period of being a th9 with a th8 offense. Also, get the AQ right away. If you don't have the DE, gem it. Then try to get her to 5 asap.
Try to gem as little resources as possible, because they take a ton of gems. Just boost barracks and make as much as possible, then gem the difference if you are close and need to log.
Be smart, you don't need everything at once, but it will get you going g fast. Use your gold to build both xbows and get them going to two when they finish.
Prioritize offense, don't gem any defense. Make sure you have full storages before your th9 completed. Upgrade your clan castle, spell factory, lab and army camp first.
the only build time I would consider to gem are spell factory, lab and heroes upgrade once they are level 15 and above. Gem your spell factory upgrade time if you are involved in constant war. Gem it few hours before you plan to attack.
Gem your lab build time to level 7 once you have enough resources to upgrade your troop so that you can start upgrading right away.
save the rest of the gems to boost barracks and for your heroes upgrade time when it takes one week to complete each upgrade.
Boosting, builder, heroes.
If you want to gem build time focus on offense as others have said. Lab, SF, and camps. Then farm farm farm. The only other build time you should gem is hero builds. Boost rax, heros and if needed SF to farm.
Pretty much these. The best use of gems in the game I believe barracks boosting, second gem heroes time upgrade. I assume you have 5 builders.Quote:

I had roughly 19k gems (accumulated from buying 1200 or 2500 gems when I had extra money) when I turned th9. I had full storages and collectors and cc storage when I turned, and I got all the new defenses up (gemmed the archer tower's lower levels build time and first 2 upgrades of the air def and wiz tower), I didn't gem the xbow build time though.
I farmed elixir for all the camps (2.250m elixir) and gemmed the build cost when I had enough elixir for the next camp to upgrade.
I farmed the AQ straight to lv5, she was upgrading constantly, farming the DE then gemming the build time when the cost was reasonable (usually at around 200gem cost).
Got all the new walls at lv8, and I farmed the barch elixir costs (4.5m and 6m elix respectively), then gemmed the time when I had enough elixir to upgrade the next. I also upgraded my baloons to max immediately. Then, I upgraded my dark troops as well (witch 2 and golem 3 and 4), again farming the resources needed and gemming the build time when I had enough resources for the next troop level or next troop to upgrade.
I also gemmed the xbow 2 upgrade when it was down to 5 days (800 or so gem cost) to conserve my gems. 1 of my xbows are currently going to 3 now.
