You can already buy gems with gold.
Real world gold that is.
In all seriousness, Supercell makes their money from gems.
To be able to buy gems with ingame money means that Supercell cannot make a profit.
So this a bad idea.
Unfortunately, there are some players that can not afford to buy gems using real world currency.
Yet, they get a lot of gold and elixir that they could use to buy gems, so in my opinion, this really would not have that much an effect on the money the game brings in.
Buying gems is what keeps the game free. It would be hard for them to make updates to the game and keep it fun if they were not profiting from players buying gems. Also, this would create a huge unbalancing of resources in the game. For instance you could stay at max Th8 and keep maxing storages with gold turning into gems and turning around and putting it into d e. It would make maxing heros way to easy.
Okay, but what about setting a limit, for only being able to buy up to 100 gems with g/e for set amount of time?
Like for example, You buy 100 gems today for gold, then can not buy anymore with gold or elixir for say, 2 weeks.
