As a new TH9 I can 3 star maxed TH8s with a GiBarch army and a couple of spells. I take great pleasure it attacking the full skull bases with my farming army and taking the all the elixir and DE from their maxed collectors.

I struggle to beat bases with lvl2+ x-bows and try to avoid them unless they have huge amounts of DE.

For me personally, it's worth it. For me, it isn't a race to see who can upgrade fastest, instead I like to take my time and enjoy the game as much as possible. In fact, even when I'm maxed I probably still won't go to th9, because I still can't confidently 2-3 star every war, I wouldn't want to go to th9 without mastering th8. Having said that, you do definatly have a point, but that's just not the way I play(:

Nope, instead of using all my troops to get gold and elixir, I just use half of them to get the gold alone, in fact right now I only have just over 2 million elixir in my storages.

Absolutely the OP should upgrade to town hall 9. Crazy to sit at max def TH8 with full elixir and an empty lab. It makes no sense whatsoever.

That is perfectly good way of playing and I admire your dedication to maxing the base.

I am a min/maxer and want to maximise my play time to get the most out of the game in the time I play so try and make every hour count.

I just try and give guys at TH8 an alternative to the "you must max" mantra that gets spouted all over these forums, with no back up apart from the "thats what I did so it must be right" mentality.

The game has changed since you can put elixir into TH9 walls and many people aren't able to work out that this changes the best way to play.

I'd recommend doing all skull if you want to do at least legos at TH9. Walls alone cost a billion at TH9, so if you want to upgrade those, doing all skulls is worth it at th8. Wasting elixir isnt a big deal really, you get used to it soon enough. If you are bothered by full pumps, cook alot of donation troops. It will help your clannies and boost your level. My pov on it anyways, good luck with your journey :)

You say the aim is to max walls at TH9 and say that wasting elixir isn't a big deal in the same paragraph?

Not only is gold easier and quicker to farm at TH9 to do your skulls, for every 500k of gold you spend you can sink 4 million of the elixir you are throwing away at Th8 into the walls making the progress much much faster.

You can move up now, here are the reasons:
1) everyday you delay your th upgrade, you lose almost 3k dark elixir due to maxed pumps

2) in the first month of th9, you will spend 50mil alone on elixir upgrades. Ignore all gold upgrades in the first month except clan castle and you will have 90 more skulls when you start doing defenses

3) loot is good as th9. Think about this, whether you donate dragons, ignore elixir raids or overflow on elixir, the end result is the same, you waste precious elixir. So you already hit 50% loot penalty now if you don't upgrade. If you upgrade and hit th8 collectors, you lose 10% loot, worth it? There are loads of them in gold1-3 all the time

:rolleyes: ABSOLUTELY do NOT upgrade your townhall! :saywhat: JUST keep doing walls, max them, leave some to do while th is upgrading.. it will be WORTH it in the long run.. YOU will REGRET upgrading your th without maxed walls! you will just wish that you did them at townhall 8... gold is easier at th 8 because you can still hit th 7, do them while you can still do!

And for those saying "upgrade because your wasting builder and lab time" yadi yadi ya.. who said this game was a race? Yes its not efficient at all to stay at th 8 with idle builders and idle lab.. but doing SKULL walls at th 9, which you could HAVE done at th 8 (FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENT) is not efficient either!

do you war? if your clan wars, go to TH9. as a TH9 you'll be able to easily 3 star any TH8 you go against and you should be able to 2 star just about any TH9 you see. upgrading your TH will help your clan in wars. the extra troop space and extra spell are huge bonuses in wars. you said your defenses are maxed, your BK is going to 10, and you're done with elixir upgrades. there's nothing left to do at TH8. go to TH9 and help your clan in wars.

Had a mate in my clan with same issue, my advice was boost barracks and do as many walls as u can, then when down to 80 or so walls start th upgrade, keep boosting barracks and keep raiding for gold while upgrade goes on. He's now 8 walls off all lvl8s and turns th9 in a few days and is a very happy chappy
