Defending in high champs. Worth it ?

Don't know if I should have put it in the strategy subsection, but it's named "Attack strategies", and considering that this is defending advices... well.

So, I've been barching recently to go to 4k.
I've had my TH outside the whole time, and I would lose between 1 and 10 trophies per attack (7 one star and 3 two stars on my last tens attacks. Lost a grand total of 36 cups, so 3.6 cups per attack on average).

Yesterday, I finally hit 4000 (exactly, with a +2 cups for 100% on a TH 9 :')).
It was about time to go in defense so my brother said to me "hey, why wouldn't you put your TH inside, just for fun ?". Biggest mistake ever. 13 lvl 4 drags and 2 lvl 40 heroes two starred my base, for 23 trophies :'(.

Well, not that big of a deal, I'll get the cups back. However, I'm wondering, is that just bad luck or should I just keep going with my TH outside ? Any opinons from high cup players here ?

I tought dragons only works on TH 7/8.

Everyone says they're useless on higher TH levels.

Or were it the heroes who made this happen?

Winning a defense in champ is a question of luck.
I mean, if you win, it's because your opponent fail..

Leave your Town-hall outside offer a chance to be sniped.
put it inside force potential sniper to next, and give opportunity to real clasher to bash you.
In the same time, leave it outside give a easy two stars to a barching opponent.

So, in fact, its just a question of luck....

yeah i think most people will just snipe and end just to get those trophies unless you have heaps of loot.

Yep put it outside as most of people wont risk go for 2 star

I found that between 3600 and 4000 leaving my th out would always result in a 1 cup snipe from somebody from around 4500 or so, but the moment I passed 4000 I was being fully attacked by people around 4300 for between 4 and 14 cups and haven't had a single snipe or been attacked by anyone in the 4500 range since.

I'm a TH9 so I'm easier to attack, but for me, since hitting 4k it appears that I'm offering more cups to higher players and I get hit hard and fully raided regardless of the town hall location.
