I believe their business model is good for the long term, and they recognize that alienating players by being constantly "greedy" is a good way to shoot themselves in the foot in the long haul. They implement a sizable amount of stuff based on user feedback, and they have been pretty good about keeping game balance satisfactory so that they have plenty of room to keep going without messing up everything that has come before. Honestly, I think even some of the complaints about SC "not caring" can also be attributed to this- sometimes SC seems to act to preserve the long term prospects even when (some) players won't like it (hero nerf and elixir walls for example).
Maybe it's not "caring about the cusotmer" in a direct sense, but I think they understand the power of customer satsifaction and use that to their advantage. They're certaintly not perfect in any of the instances I've mentioned, but I think they're still better than many of the alternatives.
