Thank you TH 8s

Not sure why you say there is a major loot penalty with TH 9. It is very minimal and not really note worthy. Of these 3 bases (http://imgur.com/GK32CBo), the one in the middle is the TH 8. His lvl 8 walls did not stop my WBs getting to his DE nor will they stop them from getting to elixer storages of other TH 8s. That was the point I was trying to make in which I was sharing my appreciation! :) never intended a major discussion and debate.
If you enjoy farming walls, go for it!
If you want to move onto TH 9 and only have a few lvl 8 walls, go for it! (Gold 1-3 is full of TH snipers. You will rarely lose any loot)
We all have our own unique methods in playing this game. No reason to ridicule those outside your own modus operandis

Thank you TH 8s who refuse to go to TH 9 before their walls are done. Your villages are loaded with elixer, free for the taking even with your lvl 8 walls. Lol I could say the same thing about you th9 (I'm a near maxed th10). I'm up in master so majority of bases are th10 with infernoes. Whenever I see a juicy th9 with 335/335/2200 ish I enjoy 3 starring you for the easy trophies and loot.

The X-bows and extra defenses didn't do much to stop my army. Gotta love those TH9s with mostly pink walls and TH8 level defenses.

Back when I was TH8 farming walls and waiting for lab upgrades I used to thank rushed TH9s and TH10s with the bounty of DE storage raids I was able to manage using WiPe....certainly made saving up for golems and valks all the more easier, I still look back to those fond memories... good times, good times.

It's doubtfull that you can 3* a th8 with skull walls - i can't and im a maxed th9.

P.S.: my heros levels are BK 15 and AQ 13...and even with them, its hard to 3* a TH8 with maxed walls with just barch and heros. Let me rephrase it: i've never been able to 3* a TH8 with skull walls, even with spells and heros. Walls are important to max at TH8.

P.S.2: oh...and because i have a mix of skull with lego walls (which i'm farming atm), not many players target me..usually they only target my TH, which is on the outside.

See, this is why I asked the question. I'm not a TH9, haven't barched or gibarched with level 6 troops. But, as a TH8 with level 5 troops, I do know that I'd rather raid a TH7 with max walls than a TH8 with puny walls.

So I assumed that TH9 would be similar. Indeed, the first person to reply to me above said that the maxed TH8 is easier to raid than a rushed TH9. The next person I quoted basically said the opposite. I don't know who to believe, LOL!

I'm certainly open to the possibility that the maxed TH8 is stronger (defensively) than a rushed TH9. But I just have a hard time believing that two maxed X-Bows, as well as an extra level to all splash damage defenses, can't compensate for weaker walls. I mean we're talking about the difference between 3000 hit points (skulls) versus 2500 hit points (purples). It's two wall breakers either way! Without wall breakers, it's a negligible difference (the purples are 17% weaker). The only time it makes a difference is if you hit the wall with ONE wall breaker. Then it's a significant difference. But it doesn't seem like something that would make or break a raid, especially now that you have buffed splash damage hitting your troops, plus the two X-Bows.

Anyway, I totally get that for war, maxing walls makes sense. As far as I can tell, walls have little if any effect on war strength, so it's basically like free defense, without actually pushing you higher up the map and matching you against a tougher opponent. That alone is worth maxing walls before defenses, if you're in a super-serious war clan. But for casual wars and regular matchmaking?

Not true. If you get 4 stars with 2x 2 stars and you get 3 star'd, you instantly become a liability. Unless you're a th9/10 that isn't being 3 star, any strong clan will need to re-do 2 star th8s and lower th9s to get 3 stars so those "4" stars might actually really be 0 stars as your attacks really don't count.

Well, I'm a late TH8, soon maxed defenses, and I farmed 125 skulls... enough to have 2 strong layers of skulls, and my outer layer lvl 7...
Well, I'm not going to sit there just for walls. I don't believe a second that they will make any difference at protecting my base against skilled TH9.
But what I see, it's when I'll farm walls at TH9, when making 1 M of each ressource, I'll do 2 skulls and 1 lego... so I'll have in a reasonnable amount of time a core in lego, and all skulls.

If I farm 1 M of each for walls now (less than 1 hour of play), I just throw away 1 M elixir each time. So I miss the opportunity to make a lego, and that's not good... as you say, it's better to max walls. Not speaking of having 4 builders idle out of 5, a total heresy, because they would do better upgrading all those new defenses I'll have.

Of course, I know I'll get raided by TH10... for a certain amount of time, though. Very few TH9 chooses to attack me, now, even with 2 K DE offering, there are much easier preys outside for them now...
