Raiding?

I'm relatively new to Hay Day, coming from Clash of Clans. One of the things I like about Hay Day is the social aspect of the game: one is encouraged to check out other farms and help people. But while reading this forum, I've noticed many references to "raiding", some people even say that's what stops them from helping others or liking farms. My question is: when I visit a farm (for example one of my last helpers or one of my followers) and see items for sale at the RSS, how do I know if it's OK to buy them?

Hi. Spearhead, if it's in the RSS and available for sale then anyone can buy it. That's how Supercell designed the game to be played.

Some players object to someone buying out the RSS and label it "raiding", and while it can sometimes be annoying to have just loaded your RSS with goodies to see one player swipe the lot - that is what they are entitled to do. I personally don't mind if that happens but I do see how it might frustrate some depending on individual playing styles.

Some players like to trade, and have to do that via the RSS, usually with the ad turned off so their shop doesn't appear in the Daily Dirt. Neighbourhoods sell to each other again via the RSS, and whilst it can be annoying to put an item in the shop for a neighbour only to have a stranger get it, that's how the game works.

if you advertise in the DD, help another farm, or add someone to your friend list then you can expect those players to have access to your RSS and therefore buy anything in it.

If its on sale in someones RSS, its fair game for anyone.

You may wish to display some etiquette/discretion in your neighborhood though... many players will put items on sale for the other people in the neighborhood. Buying up the whole shop might be seen by others in your NH as unfair and rude if the items were put on sale for everyone to share in the NH.

Your welcome. Just keep in mind that there are many different ways to play the game. I put the tips together back when a whole lot of new folks were joining and all asking the same questions. Rather than write a guide with just my opinions, I thought it would be much better to get lots of successful farmers view points. Actually I was being selfish that day. I was getting tired of seeing all the same questions and wanted a simple way to point new folks in the right direction. People call them my tips but only the thread is mine. The tips belong to the whole hay day community.

I always do that! It's so satisfying to see those trees and bushes turn green again, plus you get a thank you letter and sometimes a gift card too! I just got a pretty vintage bike yesterday, thanks to those gift cards.

"Raiding" is the term the owner of the shop uses when he sees you buying all his stuff he meant for somebody else, or for some other people, too. Typically, that kind of shop belongs to a higher level farmer, the merchandise is small numbers of premium items, maybe even at discounted prices, and it is certainly not advertised.

If the shop is filled with max price indigo and chili popcorn and wheat at 36 coins, you're considered not a raider but a valued customer if you buy it all. :D

It is certainly your right to buy anything for sale. But also keep in mind that if another player feels you are being too greedy, they may unfriend you/delete you as a follower. If that matters to you, you might want to exercise some caution.

Me, I tend to assume that if someone wipes out my stand, they won't mind if I do the same to theirs.

When the term "raiding" first came into being, it referred to one person continually buying everything in an RSS where the goods were not advertised in the DD, thereby preventing ones Neighbour's, friends and followers from buying said goods. The raider was usually someone the farmer had helped and who was accessing the effected farn through the Last Helpers tab. Now, it appears, the term has evolved to mean anybody who buys more than one or two items for sale at any one time, which I feel is unfortunate, as it means that good, honest farmers are afraid to buy the goods they, or their neighbours, need, in case they are labelled a raider. This term has even been extended to buying goods that are advertised in the DD, for some absurd reason. However, this concept is only known to those who read this forum and the thousands of players who do not come here know nothing of "raiding", so continue to buy freely.

Ok now i know that raiding is and yes I think I also am guilty off it. Who isn't? Surely when you are at a lower level and you need almost everything. You think that's cheap...

I can't see when 1 item is in the DD for a low price and i see a lot of good item in the same rss it is for grabs, or that it is ment for someone else. Also I can't see in the RSS off neighbours, or friends if there is advertised.
If I have the suspesion it is ment for someone else I leave it. It happens to me also, its all in the game. I just think when one person empties my whole shop, fine that gone. I will never do it attentionaly and I am to cheap to buy items I don't need.

it is just a game, some players have a whole social rule book, which is different for everyone. We are all human and make mistakes, or are greedy.

I've been playing 10 months and I've never wiped out someone's shop. The odds of someone "needing" 10+ crates of goods is extremely slim. At the very least, it implies the seller's RSS conveniently has everything the buyer has an immediate order for, which I suspect is rarely ever the case.

Unfortunately, I can't fully express my thoughts on this topic because it'll guarantee the thread is locked. I will say that I've never had any issue being self-sufficient in Hay Day. Yes, there are orders I can't fill sometimes and I do not feel compelled to fill them. I will tear down the truck order, send away the townie, cast off the boat, and hope for better next time. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I get the impression many people do not play that way, which I believe contribute at least in part to circumstances of "raiding".

I don't consider it "raiding" unless it's the full shop or close to it. As far as advertised goods are concerned, I'll just say that I wish I could help out more people than I do when one person decides to buy everything.

If I see a shop full of things I need (mainly BEMS and SEMS but also anything I'm low on or stuff I need for my boat/truck/town) then yes I will buy it all. But I mainly shop in the DD so I am presuming that if people are advertising in the paper than they want their stuff to sell asap and don't mind who buys it. I sell in the paper regularly (including premiums) and my main objective is to make space in my barn so I just want it sold and don't really pay attention to who has bought it. I don't have a problem with one neighbour or follower grabbing everything either but my RSS is an open market so whoever gets it first then good for them.

I have one farm I am following and another following me who both sell EMs regularly and I buy all their BEMS and SEMS whenever I see them. I am presuming if they didn't like this they would delete me/not follow me and after many months neither have done so. I will often buy their undesirable items like chilli popcorn or indigo too as a way of saying thanks and I make a point of always helping their boats and plants - these two will even get their dairy and sugar boats filled :cool:

I think I have accidentally swiped a couple of trades - I picked up 2 bins of 10 bolts for 1 coin per bin once, but this was from the DD and the seller had (presumably by mistake) got an ad up. I'm a power shopper especially when it comes to BEMS and my finger is faster than my brain - it wasn't till they were in my barn I realised I'd only paid one coin, then the paper refreshed and I'd no way of ever finding that farm again, but I did feel bad about it :(

it happens... thats why HayDay says trading is done at your own risk. Even the best set up trade is subject to an intended or sometimes unintended swipe....

Two questions:

1) Why is it even raiding if you buy out the full shop when it is advertised in the DD? What would you say if you went into a grocery shop/supermarket and when you got the the checkout they told you you could only purchase half of the items in your trolley because you were being too greedy and buying multiple grocery items? If you don't want to sell something on the free market, don't put it in your RSS when you have an active advertisement.

2) Why do you assume you are only helping one person if one person buys everything in your shop? I shop for my neighbours. I know who need ems of any type and will buy for them. I know when my neighbours, friends or even followers needs a crate filled and, if I don't have enough to fill the crate and they can't find the required items in their copy of the DD, in that case I will shop in my DD for them. If one member finds, as recently happened, an RSS full of a particular crop that takes time to grow, that member will buy the lot and share it around the other members of the neighbourhood. Several people helped by one person shopping. (By the way, we sell to each other at default, so when we help the Hay Day economy by buying something for max in the DD, we usually take a hit, because we sell it for less than we bought it, so we are helping our neighbours in more ways than one.)

Actually, real stores do limit the number of items you can buy, if it's a scarce item. "Limit one per customer." Or think of tickets to a game or concert that is likely to sell out. They limit the number you can buy at a time. They would have them go to several customers, rather than a scalper, or some one who's going to resell it on eBay.

But that doesn't really apply to HD. It's not a real free market. There's price limits. That is almost guaranteed to cause hoarding and a black market (private trading, people illegally selling BEMs for real money).

I agree that anything advertised in the paper is fair game, though.

For me, it's not helping lots of people. It's helping specific people. I have followers who sell me expansion items, and in exchange, I sell them cake, jam, ice cream, etc. I want them to get the stuff because if they like it, they go out of their way to put out the stuff they know I like. And if they never get anything, I'm afraid they'll un-follow me.

I don't think low-level players really have to worry, though. Low-level players generally can't buy out your whole stand. They don't have the coins or the barn space, and they haven't unlocked everything yet.

I am not talking about filling your tolley with one particular item that is heavily reduced on special, I am talking about filling your trolley with a mixture of normal, daily, grocery requirements, flour, sugar, butter, eggs, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, milk, pasta, cheese, and who knows what, and then at the checkout being told, sorry you can only buy the flour, sugar, butter and eggs, but not the rest, because you are being too greedy. THAT wouldn't happen.

A more accurate analogy would be someone buying out the whole store causing everyone else who was there or on their way there to leave empty handed and have to go elsewhere where they may not find the same goods.

I have no way of knowing either way. All I see is one person's profile picture plastered across a dozen crates. I wish there were a way I could know because at least then I'd have a 50/50 chance of feeling good about the purchases made.

Not one trolley, but one trolley is a drop in the bucket compared to the contents of a whole store. If you really did try to buy out the whole grocery store, they might object.

I don't know if you ever watch shows like "Extreme Couponing," but some stores are cracking down. They don't like one customer buying so much at one time.

Why think the worst of your customers? Feel good about sending your goods out into the Hay Day world where they will be loved by the people who purchase them, and assume that the person buying is buying to share. It's all in your perspective and your perspective is totally yours to control. I hate the "the customer is my enemy" attitude in which some people seem to wallow. If you don't want people to buy your stuff, don't put it in the RSS when there is an active ad, or don't put it there at all.

You always have the ability to control the distribution when using advertisement.

I always harvest / sell lemons & blackberries when my barn is overrun by saws & axes.

I place one ad on eggs and put 5 or 10 lemons, blackberries in the next stall. When someone buys it I refresh it. No one gets 250+ blackberries at a time this way.

Here's a few reasons that may help you to feel better about those sales:

1) A player still in the relatively lower levels (or even high levels) who still hasn't figured out a balance in the way they play, so they are always short on just about everything, even crops, because they still can't keep up on their own yet.

2) Someone doing Turbo Tucker or Captains achievements. They need masses of stuff right then and there and must temporarily hoard as much as their barns and silos can hold as they have no way of knowing what the next truck or boat will need. They don't have the time to leisurely trash truck orders or send away boats...they HAVE to do as many as possible in an excruciatingly short time.

3) Someone who has just finished a TT or Captains and is replenishing their stock in preparation for the next level of TT or Captains.

4) Someone replenishing stock after draining themselves dry on a recent Truck or Boating event.

5) Someone who still hasn't discovered that they can't cast away boats and is under the mistaken belief that they'll be penalized in the game somehow for every boat unfinished. (as stated, very few players visit this forum and there are a lot of incorrect beliefs about the game out there). So, when they see stuff they MAY need, they buy as much as they can afford and have room to store.

So, no...you don't have any way to know why they buy the way they do. But on the same note, you don't have any way to know that they don't have a valid reason to buy the way they do.

I know this is a sensitive issue for some so, hopefully, the reasons above (a sampling of possible reasons) may help to ease the distress felt about these mass sales. May I suggest that when one's RSS is wiped out, take a step back and wonder if they're working on TT or Captains, etc. There's your 50 percent chance to feel good about the purchases made. :)

Yes, you can choose to believe your purchasing practices don't cause certain players unhappiness even though anyone who's read this forum for any length of time knows that's patently untrue. (This forum may be a small sampling of the overall playerbase but it's still a sampling.)

Okay, I admit that's something I hadn't considered and a viable reason for someone to "need" so much. I'm not sure how high the chances of that actually being the case are, but good point nonetheless.

I can understand being annoyed if you have put things in your shop specifically for your neighbours to share and one person constantly takes everything but I don't really understand being bothered about who buys stuff from the DD, or what their motives are. l'm a big fan of the DD and am grateful to everyone who buys and sells there and keeps the paper alive and interesting. And I'm pretty sure that anyone who buys your stuff is very happy to get it, whether they share it or keep it for themselves. I get such a buzz when I find good stuff in the paper, it's one of my favourite parts of the game and DD shopping is one of the main reasons I keep playing.

If a player don't wan't to get "raided", then avoid making it possible to get "raided", by not filling the shop with things they are not willing to sell to anyone. Come on, it's a game!! Take some responsibility for own choices!!

I can only speak for myself, but it's not about not wanting to sell to anyone it's about not wanting everything to only go to one person. Product would not be in my RSS period if I weren't willing to part with it on some level.

Having said that, I learned my lesson after I was "raided" the last time, which incidentally upset me so much I quit the game for 4 months. I simply don't have sales anymore. I realized I don't need the coins and my sales were basically for the sole purpose of doing others a favor, which I felt was being abused so I quit doing it.

I am the Leader in a great NH, if I do say so myself, where we never fill up our RSS' for our Neighbours only. We tell each other what we have on offer, or we'll ask for specific items then we trade via 1 RSS box. In my almost 1 year of playing, a trade this way has been interupted maybe 6 times, and my RSS is almost always full with ads up. By trading one on one this way instead of filling your RSS with goodies and hoping only your neighbours get them, you'll be saving yourselves a lot of stress. Also, like a member posted above, I also shop for my neighbours and not just myself so I may be someone who has so called " raided" but in reality I've gone on to help several other people with my buys.

As you see theres a wide range of approaches to this issue and no consensus. My approach is that there's no such thing as raiding. Anthing in my stand is available to all shoppers and very often one person buys it all. If I see stuff I need, I buy it. You'll need to find your own style that suits you , the way tbe game is set up makes it impossible for you to know what the other person's expectations arej

If it is for sale in RSS then you can buy everything in the RSS. There is no such thing as raiding in hay day except in the minds of some people who want to rewrite the rules. Buy away

I always taught people who complain about raiding does feel good when people buy what they need from their stall. I think it makes them feel good seeing that there are gratefull players who leave some good items for people who will later visit the shop. :)

Just like people against raiding, people who are described as raiders do also love it when they found a jackpot shop. They buy everything they can and find valueable with great pleasure. :)

My impression is that those who prefer to sell to several people and not just one - are actually expressing a desire to have more control over who purchases from their stand, not that they begrudge others getting that thrill, they just want more control. Maybe SC could make some mechanism where people could choose to have a closed stand or some private slots but would have to waive their right to shop in the paper themselves until they opened their stand to the public again.

When I read all of this, I am almost afraid to buy more then 1 crate in the shop. Al most I say. Look when you buy at the DD you really don't no the rules off the seller. If I put out 2 time 5 wool, is that because I think it sells quiker. If one person takes all 10 its ok. If 2 persons take each 5 its fine. If 1 person cleans out my shop and keeps it al for himself, fine. If it is shared or reselled also fine. If I put out a discount because I have an overload of eggs and the buyer makes a good profit by reselling for fullprice, good job. I have done that also when I was short of coins. Thats the way it works.

A jackpot shop is rare in the DD. I see it mayby once in the 2 weeks. If I find a jackpot shop I can't believe my eyes and jump up and down from joy. I take what I like and what a neighbour needs and go on. I am not robbing you because I pay the price aksed. And that is almost always full price. If I see I have to much from something I bought I resell it, because the barnspace Is immited.

i also admire the player who has the resources to put a shop together which I like. For me is that the shop with cake, jam, juice, coffee, chocolatemilk, ice ream and as bonus candy. I like shops with variety and collor. I also buy BEM andTEM, but thats not the kind of shop I realy like.

if you are realy bothered by raiding, don't put everithindpg at once in your shop and don't put an add in the DD. In our neighbourhood, we first let the neighbourspick their choice and then the DD. But that is no golden rule. Most often we get like crazy to the shop and see what is left.

keep in mind it is just a game. The products are not made from real stuff and the monney is fake ( i am an milionair hayday, in real life i am just middleclass) You can not pay your bills with it.

My impression is that those who prefer to sell to several people and not just one - are actually expressing a desire to have more control over who purchases from their stand, not that they begrudge others getting that thrill, they just want more control. Maybe SC could make some mechanism where people could choose to have a closed stand or some private slots but would have to waive their right to shop in the paper themselves until they opened their stand to the public again.

Since you cannot change others, try changing yourself. That is the only person you control. it is a game. Play by the official rules and you will be far less frustrated.

Indeed people do not currently have control. From this thread it appears to me that some would like to have a greater measure of control over their stand. I was trying to think of a creative solution to fill this need while taking into account that it would reduce (the already too meager) supply to the DD. So the flip side could a reduction of the demand by limiting access to the paper. This would also be more fair - those who prefer not to contribute to the paper because the buyer is not in their control would also not be able to purchase from it, thus leaving more items for people who are willing to contribute and relinquish this control over who buys from their stand.

Personally my viewpoint is that there is no such thing as raiding, if it's in my stand it's available to anyone who wants to buy it for the indicated price. If and when I want to sell only to my neighborhood or followers I remove the ad. After some time if they don't need it or aren't online I open it up. In both cases it makes absolutely no difference to me if the items are purchased by two people, six or just one. I also behave accordingly as a shopper. As I can't even begin to guess what the other person prefers or assumes and what they would consider appropriate - I go by the rules set by the people who created this game - if it's in the stand and I need it and have enough coins - I buy it without any qualms.

- Well, if someone really needed the items (let's say they are a low level and bought all town expansions or land expansions) i don't mind if they buy me out.
- If someone buys you out ALL the time then you may say "sale on my shop, please share" to indicate its for sharing. They might not know what raiding is. If they still buy out everything then you may kindly warn them that you want to share your goodies with all. If i am okay with my shop being raided i say pls clear out after a while.
- Generally during nh sales if someone puts one nail or one lobster soup (stuff everyone needs all the time) in each stall they want people to share it. If you really need them, and not so many ppl seem to be around ask before you wipe out the shop.
- Communication is the key as some ppl might not share the same point of view with you about raiding and they might not be aware of what they are doing. So instead of being upset and letting it disturb your enjoyment just stand up for yourself.

For me its more like a banquet for my friends rather than a way to earn coins. Off course in a good neigboorhood when someone asks for something and another one offers that for a low price, you don't take it. I also ask if I think that someone needs a certain item and offers them for almost nothing. If someone else takes that item I will let that person know, so they know that is not ok. You just can say, share please or whatever. And every neighboorhoods has just other rules and it also depends of the level off players etc.

But when I have an ad in the DD, its a risk that a stranger takes the low priced item. It is all in the game. Sometimes you win sometimes You loose.

I agree it's subjective! I do try to break up the items to several slots so more than one neighbor can enjoy them but if it doesn't work out, I figure there is always next time :) I guess my subjective approach is that it's a game and I don't really take anything that happens in it to heart.

If someone specifically asked me not to buy all the items I would of course respect that. In most cases I don't have any means of communication with the seller and can't know what their perspective is and how it differs from mine.

I try to have a "Dream Shop" as Tilla describes.

Its a lot of fun for me, to advertise something simple, i.e. Milk that I need to sell because of Full Barn Syndrome.
I get buyers who are looking for milk... when they visit, I enjoy it if they go nuts and buy up all the cookies, cakes, ice creams, *EMs that I've filled my shop with. I can imagine their joy at finding such a bonanza. Sometimes, I'll do an ongoing sale for an excited shopper - continuing to put items in my RSS as fast as I can, while they happily buy what they want. The sale continues until their barn is full, their money runs out, or my stock is depleted or I'm ready to quit.
I often finish with a couple of premiums for 1 coin, as a parting gift.

Lots of fun for the buyer, and me, as a seller.

That said, if I'm stocking my RSS, and it is UNADVERTISED: then these items are put out for my friends and neighborhood. They know, and I've told them, to help themselves to whatever they need or want. I have several who visit my shop, and buy me out. I don't mind. I'm delighted to see them.

I have other friends who stop by, and only take a few items. This, btw, is my own personal style for how I shop others stands. I try to be very considerate and polite, even when I'm buying through the DD.

I love my friends and neighbors, and put out nice items for them at a discount.
I used to keep my stand full, all the time, with unadvertised discounted premiums.

I've sadly had to stop doing it that way. Followers, people returning via last helpers tab, would repeatedly shop my unadvertised RSS - not just for themselves. They would siphon off (perfect term MadeleineAkaino) all my items not just for themselves, but to supply their own neighborhoods; and would also resell my discounted premiums and *EMs (left out to support new farmers) for full price in their own shops.

I'm sorry, but I am NOT a feeder farm for other farms, and especially NOT as a feeder for other neighborhoods - I have my own NH and friends to take care of.
To have the unadvertised items put out to help my NH, friends and newbies grabbed continually by a stranger or someone who has followed my farm distresses me - I'm very, very patient, but I DON'T enjoy being used. That person eventually winds up being deleted or seeing nothing in my shop, until they go away.

I think politeness and being considerate goes a long way - in this game, and especially in Real Life.

Wow! When I started this thread, I didn't know this topic would trigger such a large variety of responses! Thank you again for all the inputs! As Tiggerr said very well, there are more than one way to play the game. Personally, I'm more of a casual player type, I'd buy anything I like (sometimes just because I like the look of it) and sell whatever I have in surplus. I have no problems if someone buys my entire stand (it happened to me more than once, and I was amazed how fast things went). And since SC has been hinting about something related to the NH in the next update, I wonder if they are going to give sellers more control on their sales, like one or more specific crates for just the NH?

I don't see how this could be as big a problem as some people make it out to be.

Even I who sell a LOT of stuff through my RSS and who plays a lot of hours in a day just can't keep refilling my shop over and over.

I have noticed several times people who clear out my shop 3 or 4 times in a row and place it in their own shop. I always sell max price so they certainly aren't making a profit on it. Maybe they are posting it for their friends, followers neighbours. Or they are looking to have a shop filled with sold out items in order to gain more followers.
I don't care because I put my stuff in my shop to sell it.

So these people have Followed me, which is the only reason I can know that they are reposting my stuff in their shop.

But the odds of them stopping by my shop at the same time that I have filled it are extremely low. Unless they just keep scrolling through their friends and followed list on the off chance that someone might have some goodies for them to buy. In which case that's a pretty boring way to play. I would think they would get tired of that pretty quickly.

I have been cleared out 2 to 4 times in a row but then never seen these same people in my shop again.

And it seems to me that if you want your neighbours to have the stuff you're selling (and not someone else), the best course of action would be for you to notify your neighbours that you have goodies in your shop.
That way they know and "anybodyelse" doesn't.

You're exactly right - this would be the best way...

Yes, that's exactly what I do with my NH, through in-game chat, but my own circumstances are such that I can't do the same for my beloved friends, who are in other NHs. I don't have easy, on-time access to be able to PM or KIK them as I put items out. That's why I put all the unadvertised, discounted premiums out for my friends and welcomed followers, in my RSS, and they stop by whenever they are playing their farm.

Yup, the DD is a completely different animal. All is fair in the paper. That being said, there are sellers in the DD who don't like selling to one person. I've come across shops where the seller is putting up premiums after premiums. Me, being an opportunistic shopper, camped out and snatched up each item as they were being placed. The seller became annoyed and stopped. But I had a feeling he wasn't done so I stuck around. He proceeded to put more items out (probably thinking I had left) which I bought without the slightest hesitation...he eventually stopped completely so I left lol

On the flip side, I've come across shops in the DD where the sellers don't care what I bought. Item up, I buy...item up, I buy. This went on til he was out of premiums to sell. Goes to show that there are players out there with completely different playing styles, even when it comes to selling in DD...which can also be applied to the issue of raiding. What might annoy one person, might not annoy another...

But I'm still not a raider...I just buy a lot :p

I think the reason the threads about raiding get so much debate (yours is not the first), is because just about everybody who is passionate enough about Hay Day to come here to the forum brings their own sense of morality to the game and they generally adhere to it. The thing is, we all have a slightly different sense of right and wrong. And that's when people start to get uppity. One person states how they do things, but somebody else reads it to mean that people not doing it exactly like that are somehow bad. And while it is very rarely meant that way, it is sometimes taken that way. So people get even more uppity.

This thread has been pretty civil so far, at least compared to others. Seems like usually after a week a mod has to step in and shut it down.

Hay Day has limited to practically non-existent social controls. I can't even imagine having played before the ability to remove followers was added. I probably would have quit a lot sooner and not come back, especially since Last Helpers circumvents the follower system.

Boredom would be the simplest answer. The reasons are a little more complex than that, but it didn't have anything to do with updates (aside from the duck salon I've no idea what was added during my hiatus -- and I hate the duck salon), or missing it, or anything like that. Many of my machines sit idle because I don't overproduce to cause a need to sell. These are the concessions I've had to make.

That's interesting. I generally give those hyper-shoppers the benefit of the doubt about their motives. (I don't mean those creeps who latch on to former neighbors/friends and act aggressively in a sad attempt at retaliation.) But in general, most of us are probably oblivious about being a nuisance or so I thought.

But it sounds like - in some cases - they probably do have some insight that they're being annoying. And the glee that they get from irritating a fellow player is actual added value for them in the game. Hay Day really has something for everyone, even the little trolls among us.

There was a really high-level player that bought almost everything in my store when she started her own NH. I guess she wanted to feed those baby birds. Before, she only shopped a couple of times a day at my RSS.

It's the DD. I'm under the impression that u advertised in the DD to sell. Why does it matter who ur selling the stuff to? If it bothers that person so much...stop selling if I'm around. Again, it's the DD. Unless I've decided to follow him, he'll never see me again. Even if I did, he would've had the option to delete me if he's that annoyed.

It's the way I've been playing since day one and it'll be same way I'll be playing til it's time for me to hang it up.

But the point of my post is that I - and others - have previously assigned purely benign motives to these players who clean out your stores repeatedly. But, thanks to your sharing your experience, I know that's probably less frequently the case than I thought.

The difference between the way I shop and an actual repeated raider is that I have no ties to this person. It's an isolated incident and a strategy of shopping I will continue to employ to my advantage.

Just curious - how do you know he was annoyed and stopped. Maybe he ran out of items to sell and stopped. Harvested some items, got more stuff and put those up for sale. I have done that in the past.
I never thought about if i had shoppers waiting to buy or not.

You do NOT know anyones motives or thoughts. Heck, half the time i do not know my motives. Stop assuming you magically know what you have no way of knowing and you will be happier. If it is in your RSS ANYONE can buy it. That is the rule of this game. If that does not suit you, do not put in RSS.
Smart farmer has done that. Stop blaming other people. You are the only one who can make yourself miserable or happy

Good question. He easily could've ran out of items but the time interval between placing his items in each stall were consistent until I bought each one out. He paused for a minute, place another item in his stall and stopped for good after I continued to buy. I concluded he no longer wanted to sell to me. Hey, that's fine...I'll just move on. No love lost :)

Imagine coming across a shop full of items u want in the DD. Are u going to stop buying because it might annoy someone? Probably not. Ur going to stay there until he's finished. Feelings and emotions aside, let's be realistic. The DD is a free for all...it's all about speed and opportunity.

Yeah, I'm not sure persisting at a farm past when the ad would no longer appear in the paper can technically be filed under "It's the DD" because at that point it's not anymore.

This is exactly what I said earlier in this thread - it's all about your perspective, and you are the one that controls your own perspective of the external world. There are some out there who believe the customers with whom they are not personally friends are their enemies, there are some out there who have a very damaged world view and believe the worst of everyone, there are some out there who wish to control something over which they can have no control, there are some out there who believe that anyone who buys more than one item from their shop is a raider. This is their chosen perspective, and they could choose to actively change that perspective and have a happier playing experience, but if they don't want to make that change for themselves nothing that could be said here will make any difference.

In this thread I have seen people de♥♥♥♥ate (word that means "put down") followers, and state they delete anyone who tries to follow them in case they should attempt to buy the precious goods in their RSS. Personally I love my followers. My followers and I enjoy a relationship of reciprocity, even if I don't have any way of communicating with them. I encourage my followers and treat them the same way I treat my friends, even my new followers, because who knows, they may prove eventually, in the future, to be extremely helpful. When I come across a shop of *EMs I only buy one or two, depending on how many they have listed, and leave the rest for others because I would feel greedy otherwise and it would bother me afterward. Clearly, not everyone has the same battles with their conscience and maybe it's just a personal hangup, but it's also how I would want others to treat my shop and I would feel hypocritical if I behaved any differently.

I agree we're 2 completely different players when it comes to the DD. I enjoy it tremendously and those "scores" in the paper is why I'm still playing this game. As I've said before, the DD is THE game for me. U remove the DD from the game and the allure of HD is gone, IMO.

I never thought raiding in the DD was even possible (which it's not).

i have fiound out that I play different now i am at level 70 then I was at level 35. When I was at a lower level and al most always needed coins, I was hunting for every bargain to resell. But now I don't do that. I have enough money, no machine left to buy and it is easier to get money because I can make more premium products to sell in the DD. I don't need LEMs and found out that If I am patient that one bolt I need will come by.

But I stay Dutch, so if I spot a bargain which I maybe use I buy. I do never a random sale, only neighboors get huge discounts if they need something, but they have to ask. I almost sell everything for max price, so I have never been raided, I think. But if so, I don't care less.

I try to help others and strangers but it is not a huge need.

So lets enjoy hayday on our own unique way, maybe I get across some jackpot shops from one off you. happy farming.

Thats the difference between you and me...I only take what I need and leave the rest. I have a wonderful friend thats rss is always full of potatoes and soybeans, which I always run out of. I buy 10-20, just enough to plant and get my stock up thn leave. Same with building materials with other friends. Ask any of my friends and they will tell u I don't raid their shops, ever. However, if I'm drawn to a random farm via an ad, u bet I will buy everything I need. It's fair game. Is there a quota of how much I'm suppose to buy? Am I suppose to leave some for the rest of the millions of players who are seeing the same ad I'm seeing and possibly in the same shop I'm in? U snooze, u lose. If ur not going to buy it, someone else will.

I do boats, trucks, townies and help friends on a nonstop basis so I need everything I can get my hands on. Do u? I recall u don't...so yea, there's a huge difference between u and I.

Well, in a way it IS bad - for them. The way the game is designed makes it impossible for them to use their stand without feeling taken advantage of and some people even got so upset that they quit or took a break from a game they found otherwise enjoyable . I feel bad about that for them. It would be nice if there was some way to give people a little more control over their stand, assuming it's possible to do this without creating too much imbalance in the DD.

It's not about buying stuff that's been advertised in the DD. It's about lurking on that farm after the ad's expired, because you sensed that the seller wanted to stop selling to you. It's about being unabashed that you were an annoyance to them. It's not the same as general shopping in the DD.

You compelled her/him to cease all RSS activity. Not everyone plays for hours and hours on end. If you have only about 20 minutes to clear out space in your barn with sales so you can collect bonuses from pets or from harvesting crops having an unwelcome squatter on your farm puts a crimp on your whole playing schedule. It's not an insignificant inconvenience.

If you'd followed that farm, they'd have a chance to delete you. And you're aware of that option, but you chose not to go that route. By just sitting on their farm, they have no defense from unwanted shoppers like you. Your choice to gain continued access to the farm that way - where the seller is hostage to your whims - that's the point of interest. Again, it's not about general shopping in the DD.

I know this is a sensitive subject ive read many threads that tell me it can also get heated. However, if the idea of the game was to sell to a certain someone or limit the sales each person could make supercell would have added the much requested neighbour crate for the rss or limited the amount of purchases a player could make. Until that very unlikely day happens whether people like it or not you can buy whatever you please or however much you please in any rss anywhere - dd, friends, followers or last helpers. Neighbours it is slightly different because you are aware that someone else may have requested a certain item, but if you don't buy that item then yes buy the whole lot!

Im level 60. And you can buy away in my shop. I love raiders makes room for more items to sell. It also means that since supercell increased the price of new crates by increasing 2 diamonds that those who can't or don't want to spend diamonds on crates can make money easier.

I always say to my kids when they're arguing about self made rules on game consoles and even hay day... If the game allows you to do it it's ok, if it doesn't it's not.

Why do I keep bringing up the DD? I'm at their farm because of their ad, which gives me every right to buy as I please. If I happen to be lucky enough to come across an ad where the player is selling premium after premium (my reason for shopping) while I'm there, am I really suppose to ignore those items and move on? I found what I'm finally looking for, I hit the motherload of jackpots...do u really expect me to leave and look for another ad selling the same thing. That would be illogical. I think the bigger issue is a raider from the DD whom u've helped coming back again and again and again wiping out ur entire shop, uninvited. That is something a player like u may have to deal with for a longer period of time and frankly, there's really nothing u can do about that because it's out of ur control. U can stop selling entirely like Darcelle but to me, THAT is a much bigger nuisance than dealing with a random, short termed, opportunistic shopper like me.

And how, exactly, am I to know how long it takes an ad to expire after I buy? Is it instant? Is it 30 seconds? Is it 16 seconds? This sounds like another new self-imposed rule not part of the game to me . . . I never cease to be amazed at how many of those pop up around this simple farming game.

Has the shop closed after the ad expires? No. It's still open for business, and all goods are always fair game.

I would also point out that what you describe as "reasonable expectations" have not been coded into the game by the developers, and can be therefore considered unreasonable.

Why assume they were annoyed? Do you have evidence? Isn't it just as likely that they were momentarily distracted by their 3 year old needing a Kleenex or a word or two, and paused selling? Then restarted selling, until they got a phone call? We can never know what is going on in another player's mind through the limited information we have in the shop.

Wow, perky is right. There's no way to tell exactly how long that ad is staying open. More importantly, you put it in the DD, my friend..well, like it or not it's up for grabs. This is not tennis with court etiquette. The programmers will eventually change it if they don't think it's working as intended. In the meantime, seems like a lot of what you were fingerpointing at Haystacker about is mostly in your perception. Just saying...

okidoke, as you . Yes, 3 hrs. Duly noted, got it. But what happens to a few is just that..not the norm. Some of us do hang around to see what other goodies are going on sale, and I'm not going to be guilted for that. I would never stalk as described above, and I consciously avoid the 1 wheat boxes out of courtesy. I do have, ahem...a few scruples :)

An ad lasts 3 hours if the tagged item is not sold. If the tagged item is sold, the listing disappears from the next edition (5 Minutes?) of the DD.

This is my understanding of how the DD and ads work.

It's not for any moral reason, but more that I have a tiny impatient streak for certain things, and I just don't want to. But, you better believe that if someone is loading bin after bin of berries, I'm going to hover a while and buy as many as my silo can hold, lol.

I would have said it's perfectly normal to stay and look what's coming next if somebody is obviously in the process of loading his shop with premium goodies. This might take several minutes. As long as I got to the shop through an ad and there is no flagged crate I'm ignoring, I can't see anything wrong with me buying everything I like. If the shop owner doesn't want me to have it all, all he has to do is stop selling and wait for 2 minutes.

I'm not trying put more fuel into the fire. I'm simply trying to understand what the whole raiding issue is all about. It apparently extends to the DD and staying after a perceived amount of time.

How could someone tell if a seller was annoyed based on the fact that they temporarily stopped putting items in their RSS? Life has a million interruptions. They may have had a connection issue. They may have wanted to feed their chickens or harvested their wheat.

There are some of us who enjoy having our frenzy sales. Where you post an ad for something and as people follow your ad and buy things from your shop, you continue to refill boxes. Kind of like those wheat bots do.

We can't even be sure that everyone knows that the last box to the right is reserved for private trades as many people tend to load their shop starting at the right.

And if I find a shop full of things that I want im not going to stop and consider whether seller meant for these to go to someone else. They might just as well mean to be getting rid of these items in hopes that someone else can make better use of them.

It's a roadside stand, not a private trading box(as some people use it for) and if you do, you run the risk of having one player hogging everything.

I personally don't care who my items are selling to as long as they are sold. If there is a lurker checking out the last slot (which many use for trading) then so be it, you better be quick or else. It's the nature of the game and IMO a fun part of the game.

Really interesting reading the different points of view. I have always said I don't mind who buys what in my RSS and I stick by that. I had a wobbly moment recently when someone who I must have helped repeatedly bought me out everytime I put new goods up in my shop before I'd placed an ad in the DD. This was because I like to fully load my shop first. I do sell a good range of products, and I do put some products up at default price.

When it first started happening I experienced a flash of annoyance, but when I thought about it logically I decided that getting annoyed with someone who had the initiative to utilise the last helpers tab was silly, and if they bought me out when an ad was up I would be ok with it.

I concluded that my feelings are about control, when I put up an ad I choose to say buy my stuff, whereas with the last helpers tab I have no control over who visits my shop if I choose to help others.

I must say the last helper tab Lurkers are few and far between, but as an enhancement maybe you can only visit a helped farm once and if you like the farm ad them to your friend list. This would stop the opportunistic short term behaviour of how the minority of players use the last helpers tab. That would help players feel more in control of their shop.

I know. Hay Day is a social game And that's one of the things that I love about it. But if something in the game stops some players from helping others (last helper tab) than surely it would be wise for Supercell to think about how the experience can be enhanced as we all, irrespective of our playing style, need crops watered and boats helped and the NH however wonderful cannot always provide everything a player might need.

My first few posts in this thread basically explain what intrigued me about your post. They explain what caught my attention, and what I learned from your post. After that, it just snowballed unnecessarily into my debating semantics. It was too much on my part.

This is really the only thing that has annoyed me, is when my shop is being wiped as I'm trying to fill it :rolleyes:
If I'm going to advertise, I never put an ad on until after I've finished loading stuff in my shop. But I've had friends and neighbors come along and buy all my stuff as I'm filling my shop. It's not really a huge deal or problem though. I would just keep going until its full and then let my shop sit for awhile before I refill it.

I don't care who buys my stuff. I've had a neighbor message me, afraid that I thought she was stalking my farm but just told me that she sees I put up LEM's in my shop so she's always checking for them. That's fine with me. If it's in my shop, feel free to take it.

Youve described exactly how I fill my shop. And I always always begin from the right. I don't trade so the player-invented rule that there is some special slot reserved isn't at the front of my mind when I shop. I wouldn't deliberately ruin a trade but most certainly might not think of it. I probably haven't disrupte any trades though as I rarely scroll through large shops.
I think making assumptions about what someone else is thinking is almost inevitably a source of frustration especially in a global game with players from hugely diverse cultures.

All these arbitrary, and yes, they are arbitrary, player invented rules are extremely counterproductive in my opinion. Many of you are saying you only want the people on your Friends tab to buy your goods, and then only one or two items at a time. I can say that I, for one, feel so intimidated by this, that I have severely curtailed purchasing from the people on my Friends tab, because I am concerned that they will consider I am raiding their shops. I actually sit and agonise over whether to buy something from a Friend's shop and often find myself telling me to back away, just in case. So you have created a situation where the people for whom you are supposedly putting these goods up are actually afraid to buy them in case they get a bad rep with you. I even had one person, who actually requested to be my friend, not the other way around, delete me from her Friends tab because I bought several items from her RSS on two seperate occasions. So, now I mostly avoid buying from Friends and do most of my shopping in the DD.

Now I see players trying to impose arbitrary rules on the DD! Far out! What do you want? Do you want everybody to be afraid to buy anything, ever? Do you want the whole HD economy to grind to a screeching halt? Commerce is commerce. You want to sell, others want to buy. If your products are so precious that you can't bear to send them out to be purchased by the General retail public, be like Darcelle and never put anything in your RSS. However, if you do put it in your RSS, do it with an understanding of how SC intends the game to work, that the DD is an open market place where everyone can buy freely, and your RSS is an open portal to your goods.

I sell a lot of dairy and sugar products in my RSS, unadvertised, and my friends, followers and cubby mates come looking for these products. Sure, it would be nice if everyone got a look in, but I see it as a case of "the fastest finger wins the jackpot". I just want the stuff out of my barn, so good luck to whomever finds it first. I came to Hay Day for distraction from real life problems. There is no way I am going to give myself an ulcer over aspects of the game that were already part of the game when I signed up for it. It's like buying a house by the airport then complaining about the noise of the aeroplanes.

I agree. If its in the dd, fair game. Hang around. That seller might just be happy someone is interested in buying. Maybe they are saving for a machine or upgrade or whatever. Consider it your hayday civic duty to help them raise those much needed coins.

I buy mostly from the dd. I hang around in rss all the time. Just found a lvl 46 selling what looked like the whole barn. Maybe to get that soup maker or they were still trying to get a coffee kiosk. Or maybe just maybe like me they were saving for that next lovely gold statue or wonderful tractor. If its advertised, or an ad has been placed its fair game. Please notice the "game" part of that statement. Its a game. Delete those you can if they bother you and learn to work around those you can't delete. Simple.

So thats my humble opinion. 😀

It's not just diverse cultures though. This thread is evidence that it's also player personality. Unfortunately, Hay Day doesn't offer adequate social controls, especially for a self-proclaimed "social" game.

Not that Hay Day has any basis in reality, but in the real world I would have an "Open" or "Closed" sign on my shop that people would (hopefully) respect. The RSS in Hay Day is basically akin to leaving items on the curb for the garbage collectors (Greg & Tom? :P) or whoever happens to get there first.

I definitely don't get the sense that it's my shop. I can't even remove items from sale. Now that I think about it, the fact that the RSS appears physically on the property probably leads players to assume they have certain rights over it that they do not. Perhaps if we had to sell at a "farmer's market" instead of at our own farm there'd be a lot less sense of not having control over something we feel we should.

It is simple. i put stuff in the RSS because I don't need them. I get coins for that in return. I don't care who buys the stuff because its is the same amount off coins.

Some players have so much rules about who is allowed to buy which type off item and how much items and what they do with it after they paid for it etc. And even not want to sell to strangers or help strangers because maybe one off them will buy some stuff or all the stuff they don't need anymore or which was ment for another player or for more then one player. And everyone will play according this huge rule book, everybody gets stuck, because to get the last mullet for the barn extantion I had to go to the DD. Lower level players, must go to the DD because they don't have a neighbourhood.

Do those players who never sell in the RSS, or help stangers realize that if they buy in the RSS those strangers help them to level up but they will never will help any stanger to level up. Is that how they want to,play the game? Is this social and right. I prefer a stranger who raids my shop then a stranger who only buys 10 wheat and never will help out or never sell. Because the rayder will sell because the barn is limmited and helps someone else that way.

I have a huge smile on my face when I finaly have found the last mullet to expant the barn and that smile is only possible because that stranger was so kind to out it in the RSS and DD. i will never have that smile when everyone keeps everything for his or herself or just a small selection of aproved buyers.

i am happy I don't mind that someone cleans out my shop, because I know thatnthat person has a great smile on his face and mabeynhelp another one smile when he resells.

I read the whole thread like I have read previous threads about raiding and now I have a headache. I really should stop but it's an interesting topic. lol.

I have to say that it has sometimes annoyed me when friends buy the things I'm putting up to advertise to get boat help before I've gotten the chance to put the ad up. It has also annoyed me when a friend buys me out repeatedly and doesn't help with trees and bushes. But not enough to delete these friends. It's just a brief annoyance and doesn't make me unhappy in the long run.

What does make me unhappy is the people who seem to think that the people buying are the only ones that are greedy and selfish and the only ones making others unhappy. When in fact the posts about rules on how much you can buy is the thing that has made me the most unhappy. I very rarely buy anything from my friends. It is a result of these threads. I would only stress about whether I'm making someone unhappy by buying their stuff. So it's better just not to buy anything. I think the people accusing others of being greedy and selfish are just as greedy and selfish themselves, making these rules. It annoyes me that they seem to be saying they are better and their style of play is somehow better than others. Maybe it is my wrong impression.

But I have to say I think extending these rules to apply to the DD is just silly. I will refuse to start thinking about this stuff when buying from the DD. I will keep on buying just as much as I want and not even think about it.

But of course everyone is aloud to do and think as they please. Just my too cents.

When, and why, did "raiding " come to mean "shopping"? Raiding started out meaning "to continuously buy everything that one player puts in their RSS everytime they put goods up for purchase, over an extended period of time"

It did not start out meaning "to buy more than one or two items at a time at any given time, whether advertised in the DD or not". This is quite simply a ridiculous definition of raiding. It turns almost everyone who shops into a raider.

Please everyone, stop using the term "raiding" to mean "shopping". It is obviously a highly emotive term that is causing a lot of anguish, and I would love to see it added to the list of banned and filtered words. I shop, I don't raid. I might shop enthusiastically sometimes, if I see you have put up a lot of premium items in the DD at once, but that is NOT raiding. I am not camping out on your farm buying absolutely everything you sell over an extended number of days. I am simply availing myself of the goods you have decided to sell. I am shopping.

As I have previously said, I am really too frightened to buy from my friend's RSS's, because this connotation of raiding has been hijacked and extended to include simply shopping.
