What does it mean to stay at th 8.5?

I upgraded to th9, however I was told to upgrade only offence and not defence for the time being until I can 3 star th9s properly. My question is what can I build and not build as a 8.5 town hall, and is it worth it to stay at 8.5? I would appreciate if someone who is familiar with this method of war could answer my question. thanks

8.5 and 9.5 are methods being used with many serious war clans now. I personally don't agree with 8.5 or 9.5 because the clan is asking you to make yourself weaker on defense for everyday play so you can have a very slight edge in war.

Example. If you just went to TH9 these clans tell you to only build camps, SF, lab and anything else involving offense. You ignore xbows and advancing all your other defenses for a month or more so this will keep you low in the matchmaking when it comes to war. You may get matched with a max TH8 as your mirror in war even though you have TH9 troop space, an AQ and 4 spells. Etc.

The same goes for TH10 and not building IT, 3rd xbow etc.

Unless you are in a very serious war clan who is looking for every edge in order to maintain your bazillion wins, I don't think it is a smart idea as you are killing yourself in regular play by not having all those extra defenses. It just makes it that much easier for TH9 and now TH10 to prey on you.

If someone in your clan told you to do this, I'd simply say no.

All of this. It is a very interesting theory for the most dedicated of war clans. Terrible idea for anyone casual or not all about war.

Imo, it's a bad strategy because it makes you weak in matchmaking.

I think its a great idea for serious perma-war clans and players, or second accounts.

Saving full elix or loads of dark for troop and hero upgrades, with weak defences, is going to be extra tough.

9.5 concept is about transition from 9-10.gaining the necessary skills and experience to attack other th10s not about weaker opponents. I think the minimum requirements to be a th9.5 is level 56 royals,200 lava walls rest leggosand maxed th9 defenses .for th8.5 I have no idea because im not in a with th8s but it is very helpful philosophy in good war clan.dunno why so much hate for it because th9s are already attacking other th10s in wars whether in a mismatch or once we finish 3* all th9

.... Its done to get weaker opponents. That's the point. That's literally the only reason for it. Its fine to be for or against it but at least don't start trying to cover it up.

well at point u have to upgrade ur defenses.
it doesnt matter, u will weak at defending anything, TH8 can 3 star you.
As you can 2 star TH9.
it doesnt really matter which way u go, in the end u have to upgrade everything.

From my understanding, as long as you don't acquire xbows at th9 you are considered a th8.5. You should still be able to upgraded the other defences. But I could be misinformed.

The only reason I would countenance using the th8.5 strategy is if your war troops are underleveled for your th level.

When you first get to TH9 you need the critical Camps, spell facfory, AQ, CC. I maxed my dark barracks right away. Its a huge difference. That take awhile then go into the defense.
