Explain the trophy situation to me please

This just makes no sense at all to me and I keep trying to figure it. How does one loose more trophies than possibly winning?

Here's the scenario I just came across.

Me, I'm at a TH9. Maybe getting close to a midway 9. My armies are maxed.

While nexting this morn, I come across a lonely TH10. However, the base itself is nearly maxed defensively not counting walls.

Since I'm hunting trophies, I take the easy snipe.

This is what I don't understand. Clearly and heavily outmatched I would be, if I by some act of SC miracle got 100%, I would win 15 trophies.

However, if I were to lose the battle, I would lose 31 trophies.

How in the world does that even make sense?

Its based on how many trophies you guys have. If you could lose more than you can gain, that means you have more trophies than the defender.

I think it's also based on trophy ranges.


I've attacked TH8s who were in Silver I and myself in Gold I on a revenge (I wanted to get my trophies back), but I would've gained 0 trophies because of the range difference.

Oh yeah the OP might have more trophies.

Im in master two, and came across a guy in master three. His base was a little better than mine, but I only get13for a three star since he's lower in league/trophies. It all depends where you're ranked for trophies and where your opponent is

Try being in champ, I see 2-3 cup offers almost every spin, but if I lose, I lose 30+ cups. When I see 15 cup offer, it's like the clash gods have favored me for some reason.

The lost trophy amounts I never understood but from what I can tell the ones you gain depends on base strength & what type of army composition you are using. Ive used barch & came across 30 trophies on TownHall 8's & found a severely rushed 10 with barely 15. The ones with the lower trophy amounts tend to be easier.

The level of the base and defenses have no bearing on Trophy count, therefore your assumption that you should get more trophies from a tougher base is incorrect.

If you attack someone with a higher trophy count than you then your possible reward would be higher than your possible lost.

If you attack someone with a lower trophy count than you then your possible reward would be smaller than you possible lost.

If you attack someone with nearly the same trophy count then your possible reward would be the same as your possible lost.

It is that simple, nothing else factors in to the calculation of how many trophies you can earn on an attack.
